Well, i've played enough to say that what he said is doable and not bad, everything depends on the playstyles, so people, the fact that you think something is wrong it doesn't mean you are right.

He might done some mistake, like any other human.

How is the builds not bad????? He reccomends a build "optimized for overload" then compleeteley skipping overload. How is that NOT bad? He tell s you to take 2 shotguns! Comeon!
He might be trying to help but bad help is often worse than no help. Its like giving advise on how to use a gun then showing the barrel pointing the wrong way. Bad advice is Bad.
And yes mistakes are made, but he should have double checked this before he posted it and made a fool of himself.

I challenge the naysayers to try the exact builds from this guide. If you can't solo with it, then you have no pedestal to stand on when critiquing the devs.

Just a mistake, maybe he got confused when say that he spec'd for power damage when in fact what TGI has is weapon damage, maybe ideas mixed in his head, it has happened to me more times that i can remember.
He tell s you to take 2 shotguns! Comeon!
He was alternating.

Just a mistake, maybe he got confused when say that he spec'd for power damage  maybe ideas mixed in his head, it's probably that he tried a different build before and mixed all the things, it has happened to me more times that i can remember, come on, if you ask me for a build of a character I will have to look most of the times because i respec characters too much, this could happen.

The thing is, he might not be very familiar with all the things of the game, even though he is a developer doesn't mean that he has to know the game enterely and maybe he's starting to play the game, at the begging lot of us make great mistakes that now are just stupid for us, but thouse ones are not obvious for a new player.

I was one of the ones that used to use AP ammo III on GPS or Graal

Build wise, yes it has problems of sentences contradicting each other BUT the weapon section is not a problem area. The weapons he placed are obviously recommended choices. If not, there would not be an acylote there as there is no way for you to take 3 weapons. Would be nice to have AR and SMG recommendations in there as well but otherwise there is no problem there

Have you even read the post? He never tells any of use to take 2 shotguns, he simply lists the 3 weapons he used throughout his solos, also the wraith is UR so listing the GPS as well is only helpful to people that don't have it.

And spec'ing cloak for overload is prolly just a mistake he made by mixing 2 different builds he used, heck he makes a note of that bonus power evo is good for overload, can you not for yourself then decide to not pick that evo if you spec out of overload?

I guess I assumed a dev who posts a strategy guide would do sufficient research and editing.

Others have already covered the numerous mistakes made in this post. Personally I find this an insult to the ME3 multiplayer community as a whole. A good number of BSN'ers could have made corrections before this was posted.

If it were me, I'd be embarrassed. Sharing his experience is one thing... giving players bad advice on builds, weapons, gear, etc...is quite another.

I think you are being quite harsh on the OP. Please bear in mind that the BSN community is composed of "fans".  Fans is short for fanatics may I remind you.  Devs are employees of EA, they go to work and spend most of their awake time working, NOT playing ME3 MP...  So... if you choose to elevate a Dev to "Ace Lone Wolf N7 Collector Reeper Cerebus Geth Grand Master Slayer" status based on their employment at BW.... Well... let's just say I think you have a preception problem that may not be based in reality.  Do not assume every employee of General Electric knows how to make jet engines...  See my point?

Leave it to BW to try to dictate what is the "proper/correct/only" way for someone to play the game.  Jeeesh aren't the "Fagnan Scales of Blind Justice" enough??? Image IPB

I'm quite appalled reading the first few replies that some of you just come and **** all over the developer's post then proceed to wipe your ass on it. Sure perhaps some of his evolution in Tact cloak is off and his choice of spec / kit may not agree with your choice but does that give you a pass to **** all over his post?

You speak of criticism where it is due, yet few even had the tact to write up proper criticism. If you're going to criticize 'for the sake of improvement' isn't it better to add in healthy dose of tact? Seems that most of the post reeks of arrogance rather than the prefaced facade of constructive criticism.

This.  I hope that the people who work for bioware who HAVE to post on these forums due to their job, get a really NICE paycheck. Mine would have to be to make it worth putting up with the crap that some people think appropriate.

It's stuff like this that makes people like Lucas say "Oh you want to be like that? OK. No more star wars. By the way, im selling everything to disney."  People make mistakes. If you bash them so hard, they wont have any desire to fix it.. I think its funny how so many people here think Bioware owes us something because we downloaded FREE MP content.

I dont remember seeing any contract when I purchased the game that says they have to do ANYTHING extra for it in the first place. There are consequences to every action. Remember that, when somebody pulls the plug on the team that gets paid to give us FREE stuff.

Understandable, and what I immediately thought when I saw warfighter gear 2. I know I used warfighter gear on my FQI who uses a Javelin a few times because it was the only gear I had that increased grenades.

Still, it would be nice if he could at least explain the whole " Bonus Power – for overload blasts" and then not taking Overload, cause that's really the only part about the guide that truly doesn't make sense. Everything else can be explained by a unmaxed manifest, personal preferences, or a level 19 character (in the GI's case).

Could it be he had an alternate build to include there and mixed them? (would fit in with the fact he listed two shotguns in that build)

Well the builds used by the dev are sub-optimal or even illogical. But as far as I can see he does not claim that it is a guide.  He is merely trying to share what he learned from his solo-runs. Since he is using a Warfigther Pack II (not level V), it is obvious that he does not have a rich manifest.

A great many points in that blog are still valid. But he could have arranged it better and done a proof read.

-Weilding two shotguns simultaneosly still confuses me

Listing two different shotguns tells me he used different weapons on different matches. Obviously, he could make that more clear, but that's my best guess at a logical explanation.

If that's the case, perhaps he's also accidentally mixed two different builds. Perhaps one had Overload and one did not, thus making some sense of the listed build. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but I'm hoping that the problem here is unclear writing rather than just straight up bad advice.

Its pure crap and i would have shot myself in shame if i wrote a "guide" where i tell to take bonus dmg for overload and then not speccing overload at all. Or telling people to bring 2 shotguns, where a person that have played 1 hour knows this is not possible.

No wonder they have balancing issues if its terds like that they base their knowlege upon.

Edit: And it doesent really matter if he mixed 2 builds by mistake, that just makes it more embarrassing.

WTF cares? Obviously you and the people are putting down a guy who makes more money than you. When ME4 comes out, I'm going to Email your mom and dad a message telling them not to buy yehs a game with your post copied and pasted along with it. IF you're 18+, I advice you to get some ****** or smoke some weed because MAN! You are taking this shiet way to seriously.

Damn offy's. Lmao

This thread is actually turning meaner, a lot of the early stuff, while critical, was at least in somewhat jovial good humor. Ribbing someone, you might call it.

Just fix your game, bioware.

I also stand by my points made earlier in my other thread about nerf threads / posts. Devs clearly don't have much clue to the game so stop giving them even worse ideas.

I'd like some more blog posts.
Like Jos could do an in depth analysis on the maps or give us a tips and tricks around the universe.
Or something like that.
I like that the devs are willing to talk more about the game they made ^^.

Edit: Seems like the lead designer likes the thrill of no shields @-@;
It's true that huge amounts of dmg can help in a solo but for getting used to the sheer amount of punishment more shields is recommended.

Still a subjective view from a dev was an interesting read.

I wonder if this is a test, a test to see how the community responds to a devs advice on solo'ing, and if we respond negatively (which it seems like we have) and rip into him (to an extent), they'll punish us further.

x_x

BSN is full of trolls , haters, immaturity, and overall just bad posters. The fact a BW dev is getting flamed for a blocg post on his experiance going for the lone wolf banner is just a new low.

This is a set of recommendations he's making to people, though, and the only thing people have really criticized is his build. It kind of deserves some criticism, though. Do you disagree?

his intro is

My hunt to complete the Solo Mastery challenge began with many failed
attempts. The prized “Lone Wolf” banner lets everyone know you’re a
skilled enough player to extract while playing completely alone on
Bronze difficulty 10 times, Silver 5 times, Gold twice, or Platinum
once.  Achieving this banner is very gratifying, and I learned a great
deal in the process that might help you obtain it, too,
if you haven’t
already. (And before you ask: there aren’t any BioWare cheats. I had to
complete the challenge fair and square just like you.)

Based on the statement i don't think its really advice but more of what he learned while doing it and maybe some people can use some of it to help them. Now do i think anything he did there was "ideal" absolutly not. But Ideal or not it worked. too many people get caught up on getting hte most out of every kit and layout. Sure he used 2 of the 3 most OP layouts for soloing (the 3rd being kroguard) but not eveyrone can volus platinum solo. I know i can't. were all limited by our skill level. The most skilled players can take a bad layout or bad DD and solo a platinum while mos tpeople can't do it with the best possible everything.

Yes in the process mistakes were made that don't make any sense. Like the bonus power evolution on TC but no overload. its a waste of 6 points. but in essence is the same as running a level 19 TGI speccing 5 into cloak. its not somehting that is game breaking by any means

Personally you know me (we have played some games together) and while i do give advice on "best possible builds" it doens't mean i use said builds all the time. I like to try different things out and mess aorund and have a good time while playing. I would never give a stupid or crazy build out as advice unless someone asks for one, but i have people give them to me to try out all the time. And i enjoy it.

There are lots more advice from more experianced players on the forums on builds then BW can possibly offer. cause there busy making the game and doing other stuff instead of dumping 1000 hours into ME3 MP like some people have. You cna't expect them to know as much even if it is their game. its like expecting someone who designed the interior of a ford mustang to know more anout its engine then someone who has over 1000 hours working on engines in their spare time out of fun.

Alot of people want to give BW crap for not being elite at a game they created. Instead as fans we should be happy that BW has so much pride in their product that they play it just becuase its fun and that they provide feedback of their experiances of playing it. not many devs do that. Too many people want to focus on the negatives of things on BSN and on life in general. I tend to focus on the positives.

thats just my .02 though

Beautiful post but I gotta call you out. You know you can solo with a Volus :wizard:

Awhile back I suggested to a BioWare dev they should recruit a talented community member to help test. This is very common in 'MMO' games for instance. But he did not seem keen on that idea. But like you just pointed out- hard to expect a BioWare dev to blow 1000+ hours on ME3 MP. They probably spent that much time trying to make it easily

lol platinum i doubt it. gold? i might give it a go ;)

I can't, my Warfighter gear is at level V, so that would give me an unfair advantage. Also, no matter how hard I try, I just can't get the hang of equipping both the Wraith and the Geth Plasma Shotgun along with the Acolyte.

I don't understand people who are bashing critics. It's a really mild one, as was mentioned before. If average poster had posted exact same builds and claimed he soloed gold&plat on BSN, he would have been absolutely slaughtered.

Some hypothetical replies:

"Learn2play noob."
"Go back to bronze, noob. You didn't solo even silver"
"Pics or it didn't happen."
"Your build is crap."
"GI and TGI require no skill."
Etc.

Hi everyone,

Firstly I would like to thank you all for the feedback; there were errors in the build section of the blog that will be corrected, sorry about that. By no means was this blog post meant to say that my builds or strategies are top tier or the best in anyway. This blog post was merely a mind share of what I learnt from trying to get the lone wolf banner. As developers on this game we are always amazed at the passion of our fans, and how much better at the game you are then us :}

I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, as I am not very active on the forums. I started on ME2 working with a very small team. Our goal was revamping the combat and gameplay systems for ME2. This worked carried onto ME3. Myself, Eric Fagnan and our small team worked extensively on single player and multiplayer gameplay. All the kits, weapons, powers, mods etc. were all designed in house by our gameplay team. We have also worked on each multiplayer DLC to date, designing the new kits and weapons. Most recently I worked on the Turian Havoc and Ghost, hence my choice for Solo :} while Eric designed the Volus Engineer and Adept.

We are extremely passionate about the Multiplayer component of Mass Effect 3, and are so happy and proud at how passionate the community is as well.

Here is my gamer tag so you can see I actually play and love the game as much as you do :}

People solo plat with non-infiltrator classes, heck, even with volus. Not with the most OP classes in the game.
