DAO doesn't even have a ****ing evil side. It just has a douche, cliche good side.
Erm what do you call stabbing a prisoner to death to steal his key? Hell you've played 5 hours and you expect to be able to commit acts of great evil? Give it a chance you're hardly out of diapers yet ingame. It's not like Baldur's Gate dialogue system advanced past Good - "I don't want your money I love everyone" Merc "Thanks for the cash, can I have a bit extra?" or Evil "LOLZ I STABZ U CAUS I'M EVILS "
So far I'm pretty happy with the dialogue choices in DA. It's nice to be able to dish out insults and be crude without suffering silly bad points.

This must be the best line I've ever read in a post EVER! He doesn't try and argue his point, he just comes out and says "Hey morons! Agree with me or your dumb!" I love it. So full of gamer angst and yet so...honest. Brings a tear to my eye.

Labeling this game the "spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate II " is a travesety. The people who put their heart and soul into creating BGII should be offended by this game.
I paid $60 dollars for Dragon Age: Origins. After five hours of gameplay, the only substantive side quests in this painfully linear and horribly, horribly unoriginal storyline require that I purchase and download additional content.
This is offensive to my intelligence- and probably offensive to anyone who played BGII. If you don't feel the same way, then you should consider that you aren't smart enough to realize that you're the victim of an industry that has fallen by the wayside out of greed.
This game is, in no conceivable way, as immersive as BGII. Moreover, the developers clearly didn't care enough about the quality of this game to consider that having to pay $7 and spend time downloading additional content everytime you wanted to do a ****ing side-quest might ruin what little immersion this game could have potentially offered.
This game is a ****ing sham.
I ( sure i am not alone here ) think you are a bit full of yourself.

Lots of stuff in DA:O is optional. It's just not obvious to you that you have a gem of a game in your hands and you can leave alot of stuff just behind you if you don't feel like it. That's _optional_ by definition. Try it. I dare you.
Plus... You go out your way to save kittens from trees while your sister is being tortured half to death in BG2. Well, that's not very present in DA:O and alot of the optional stuff ties in with the main plot. In my book, that's a plus on the immersion side of the argument. If the world is about to be destroyed I don't want to have to do that sh*t just to get to a decent level because, well, it's very hard to feel in character as - for example - the vengeance-fueled brother/sister-bhaalspawn and then save a god**** circus from being consumed by a power-hungry illusion-slinging gnome.
I'm not trying to ****** over BG2 but if you compare both games side by side DA:O doesn't suck nearly as much as you state it does. Even ignoring the fact that I just rendered your argument of only few optional quests irrelevant by throwing a fact in there. 'mjustsayin.

Troll thread?
Do I not sound serious? Clearly neither of you have played any of the Baldur's Gate series. Either that or your standards for these types of games have been significantly lowered as a result of all the garbage that has come out since BGII.
Maybe instead of spending your time on here b****ing about it, you should go play it for more than 5 hours. troll.

I sort of agree that the game does start out in a linear fashion, but I've just played for 4 hours so I'm not going to judge it just yet, and I advise the OP to do it as well.

OP - it has been clearly reported all over the place, that the first part of the game - probably 5-10 hours depending on how fast you are - is very linear. However, after this it becomes a lot more open, and the many sidequests start to open up to you. And yes, I would certainly call some of the statements you make in your post trolling.
SlimCharles - every post I have seen from you is extremely negative, on multiple threads. If you hate the game this much stop playing it, and get off the forums.
Well you see there is one little problem with your observation...
He paid for the game. His opinion is just as valid as anyone elses. Calling him a troll or teling him to quit is not really adding anything substantive to the thread and does in fact make you the troll.
This game has a lot of problems to go along with the good things. Enough problems right off the bat to warrant outcry from those that are dissatisfied. And, since those people that are dissastified paid for the privelege they can post all they want about it in hopes of getting some problems fixed.
I would suggest that if you are happy with the game that you go play it and stop trolling this fellow.

The few WOW like quests in that town kinda pissed me off a little bit too.
Ya this game reminds me more of NWN2 then BG2, but i'll be the first to admit i haven't played much of the game yet though. I also realize it's not BG3
I'm about 10 hours in and am surprised i haven't found any healer classes yet. I'm playing on normal and it's pretty hard. If you count the dog i have 4 warriors... no healers
I'm having fun though.

I would agree with you, but i dont like signing on to the forums only to find about 60 posts from people crying about the graphics, etc.. if thats how they feel, put it all in the same post instead of making your own post about it. Seriously, you people are getting a little carried away, or do you just make your own post to so you can look like the king cry baby of everyone?

Huh? Are you serious? If not, then I'll react with
If ( and what's my guess) you are, my reaction is more like
I, for one, gave Oblivion like 19408 chances, and it never made my experience with it any better. "Giving more chances" just doesn't magically make things better. If a game really sucks, nothing will make it better, actually. Not even your fanboy-crying.

Your complaining as if this were BG 3 ><, ive played BG 1 and 2, and theres some validity to what your saying, this game is no where near as complex as BG, but you seem to have a strange fixation on DLC's? DLC's, as unfortunate as it is, has become part of the gaming industry... why are you in such an outrage that it should be found in this game? Also, speaking of irenicus' dungeon, was BY far, hands down, the most un-user friendly first hours of a game i have ever experienced, to be honest i almost quit on BG, until i got out and realized THAT particular 2 hour session was wretched. In any case, your complaining about the current state of the gaming industry, get over yourself, its not going to change because you cant afford DLC's
Wow, that reminds me so much of myself.
Here is the stupidiest thing you've ever heard: I've got BG2 as a present for Christmas but quickly took out the cd and hid it somewhere deep in my cd collection.
The next July I found BG2 somewhere between old games and decided to give it a try. And I fell in love with it.
How stupid I felt afterwards for giving up in Irenicus Dungeon because it was so boring...

What worries me is how early he found it, this is going to make alot of the players who don't know about this come to the wrong (or possibly right) conclusion.

You know, this guy probably came here straight after finding the ingame merchant, and as others have predicted on this forum this has resulted in anger from the user who did not know that there would be such a thing in the game. I suspect we will see alot more posts like this in the days to come as new players who don't follow this game religiously find the ingame merchant and come here to complain, thinking that they have been misled and even that all the quests need to be bought (he obviously doesn't know that Shale is free, and so is probably thinking the entire game is pay 2 play more) and to be honest that's EA's fault for putting the merchant in the game.
What worries me is how early he found it, this is going to make alot of the players who don't know about this come to the wrong (or possibly right) conclusion.
Wow, at first I thought that putting a DLC-merchant inside the game was a good idea, but that puts it in a whole 'nother light. Hmm...
