That is no excuse.  If they were that stretched thin then they shouldn't have given a date in the first place.

Maybe they have been applying the finishing touch on RoT today, and the final tests showed that it wasn't ready, so they delay it. I think it was only today, at 5 PM Edmonton time that they decided to postpone the release.

Maybe, but why don't they just tell us the reason?

That is what is annoying me, the lack of communication from them, give me a good reason and I will be fine with the news. But just to give a little message a few hours before it was supposed to drop and no reasonw hy, is just rude to the fans

That and this thing ----> it's just icing to the cake

It's pretty obvious that we all know that the developers, writers, designers, PRs have families to go back to and we all perfectly know that holidays are just finished, but point it: when you set a release date so precise (January 5th - I never voiced my disappointment when the r.d. was 'Holiday Season', or maybe once), it is good to stick with it or, at least, not announce the delay on the day of the launch. This sounds really unprofessional...

... and this is way, knowing Bioware and their outstanding resume, I'm wishing it's just a joke on us hard-core fans of the game

Unless I see a second post from Chris confirming that he was not joking, I can't believe it. Not on the day of the release. So I will patiently await till whatever time should be in Canada for the download to presumably be there, and then... Well, come on: I'll say it again, this can't be true!

Yeah, there's alot of fishy stuff going on here that screams "EXTREMELYEARLYAPRILFOOLS" to me.

We haven't gotten a reason WHY it was delayed, just that it supposedly was. He wasn't made a follow-up post confirming it really was delayed, and he's had plenty of time to do that. The Release date was tomorrow, or today, depending on where you're at on Earth. Why would they wait till the last minute and pull a stunt like this on something that was already delayed once before?

Just doesn't seem professional to me....and they're supposed to be a professional company.

Sure, it could be that they just found a rather bad bug and had to delay it, but why not tell us it was delayed due to a bug? Why keep everyone in the dark about why?

There's way too many questions that need answers here.

You are totally right about that.  I am going to call my boss tomorrow at about 7:00AM and tell him that I didn't finish the paperwork for the merger meeting tomorrow at 8:00. Because the holidays just got over.   He will be just fine with that I am sure.

That or I will get a lot more time to be playing video games.

It's the fact that they don't give a reason for the delay that bothers me. Also I would figure that they would of known the reason for this delay for a few days at least. It's just a few hours before it's supposed to be released. This is not good business sence on Biowares part for giving no reason for the delay.

Give us a reason!

Well, it would be nice for some ETA. I've been waiting for the DLC to get a new game going but I'm starting to get a tad anxious and I'm curious to know if I'd have the game beat a half dozen times before the DLC comes out.

I actually laughed out loud.

I’ve been over Return to Ostagar for weeks now, so a little delay isn’t something that phases me, really. With all of the whinging that has surrounded this DLC, this is just the icing on the cake. Hilarious. This thread is going to be awesome. Well played, Bioware. Well played.

Just noticed the DLC team has been asleep in a closet for the last two months or something? I'm pretty sure they entered hibernation halfway through making Warden's Keep.

This is not acceptable, its their job not the other way around. You don't bring your family to work and make excuses about it. People at CD Projekt Red posted pictures of themselves with droopy faces and almost insane appearances to show their commitment in the making of The Witcher and subsequent modification efforts but Bioware with a DLC can't show their stuff? This is not an expansion or a stand alone game anymore its a DLCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC!

So when I first read it I was kind of laughing, but I am a little upset now.

Originally it was slated Holliday Season, that came and went with no real news. Then they gave an actual date "January 5th" they put it all over their website, people got their hopes up.

Then what, six, eight HOURS BEFORE RELEASE DATE, a representative comes on here and says "sorry guys, it's not ready". But no reason. I always expect delays for online gaming stuff, but it has now been about a month, with no real reason.

Really? Hours before release, saying it's not ready, that is very un-fit for a company of Bioware's size. I can understand the content needing to be polished, but the way they just handled it is very bad.

Calm down everyone! They said they were going to release it during the Christmas Holidays and by jove, they shall!

Seriously, unfortunate news but still can't wait for the DLC and am looking forward to playing it. On a more optimistic note, the delay was almost worth it after seeing this thread. I swear, it's as if some of you were just waiting for this news so that you could pounce with your pictures and jokes. Definitely brought me a smile.

I am as eager as you are to find out the true reason behind this delay, but for now all I can do is guess.

I think they might be preparing an official press release and will announce the reason tomorrow. Business public relations work like official White House spokespersons I think, meaning that:

-They have to decide what bit of info they want to share with the public, they aren't going to tell us all the details. For example, if the true problem is: game crashes on final boss for ATi cards, they aren't going to divulge that.
-Carefully word everything properly

And that takes time.

I agree with a lot of the posts. Despite many of us being disappointed with a delay, surely it's bad form to turn around on the *day of release* and say it's being delayed? A topic done much earlier stating possible delays (so, let's just use DLC hosting servers going down unexpectedly as a reason) should have been done.

We had one of the other BioWare guys in the other topic say it's out today, and that was yesterday. Not overly impressed, to be honest. I'm still going to buy it, yes, as it's a late christmas present from an aunt.

Let's look at what we got:

The game itself is already glitched and buggy as it is. In a lot of cut-screens, the animation is botchy and poorly done, the ground is missing from 2 scenes that I can remember, and, for me, my stats aren't even uploaded properly on this site like it should be.

Yet they keep delaying the RtO DLC? If it's to make a better version of it, then it's laughable, cuz the entire game itself has problems. So, what's the real reason?

Problems releasing it over the consoles?

Sony/Microsoft refusing to let it release?

Giant flesh-eating Shrieks came and ate the employees?

I mean, c'mon. This is a highly laughable situation.

Hilarious.  Hilariously insulting.  You had to have known the product was going to be pushed back before the day of the release, and you wait until now to tell everyone that you can't actually tell anyone anything yet.

Maybe they have been applying the finishing touch on RoT today, and the final tests showed that it wasn't ready, so they delay it. I think it was only today, at 5 PM Edmonton time that they decided to postpone the release.

You really think a bunch of programmers and testers were diligently hammering away at tiny little touches for this project on its -- let me reiterate this yet again just to make the point -- date of release?  And then the second they discovered the shocking flaw that would surely render the product all but unplayable, they would send their on-hand "community coordinator" straight to the forums to inform us of their sudden but tragic postponement?  Seriously?  Don't kid yourself, and I say that in the least confrontational way possible.

The idea that anyone would even be playtesting a product on its date of release (can't get over italicizing that enough), even disregarding the improbability and ludicrosy of the idea, is pretty much proof positive that they knew they wouldn't be able to get it out on time long before the fact.  This isn't a first-year gaming college student's midterm project, this is a professional company!
