where is the information about the DLC being delayed other than the fact that it hasn't arrived yet?
EDIT- oh, first post...

Fine with me; Divinity 2 will arrive tomorrow (yay for early shipments on pre-orders) so I'll be wrapped up in that for awhile.

Seconded.  Though my plans for if they were out of copies of Divinity 2 for PC are kind of shattered (I would've bought the DLC in that case).  I guess now if they're out, I'll buy The Stolen Throne and The Calling, but that means I will have to wait to get them shipped before enjoying.  That's what I intended to do prior to playing the Divinity 2 demo, but, y'know, this is why I shouldn't play demos (and now I want to play the previous two Divinity games as well!).  At least I'll hopefully be ready to buy the Ostagar DLC when it comes out now (along with Warden's Keep, which I still don't have).

I really wish that they'd told us why they called the delay and given us some kind of range of time to expect the game to actually be out.  I understand why people are so upset, seeing as it's the day before release for those of us on the American continents--and was the day of release for the fine European folk (and maybe the Australians too?).  Still, better that they delay it with any bugs or exploits that they ran across patched, than that they toss it to us and it's a mess.  I think if this were a joke, they'd already have told us by now, but what do I know?  I do however think people are overreacting.  I know we were all looking forward to this new add-on, but at the same time, it's just a game.  There are probably other things you can go spend some cash on until it releases, right?  Like junk food, or a book, or renting a movie...

Monday (4th of January 2010) was the first day most people from Sony/Microsoft/EA/Bioware got back to work - if the content is ready - I doubt it will take more than a handful of business days to resolve?

thanks, I will be waiting!

No no no its delayed.
If it wasn't delayed that would be my guess on the release time.

This is what happens when an EA comes in and demands everything be multiplatform to increase the profits.

I say the most plausible reason the DLC got delayed was because Sony pushed for it to wait until they released it. I'm not too happy that they had to wait for to release (or why it was later to begin with) but PC users have to put up with worse, I suppose. My point is, if they do all come out at the same time, I believe the fingers can be pointed towards Sony on this one.

Hopefully its some technical issue with delivering it, and not something broken with the dlc itself. If its the dlc, its going to be another long wait going through Microsoft again.

"Well, as much as I don't want to derail the thread, one game by Bungie and a Game Engine by EPIC does not = PC developer, especially as they are now. I certainly don't consider EPIC or Bungie as PC developers, not in the same way I'd consider Bioware, anyway. You're pushing sh!t uphill with that argument."

Also not to derail the thread but EPIC started out as a PC developer. Unreal which basically made EPIC what it is was a pc only game and they basically developed for the pc only till Gears and the latest Unreal Tourney.....doh PapaPataters beat me too it, rofl. <_<

Eh, I didn't even know that this DLC existed until say, five minutes before it was delayed. I have no reason to be upset, unlike some of you. Whatever the reason for the delay, be patient. Your content will come and we shall all rejoice. And then we will revel in our glory as things are blown up in Mass Effect 2 at the end of the month.

Well the problem is all of us knew about the end of November when it was slanted for "this holliday season" but was delayed. Then they said January 5th, and it is delayed again. I agree with you, patience is important, but you are asking people to have patience, who have been patient for a month.

My apologies to those who have been waiting. **** happens, and it would be nice if Bioware told its fanbase what would require such a delay the night before release rather than offer a sentence for an explanation. Seeing as we all have to wait anyway, why don't you take some time for yourself? Go outside, throw a barbecue or win the Superbowl? Do something productive! Huzzah!  :o

Or maybe they will simply never acknowledge it again like they did with Pinnacle Station. Annoucements of announcements followed by nothing but silence and they never acknowledged the DLC even after it released.

I don't blame them for not talking about it -- it was pure rubbish that they contracted a 3rd party developer to make for them.

They talked about their big DLC plans for quite some time... and then released a handful of combat scenarios 2 years later. I wouldn't talk about it either if I were them. How embarassing to have that garbage associated with their universally lauded game.

So i guess you have never seen the various interviews of companies talking about the challenges and difficulties going multiplatform???

It causes issues, delays, annoyed fan bases.. one platform feeling shortchanged by the other etc...

Sometimes it shouldnt be just about the money for crying out loud

We’re sorry but the planned Return to Ostagar downloadable content scheduled to launch on January 5th has been delayed for all platforms.

And this, people, is the reason why you never, never, should pre-order any game nor buy any points for DLC before the content is actually released.

Your main point is that they knew before today that it had to be delayed. Perhaps that is true, but here is what I think.

Yesterday they thought maybe we will have to delay, but it's not sure yet, there's still a chance we can fix everything on time. So they still try to meet the deadline anyway.  In the end they failed, but are still honest enough to delay the product than to sell something sub-par and patch it up later.

Anyway, this is all speculation on my part, we will know the truth of the matter later. Perhaps this is another EA attempt at a simultaneous release on all platforms? Now that would be intolerable to me.

I don't know how to make it any clearer than the analogy I'd made: EA and Bioware are not, or should not be, game arts students cramming in a midterm assignment hoping to make the grade.  They are a professional company.  The product should have been "ready for shipping" before release date.  It definitely should have been playtested before now.  And lest we forget, they set the January 5th date themselves, and not even so long ago!  No one forced that date on them.  To announce a release date and then announce a delay mere hours before that date is staggeringly amateurish.  We're talking "a lot of someones better have been fired" levels of amateurish. There's really nothing else to it. "It's just a game." It is a product and a business like any other, except that in no other medium would this ever be acceptable  We all know it wouldn't fly in your job, or in mine, or in anyone else's.

Then you don't state that something is to be released on a given date.  You wait till all versions are ready to be released then give a date for that release.  COMMON FRAKIN' SENSE!

From now on, when Bioware and EA give a release date for something I am going to assume that they are lying.

I'm aware of EPIC's Unreal. You'd have to have been living under a rock for the last 15 years not to be aware of it; what I mean is I don't think of EPIC aren't PC exclusive developers now, and they haven't been for a while. Then again, nor have Bioware. Actually, the more you look at both companies, the more they do seem similar. Interesting. I think all developers head down the console path eventually.

That's where the money is, and maybe this is a problem with one of the consoles *cough* Sony *cough*. Maybe Bioware/EA have been given the memo not to release unless it's done on -all- platforms? That would account for a delay. Or maybe it's something else entirely. What ever the reason, Chris wasn't told and therefore we weren't told either.
