Really wish we could get a dev on this issue. Pretty much renders fourth faction unplayable :/.
I asked Bryan about this several weeks ago. He said they were aware of this issue and were looking into it. I'm guessing it won't be fixed until the next patch though.
And yes, collectors on gold or above is a ticking time bomb. Most of the time I join a random lobby and I see they set it to collectors I'll leave for this reason alone. I've had a hard freeze about 10 seconds to go on extraction before - so annoying.

In my free time I've been testing the conditions under which this issue seems to accure. It's something that is relatively exclusive to Gold and Platinum as far as I can tell. I've never had it happen on Bronze and only once on Silver.
Certain maps (Goddess, Condor, Giant and any Hazard map from my expierence) are the most troublesome when dealing with Collectors. The host will start to see frame rate drops before the game actually freezes. Usually they are most noticable on Objective Waves.
The more people playing in the lobby the greater chance the game will lockup. The game locks up for everyone as well, which is strange in my opinion, because the only other online MP game I've had which locks up time to time is Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, and when it does it's only a single person who locks up, never the whole squad.
Thanks for testing and trying to narrow the conditions. This is the case for me as well. I'd say the pattern for me is on objective waves as well and it does start the frame rate drop prior to the crash.
Most of my teammates will begin asking... " is it getting laggy for you guys?"

Thanks for your observations! I would like to add London and Dagger to the list of maps it happened (to me). Both of those were wave 10 hacking objective occurences.
Wave 10 hackings on gold are definitely a very hectic, busy events with lots of enemies and players crowding a small space with many shots and powers fired at the same time.
I did not know that it locks up everybody at the same time, it always happened to me in PUGs and I had to shutdown + reboot the ps3, so I never talked to the same players afterwards to find out.

Terrible game from us, even though the remaining 3 got full extraction - but the inconsistencies with just about every part of the faction show themselves glaringly in the video.
Gold+ Collectors or even worse Gold+ Collectors on a Hazard map will make your PS3 melt.

First time was Silver/Normal Dagger/Collectors. I was a Ghost, hosting a full room. Wave 10, pizza delivery. I grabbed the second pizza, started walking backwards toward the LZ, got shot with a seeker swarm animation on my body and my power hub symbols... with all that going on, as soon as the blue outline of the LZ came on my screen, I hard-froze. By the time I rebooted and my friend re-invited me, he said one of the PUGs disappeared when I did, but the other PUG seemed fine. So, sounds like my freeze froze one other person in the room, but the other two were fine other than having to re-start Wave 10 with just the two of them.
Other time it happened was Silver/Normal Reactor/Cerberus. I was working on Volus extractions and had my adept with the three biotic orbs circling my body. It was extraction, last few seconds, we're all in the LZ, I hit Shield Boost at the same time a grenade exploded somewhere, and hard froze at 0:01 seconds left to extract. Wished I'd gotten a picture of that, but I was too ragey. However, when I checked N7 HQ afterwards, it still credited my Volus with extraction and gave me the money. No idea if the other were affected, as it was a random PUG.
So, both times it happened when a) a lot of stuff was happening at once on screen and

Really?? I wasn't aware this issue got a "we're looking into it" yet. Well, I suppose that's a start...

That is unusual, since all of my freezes in the last month (5 or 6) are on collectors gold.

Crazy, crazy suggestion, but try lowering the brightness. I'm on PC, not PS3, but I was getting CTDs and even unexpected reboots (possibly BSODs) after the collectors came out... I'm still stress testing this but I haven't had a crash in a while, even after playing Collectors for hours straight or hosting hazard glacier, the two things I thought were most likely culprits.

Hm. It might just be a coincidence but I haven't gotten a freeze since I lowered the brightness down to -2. I remember a while back I did to make Hunter Mode more tolerable. It never really occurred to me until you mentioned it that I haven't had a freeze up since then. Again though this could just be a coincidence because I never choose to fight Collectors and only do so when they turn up as the Unknown enemy.

y be such a tool. Happens on Xbox and PC, maybe not as frequently, but It happens all the same.
Anyway, I've seen it happen on silver too just takes a few more games.
Maps that seem to speed up the memory leak for me
all hazard maps
jade
goddess
condor
london
hydra
giant

Amazingly, it works!
I changed my setting to -2 and then played 3 collector gold games in a row and no crash.
Now, that I see the correlation of brightness setting and crash probability I also understand why I had it so rough, while others experienced it less often: my setting was not the default 0, but +4.
Thanks for the fix, Dunvi!

Hard freezing on Hazards and random maps (London inparticular) since the major patch also occurs quite often, just not as often as with the Collector faction.
I wish I could figure out the cause(s) already!

90% certain it's a memory leak issue, given its similarity to past memory leak problems in the game. Unfortunately, I don't think the player has much control over it, except that resetting your console between matches and avoiding certain maps might help. Only real way to prevent is to avoid playing Collectors. Although, some people have reported having this issue vs. other factions. I've personally only seen it vs. the Collectors.
