Labeling this game the "spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate II " is a travesety.  The people who put their heart and soul into creating BGII should be offended by this game.

*Looks at title on game box*  Hmmm it reads DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS

*Looks at title of older game box* Hmmm it reads Baldur's Gate II

You sure are confused.  DA:O does not have any mention of BG2 on the box.  Maybe you need to read closer next time to understand that they are TWO different games.  Go play BG2 and stop nerdraging on our forum.

5 hours you're barely outside the origin story.  C'mon...

Once the map opens you gain access to MANY MANY sidequests.  The main story is linear - the game is NOT.

You are all gunna hate me for saying it - but I just have to...

I never got the DLC message ingame because I downloaded all the DLC content pieces prior starting a new game.

Back when I was doing minimum wage jobs making 7.25 an hour... I'd have had to work for like... an hour and 15 minutes? to pay for it? Less really... I got tips then too.

I wish someone would do or publish a story about the economic demographic of the hardcore gamer crowd. We can't be in the poverty bubble. We have computers, fairly up-to-date ones at that. We buy video games for 50 dollars (More if you are Aussie's like me try ~ $75-90 US). We have the free time to play these games with the power on (must be working or being supported). What's 7-10 bucks? Seriously.

Now you might broaden the argument to say "It's 7-10 now, but what about the next 25 7-10 dollar addons they want us to buy"? They have to pay the developers to develope new stuff for you. If you want Bioware quality, you have to pay for Bioware time. Alternatively, you can Mod the game yourself (toolset supplied by Bioware for free). Or wait and download other (more talented people's) mods from the community.

If you are too poor to afford the DLC; I submit to you that you need to stop playing games on your computer and get a job, work more hours, win the lottery, or do all of the above and/or stop complaining. My 9 dollars AU was well spent. You get a couple fun things if you choose to take them. Also the DLC has a pretty awesome boss fight (I really enjoyed that Bioware, appreciate your time). It took me roughly 2 hours the first go around to beat. I will probably do it several more times. The average movie in Aus costs me 16 bucks (32 really cause I have to take my wife) I do that rather gladly (Except when I am seeing Transformers II).

So, did I get my moneys worth? Yep. Am I hurting for 9 bucks? Nope. Do I think that anyone reading this forum cannot afford the DLC? Nope. Do I believe that if they don't WANT the DLC that they have a cogent argument towards Bioware about capitalism running rampant in gaming society? Nope (and I'm not even a die-hard capitalist)! Should you buy the DLC and "reimmerse" yourself? Yep.

I'm milking a dead bull here...

You get my point.

If the OP will recant his post and apologise to the Bioware community for offering poor arguments about silly issues, then explain to all that we all choose to live and participate in a capitalist society and that he should have seen the obvious parallel, I will gladly purchase the DLC for him (paying more in AUD than he would in American $) and email him the activation codes.

Think about it. ;)
