I didn't pre-order Mass Effect 2 an I'm not pre-ordering Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening.  Until someone tells what the **** is going on with RTO.  I really think this is the best RPG for the ever, but enough is enough, you guys(Bioware) annouced this  !!!! 6 WEEKS AGO !!!! .  With all the man hours Bioware has invested, you would think it was finish by now.

Bioware Moderater's wrote...

"Since you're so concerned about costs of production:
1) How many hours of programmer time do you think this took to create.
2) How many hours of voice over actor time to do you think this took to create.
3) How many hours of artist time do you think this took to create.
4) How many hours of writer time do think this took to create.
5) How many hours of programmer and artist time do you think the whole DLC mechanism took to create, and what proportion of that investment needs to be recouped by this particular DLC (that investment has to be recouped over multiple DLCs, since it's so large).
6) How much do you think (on average) a programmer, writer, artist and voice actor gets paid per hour?
7) What percentage Return On Investment is required to make this a profitable and appropriate use of their talented staff.

That gives you the amount of revenue they need to earn in order to justify doing this.

The vast majority of the cost base is "Fixed", the creative costs. That's the same for both full games and DLC.
That fixed cost must be recouped by estimating the number of sales and
setting a price point that will bring in enough revenue to cover the
cost and provide acceptable levels of return on invement.

The final question is how many copies of Return to Ostagar do you guess they will sell at each price point (ie, how elastic is the demand curve). Keep in mind that DLC only sells a fraction of the volume of the main game. That's the reason for the $ per hour discrepency between DLC and full games, full games have a much larger audience and sell a much larger volume of copies.

If every person who bought DAO was absolutely definitely going to buy the DLC, then they could afford to release it at a cheaper price, at a similar dollar per hour ratio. But, that isn't going to happen. What proportion of the DAO customer base do you think will buy this DLC? If 20% of the customer base buy it, that means that the dollar per hour ratio might need to be five times higher than the ratio of the full game.
Happy New Year, everyone! Thanks for your patience over the holiday season and I'm sorry we weren't able to get Return to Ostagar out to you on the timelines we had originally hoped. As noted in the press release and on the Return to Ostagar product page, the PC and X360 versions of this new DLC will launch tomorrow, with PS3 to follow at a later date (we'll announce it once we've confirmed the details).

I take responsibility for any missteps that we've made in communicating the specifics of this launch and it's on my list of New Year's resolutions to do better in 2010. =o) In particular, I'll narrow my focus to discussing the content itself, rather than release dates and price points, which are outside of my control and far too subject to change without my direct involvement. For those sorts of details, you'll just have to wait for the press releases.

At any rate, thanks so much for continuing to play Dragon Age and for being a part of the BioWare community. For those of you playing Return to Ostagar tomorrow, have fun! I look forward to hearing your responses. In the meantime, the team and I will be buckling down and developing more content for all of you to play. We're having fun and are in this one for the long haul. =o)

All the best in 2010!"

You guys are so selfish. You act as if Bioware has to give you anything. Suppose they were like Bungie and kept exclusive DLC to themselves? What would you do? Complain like your doing now? At least they're trying to keep the fans pleased - but they're people to. Stop acting like a bunch of spoiled kids and just wait for the DLC to be released - thats ALL you can do.

some ppl have paid for this on the promise of it being releaseed on the 5 so yea they at least own an explantion

WRONG!
We paid for points... not DLC lol...
you paid allready? they gave you points...
now i know why they do that...
...they owe us nothing... we got points... just nothing to spend them on.....:wizard:

I have to say that you would be right.  Not all of us are complaining though.

Some of us would just like something out of it.  Some information, some kind of compensation (especially since some of us spent money specifically for this DLC), etc...

I hate complaining and I am not saying that i don't (because i am human).  But, i don't think that those of us that are trying to have a general conversation/trying to find out what is going (this is a forum, after all)  appreciate being called a bunch of spoiled kids.  I am waiting like everyone else.  Most of us are being patient and not wanting to cut ourselves over this (sorry to point that out, whomever posted that, whether serious or not).

So, i personally would appreciate that you keep the name calling to a minimum.  Yes, i am no moderator.  But i do think that was a little abrasive, Ejon.

Ok, just on the off chance, this issue has F*** all to do with Bioware, and EVERYTHING to do with EA(EvilArts), would that get you people off Biowares' "back"????

It couldn't possibly be from a Server at EA causing a software meltdown,...........NO, that just doesn't ever happen!!!!!!

I'm beginning to suspect Return to Ostagar never existed....So, would that mean that Bioware is nonexistently working on a nonexistent project?

.....I still hate Chris.

Waah! I am disappointed, I had a cr*p day at work and relaxing with a glass of wine while killing stuff sounded like just the thing to make it better. Ah well, I can live with the disappointment, provided it comes out sooner rather than later and runs smoothly!

Now the question is do I take my alt through the Deep Roads, or do I finally start my first playthrough of Vampire: Bloodlines...

15 hours (roughly) after this began, we got a response. It may have been swiftly buried.

To everybody saying "You guys are selfish", "Bioware are people too", "Stop going on the internet because it is contributing to global worming!..........(wait that was pointless)":

People are only trying to make the most out of a situation, having fun on the forums by laughing over the delay is better than us cutting our wrists eh? Well....if your into morrigan then maybe your that kinda person but....ya know...

So stop posting anti-hate, its annoying and nobody is gunna reward you for "saving" Bioware from the evil forumers who just happen to be able to swoop down upon them........

_______

To those people -20 dislike

To the people who are having fun +20 :)

I would have no problem with them keeping DLC for them selves. And I hardly call Flaming Recon DLC, you do know it’s on the game disk?
What Bungie does not do however is say DLC will be put out today, and than put it out three weeks from the deadline with no excuse. They are very good at updating people unless something is in the wood works that they can not talk about. Sure they have there problems, but BioWare, should hop on the B.NET once and blue moon to see how Bungie, keeps info pretty steady.

And like the guy said some of us have paid for something that was promised to us today, in one way or another. We deserve to know why they took our money and did not deliver.

I mean I went and put $40 on Awakening, can I expect the release date on that to be moved back?

And than what I’m out 40 bucks?

Until such a time Bioware and EA decide to give me what I paid for?

Almost 200 pages. Holy hell. This thread will be bigger than the original RtO thread; and that was beyond a joke.

Bioware, what have you done?

Ageed and well said.  Still, it was a little uncalled for.  Announce a due date then delay the due date?

The head-honchos at EA/Bioware have said that it would not make the fans/gamers happy I am sure.  Get it working before it gets out may have been somethiing that came out.  Maybe it was a server failure.  We are unsure of this.

As before though, some information would be nice.  Are they testing again?  How long of a delay?  That would be some nice, and well deserved, information.  Especially considering that we paid them (some of us over 80$ or more) for this PLUS the points for purchasing DLC from Bioware.

I feel that the points that we purchased (whether 400, 1600, etc...) was to pay for the DLC.  They provide a service, the DLC goes toward that service. Usually you get refunds for that kind of thing.  Am i wrong?

Precisely the reason why I will not be pre-ordering Awakening.

Sorry to hear about the delay, hope the end product is good when it comes.
