Guess we'll wait and see. I've gotten a lot of use out of my ol' Xbox butI'd be willing to shell out $$$ for a new console if DA3 will be on it. I used to be a PC guy but now I just follow BW around (I bought the Xbox over the PS3 because ME and DA titles could play on both back then)

Guess I'll start saving now :P

I'm playing on the PC so it doesn;t really apply to me what does annoy me however is the delay in which I will get the game when it was initially forecasted for late nxt year.

Theoretically --- even then it's a good thing for you since common internet knowledge holds 'More Time = Better Game.' Which I consider is... likely true. God knows the shorter development period games I've played really felt partially unfinished.

As long as they figure out how to import PS3/360 saves into the next gen version I'm okay with it.

Would be great if they made it so you could import a ps3 save into the 720 game, or 360 saves into a ps4. Or either into the PC version. Or a PC version into either.

Also, if they have to wait to release it on next-gen consoles, could they/would they release the PC earlier? Are there really any marketing advantages to releasing PC and console versions at the same time? As a PC gamer, it'd seem pretty frustrating to see DA3 delayed due to console issues when we already get things like the dialogue wheel as a result of console mechanics.

Plus, releasing it on PC first would probably drum up enthusiasm and excitement for consoles.

@ TheBlackAdder13 (awesome name BTW, love that series), I too choose to remain skeptical about any rumours until the devs make official announcements come Spring. As a fan of DA who has been playing on the XBox 360 since Origins was released, as a guy who has enjoyed multiple playthroughs I want it to be easy to transfer my saves. I have nothing against the upcoming Gen of consoles, but I won't be buying one as soon as they are released for financial reasons. I want to be able to continue my adventures in The as as soon as DA III is released in NA on my 360. It would be a huge f--- you from EA/ BioWare to me (and likely other console gamers) if no current Gen versions were released.

The title says it all. Here's the link.

An EA Shanghai level designer who worked on a vertical slice of Dragon Age III earlier in the year states on his LinkedIn page
that the "Scope of the DAIII has been chaged [sic], which will target
next gen platform [sic] and will be postpone [sic] to 2014." The claim
of the delay is probably a misinterpretation of the rumors
of the RPG sequel's delays from fiscal 2013 (before March 31, 2013) to
fiscal 2014 (after that date), which was pegged to EA wanting to avoid
the rushed development criticisms that dogged Dragon Age II. However, those "development cycle" posits are seemingly not entirely accurate, as the designer says that EA wanted to refocus Dragon Age III from a current-generation title to a marquee next-generation RPG. Dragon Age III coming to next-generation platforms should not be a surprise to anyone, as EA tellingly excluded any specifics on platforms in the game's September announcement—a way of saying that the intended platforms have not yet been announced.

What do you think?

I tend to play DA on a console, so this mean's I'll have to either go with PC version's of DA, or upgrade to the next level of console. Either way I feel I'm losing out regarding DA.

On a related note. Seeing as DA3 and ME4 will share the same engine, I'm assuming both title's could be next gen console material.

I don't know. You've got a few assumptions there (like the game would be 'finished' for the PC but held up by consoles instead of having a release date pushed back and the whole game having a longer development time because of that).

As for drumming up enthusiasm by having it out on PC first... it didn't do Witcher 2 any favors. PC and 360.

Besides if DA3 word-of-mouth is bad then releasing it on anything first would hamstring their sells on other platforms. For safety concerns alone I'd suggest releasing simultaneously on all platforms.

But ideally I'd like to have a roaring fireplace; big screen tv; next gen console; nice glass of brandy and a big, fat....DA3 game.

Okay, that actually sounds pretty great and makes me want it to come out on the next-gen consoles.

Honestly, I'll get an xbox 720, or whatever it's called, but in the past I've always waited for the price to drop. I still haven't picked up the PS3 and switched to xbox because it was so expensive at release. (Consequently, I'm missing out on all the Naughty Dog goodness, which sucks, but I'll live) I suppose I could switch to PC for DA3, but I really prefer playing on consoles (don't yell at me, pc purists) and if I make that switch, I might have to stay there for all subsequent games. So I guess it depends on the save import system and the price point. Maybe it'll be released before the next consoles come out and I won't have to worry my pretty little head over it.

Its pretty much a foregone conclusion from the start that DA3 would be coming out for nextgen consoles. The question will be whether they support existing consoles at all or make DA3 exclusively for nextgen consoles and PC. If its actually being pushed into calendar 2014 (and not just fiscal 2014), it might be more likely they're exclusively supporting nextgen and not 360/PS3. Yet, EA has a track record for making cross generational games and they'd likely be leaving a lot of money on the table if they don't support a 360/PS3 version.

Can't this mean that, instead of focusing the game to be released in current gen, and have ports to the next, it will be the other way around?

Anyway, doesn't matter to me, PC player here.

Didn't they mention before they were working on new ways to transfer save data? If it was going to be on a new console then it would make sense as to why they were looking into that.

So doing something like Nintendo did for Zelda: Twilight Princess? I agree with what you said. I also think that if Sony does what they normally do and price their new system to cover the production of the first batch DA fans who play on PS3 will be getting burned if its exclusive to said new gen. Unlike the WiiU I believe the transition to the new gen will be a harder one than this previous one was.

Console issues aside I think it would be great if the game gets delayed and there's a longer development period to polish and pad it out. Take all the time you need.

Yes, they have on multiple occassions. That could be the little hint of them transitioning to the next gen. Kind of sneaky.Image IPB(Not in a bad that is. Just clever.)

With the new gen and increased development time they can easily forfill their promises on the scope and size of the game.

Next gen console costs are going to be a ****. If they come out in 2014 I really doubt I'll move off of the 360 to the next gen for a year... year and a half. Especially since the price tag will likely be 500-900 dollars. I just can't afford that kind of an investment. I've really enjoyed the lengthiness of this console generation because I well and truly got a huge bang for my buck.

Which... yeah. Means I'm going to have to miss out on DA3 for a good long time. ...or pick it up on PC. Which I don't know. My machine's a relic and barely works. (I use a notebook for internet purposes which, for obvious reasons, is not for gaming).

Either way I doubt I'll be grabbing DA3 on release.

...unless it releases on both next gen and current gen machines. I don't know if that's a good idea or not from a market perspective. It works out well for me, personally though.

Ugh, this. So much.
I had an Xbox 360 arcade for the longest time, and I "upgraded" to a 360 Slim last year due to harddrive limitations, and well, it was a good deal.

Unless, like you said, they plan to release DA:I on both current and next gen consoles, I anticipate feeling very sad on release day.

It hasn't been officially confirmed for PC yet. It almost certainly will come out for PC, of course, but you might get a long delay even so.

Um...They will likely release it the same time for all platforms. There is a such thing as DIGITAL DOWNLOADS you know. <_<

Someone should mention that to Rockstar then...

As much as i want this game as ASAP, I think the longer it takes bodes well for getting a better game. I always play games on PC cause buying a console seems like such a waste of money, when getting a computer does that and so much more. (my last console purchase was a PS2)

That holds true as long as its actually time in development and not just trying to peg down specs for next gen consoles which haven't even been built yet.

When the Xbox 360 was released, it managed to skimp by on other hardware by utilizing new multi-threaded processors.    Nice, but the problem is that programming to utilize multiple threads is far different than anything done before.

Which is why console games still seem to have "improved" over the life cycle of the Xbox as programmers became more proficient at utilizing the new hardware specs.   If something similar is done, the developers might spend a lot of time trying to optimize code rather than actually adding content or other polish that might be needed.

I'm fine with porting down from next gen to current gen. I'm a PC gamer as well as a console jockey, however my PC isn't exactly top of the line: I've got a respectable graphics card but a rather meh motherboard. However as I am the proud father of a one-year-old boy, I have other priorities financially than getting all the newest gaming toys... :)

What sucks for me is I win DA 1, and 2 on Xbox, and my account is f***ed up. But, I'm getting a shiny new gaming PC for the holidays, so...fate?
