One of the reasons I really loved ME3 was the fantastic soundtrack. It drew me into the moment and perfectly explored both the harrowing heights of epic victory and the solemn tragedy of defeat. So when I read that a new Mass Effect game was indeed in developement, I started thinking about potential composers for the new soundtrack. I came up with some suggestions of composers whose take on the ME style of music I would be interested in hearing (which I will list bellow along with some examples of their music), but I'd love to read some other suggestions.

My Suggestions:

1. Jesper Kyd:
The composer behind some of my favourite music period, Jesper's work includes the Assassin's Creed series (with the exception of AC3), the Hitman series, and most recently Darksiders 2 and Borderlands 2, among many others. What I most like about him is how layered and genre-bending his work is. He so often defies your expectations and creates some truly beautiful soundscapes.

Recommended:  The Corruption - Darksiders 2 Soundtrack; Earth - Assassin's Creed 2 Soundtrack; Desmond Miles - AC Brotherhood Soundtrack

2. Lorne Balfe:
Although he is probably best known for his work on film soundtracks, his tracks on the Assassin's Creed Revelations totally convinced me not only of his talent, but also that he could do great things given the opportunity with a Mass Effect game. What I've heard of his latest work on the AC3 soundtrack is also really great.

Recommended: The Revelation - AC Revelations Soundtrack; Labored and Lost - AC Revelations Soundtrack; Epilogue - Crysis 2 Soundtrack; Connor's Story - AC3 Soundtrack

3. Michael McCann
So this guy has probably already gotten some love on these forums and for good reason. His dark and cool electronic soundtrack for Deus Ex: Human Revolution really brought that universe to life and out of the three, his music has the biggest similarities to the Mass Effect soundtracks (especially with ME2).

Recommended: Everybody Lies - Deus Ex: Human Revolution; Icarus (Main Theme) - Deus Ex: Human Revolution; pretty much every track on the Deus Ex soundtrack.

Harry Gregson-Williams would be fantastic, I doubt BioWare/EA would be prepared to fork out for him though, the only video games he has scored is the Metal Gear Solid series and Call of Duty 4 (I can't help but imagine this tune whenever I make the beam run).

To be honest though, I would be equally delighted if they brought back Jack Wall. For me, "Vigil" is possible the soundtrack to space itself.

I would say that the only thing that remained constant in the ME franchise are the high quality soundtracks so i think Sam Hulick and Jack Wall should remain for ME4.

Sam Hulick. He said he would do it if asked back.

I get what you're saying, but the point of this post was more to discuss new composers. Jack Wall's departure made it clear to me that as much care and love he puts into the soundtrack for the first two ME games, as an artist he probably wanted to try new things and expand beyond what he had been doing for the last couple of years. And personally, I felt that bringing in new composers worked to the music's favour.
