Might as well replace the R with Romance, really. I haven`t seen much Roleplaying in the latest Bioware games. Mostly just action with conversations that has zero effect on how the story goesends up.

Role-playing isn't about affecting the story. It's about defining a character.

That said, I wholeheartedly agree that there's too much focus on romance.

That's a very good point, OP. But the real question here is: what are your thoughts on yaoi?

I agree that there is far too much focus and obsession on these romances. So I support Bioware reducing the romances to one or two options that simply exist to troll the player. Broodmother, desire demon, and maybe a stone golem. Enjoy.

They need to put in more romance.

On a slightly more related note, though I would still like to know OP's answer, since it's something very important:

I don't see where OP is suddenly getting the idea that BioWare is going crazy with their romances. Is it because of all the romance threads? BW didn't force anyone to write them. Frankly, there are things in the Alistair thread that puts this entire forum to shame, the fandom being completely in love with the idea of romancing characters is nothing new.

MP is also optional content. But they're clearly spending a lot of time on it--time that detracts from other things.

Same for romance.

I've answered that before, but if you must know: the green cat leaps inside the mashed potatoes.

Also, I get the gist that the optional content is becoming a substitute for the core content.

I'm not sure I understand. Are you talking about the fans' "obsession" with the love interests? What do you suppose is "appropriate" obsession? Even if you don't enjoy the romances available, why do you think that the current options available take so much focus from the main story that they shouldn't be present at all?

Yes! The player must be able to scrog everything! Because its not like people play these games for other reasons.

I would agree that either the game should have it's romances integrated into the story - thereby requiring much more complexity and attention - or to consider doing away with them altogether.

@EntropicAngel: I strongly disagree with your statement. I very much attempt to affect the environment of the fantastic world my character is in. Though - it could be argued that I play pro-active characters and no reactive ones - so manipulating my environment would be the definition of every character I play.

My characters have never simply just absorbed the story and changed because of it (though changing because of story elements does occur of course)

If they removed romance, I would be so happy just for the sake of hearing the sh*tstorm in this forum.

Attempting to change the environment =/= actually doing so.

Attempting to change the environment is a definition of your character.

Whether it actually changes or not is irrelevant.

Watching that occur would be more fun than any such romance could ever hope to be. They'd probably lock down whole sections.

"They" would just blame EA for shackling Bioware with an anti-romance agenda.

I honestly don't think so If you link together every romance related conversation in DA2 it's around half an hours worth of dialogue in a game with hundred of hours worth.

You know some people will still do those.

LOL this is all too true! I don't think you would even need to be hit on by 3 of the 5 possible LI unless you chose to start it up in DA2. And Anders would only hit on you if you played the nice I suport mages and no of course your not a monster card. Izzy just like to get in with everyone. Doesn't mean your special. Well, unless your Hawke. XD

I for one love the romance aspect of these games! It's gaming meets romance novel and I mean this in the most flattering why guys! The smuts not heavy and it add a fun dynamic to the game. If you don't like it don't flirt. And it's a game! LOL don't get your panties in a tist over it. Just enjoy and whatever blows your skirt up people!
