I hear that Bioware started on the next DLC for after RtO.

"Dragon Age: Origins - Battle at Bioware"

Introduces new weapons: The bloodied "pitchfork" and the purging flames of the "torch"

A new villainous Clan has sprung in the lands of Ferelden, making faulty products, pushing back dates on new merchandise and taking the money from the poor in exchange for buggy products.

Now it is up to you to take the battle to the HQ of the Bioware clan, fight your way through the moderators whom have horrible communication skills and claim your prize!

The prize of knowing that nothing was accomplished and you just spent 5 dollars for 10 minutes of new gameplay!"

There are alot of things that can go wrong in software and game development. A LOT! But this is making the DLC team look pretty bad. I mean, they're separate from the main team... the game has been done for months before release, one DLC is finished to coincide with release... now 2 months after release they can't get what's supposed to be an hour's worth of content working. It may have nothing to do with the dev team and everything to do with red tape and certifications and bloo blaa, but especially since we don't know the reason... it just looks BAD.

And doesn't really bode well for future DLC.

if i were you guys i'd shut it. BioWare is one of the last developers who actually give a crap about thier PC fanbase...unlike the douchness that EPIC and Bungie have become...

Since when have EPIC and Bungie ever been PC developers?!

This doesn't reflect on Bioware as a whole, either. Or, at least, not in my mind. Mass Effect 2 and, God willing, SWTOR will both be stellar games - you can almost put money on it. Bioware are a great games studio who do exceptional work, but historically they haven't had such a good run with DLC. Expansions, yes, but not DLC.

It's alright, relax. Bioware are still Bioware - but watching people cry foul is pretty funny.

As I said earlier, did you seriously expect it to be released midnight european time?

I can quite honestly say that I did not expect the nigh-comical level of unprofessionalism I just saw evidenced by this company, yes.

I don't even really care about the DLC that much, by all accounts it's going to be even less content-filled than Warden's Keep, and I'm not saying that as a slight on WK.  Mostly I'm loving the "This means that they really care about the bugs and that there will be no bugs, yay I support!" responses.  The fact that there are even "bugs" to be tweaked at this late in the game is, again, evidence that they knew long before the night prior to release (how's that?), maybe even at the time the date was set, that they weren't going to get it out on time.

I have played this game on release day:

That's why I will always support delaying a game over rushing a buggy release.

Your main point is that they knew before today that it had to be delayed. Perhaps that is true, but here is what I think.

Yesterday they thought maybe we will have to delay, but it's not sure yet, there's still a chance we can fix everything on time. So they still try to meet the deadline anyway.  In the end they failed, but are still honest enough to delay the product than to sell something sub-par and patch it up later.

Anyway, this is all speculation on my part, we will know the truth of the matter later. Perhaps this is another EA attempt at a simultaneous release on all platforms? Now that would be intolerable to me.

Fine with me; Divinity 2 will arrive tomorrow (yay for early shipments on pre-orders) so I'll be wrapped up in that for awhile.

Oh for f sake. Look there are thousands of other problems that could have come up OUTSIDE of the development cycle. EA/Bioware uses content delivery provider, Akamai, to accelerate their web services. They could have screwed the pooch getting the content to their edge servers. Microsoft could have screwed the pooch getting it up and cooking on xbox live. Sony could have screwed the pooch pushing it over their live service. And when you start involving other companies any press that makes your partners look bad will not get posted publicly on the forums. Try considering the fact that every game bioware has put out has turned to gold I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that this is not related to the development cycle and far more likely a problem with delivery.

Well, as much as I don't want to derail the thread, one game by Bungie and a Game Engine by EPIC does not = PC developer, especially as they are now. I certainly don't consider EPIC or Bungie as PC developers, not in the same way I'd consider Bioware, anyway. You're pushing sh!t uphill with that argument.

The talk about bugs found the last minutes is just bs, EA has huge testing facilities in many countries, and especially at this time they have a lot of QA resources available. Bioware knows about almost all the bugs that are discussed in this forums, long before we report them.

It may also be something like they got a beta version of patch 1.03 (for PC) and were testing the DLC for compatibility and it didn't work properly with that patch version. They probably didn't have a full staff in today either due to the weather.

Yeah BioWare is becoming increasingly good at pretending that the things they promised to deliver no longer exist. It may be weeks before they ever man up to tell us a word that acknowledges the existence of RtO again. Or maybe they will simply never acknowledge it again like they did with Pinnacle Station. Annoucements of announcements followed by nothing but silence and they never acknowledged the DLC even after it released.

Eh, I didn't even know that this DLC existed until say, five minutes before it was delayed. I have no reason to be upset, unlike some of you. Whatever the reason for the delay, be patient. Your content will come and we shall all rejoice. And then we will revel in our glory as things are blown up in Mass Effect 2 at the end of the month.

This is the first Bioware game I have ever bought or played, and for me this does reflect on the whole company. As I'm sure it does for others who have this as their first experience with Bioware. Lesson learned though. They won't be getting any more money out of me for quite awhile, and as much as I want to play RTO I'm going to have to think pretty hard about whether I am willing to reward a company that behaves as this one has.

Fortunately I bought points for the XBOX and can use those for anything. I'll wait a year or two til the DLC is all released and then buy it if I still want to play the game. The game itself I love, but so far they've shown themselves to have a very poor track record for releasing things when they say they will and for keeping customers informed when they can't release things on time.

A short "Nope, not today. Can't tell you why." doesn't cut it when it comes to keeping customers informed, expecially not the day before release, and there's no way they didn't know more than 6 hours before release day that it wasn't going to happen. Just like there was no way they didn't know before going on vacation that "this holiday season" meant after the holidays were over.

edit: broke up the paragraph to avoid the dreaded "wall of text"

I wasn't about to purchase it at this time, but it seems strange that the news comes just when it was about to show. I mean, sure, things can go wrong, but generally you'll know about delays a bit before release? And it's not as if they're having to package the thing as it's pure dlc.

I'll be interested to hear what went wrong.

bungie sure, not so much a pc dev, but epic? come on their biggest series till GoW was Unreal...which kicked major arse on PC. the point i was trying to make however was that BioWare deserve a friggin medal, an award show...hell give 'em a parade for the games they gave us and for the fact that they didn't sellout to evil such as microsoft and the like.

delaying something instantly means you're gonna be catching a lot of crap from ppl...but still...ppl need to recognize.

Well the problem is all of us knew about the end of November when it was slanted for "this holliday season" but was delayed. Then they said January 5th, and it is delayed again. I agree with you, patience is important, but you are asking people to have patience, who have been patient for a month.
