I'm confused.. does this mean DA3 will be made exclusively for consoles and is not gonna be a pc game?

I doubt it'll be a consoles exclusive. Ther article's point is that it'll not be released on 360 and PS3.

Great... 'Cause I'm afraid they will continue the dumbing down of the combat system, er, I mean make it more 'accessible' to satisfy broader money, er, I mean 'gamers' like they did with DA2.

I don't want DA3 to became more action-oriented, but the fact that it'll be relesed on PC doesn't mean it's not going to be more action-oriented.

DAO
++ Free camera
+ Mobs in general had less HP (hence, not a lazy way to add difficulty)
+ Difficulty level curve is shallower including friendly fire at normal
+/- Enemies can sometimes behave more predictably
+/- Different injury mechanic
+/- Backloaded damage results in "shuffle" but you can interrupt actions
+/- No cross-class combos, but has spell combos
-  Highest difficulty level easier than DA2
-  Potion spam trivializes health and mana
-  Lacks fortitude
-  Lacks melee-based friendly fire

DA2
+ Highest difficulty level harder than DAO
+ Fortitude mechanic
+ Melee-based friendly fire
+ Potion spam is not an option
+/- Enemies can sometimes behave more unpredictably
+/- Different injury mechanic
+/- Frontloaded damage cuts down on "shuffle" but can't interrupt actions
+/- No spell combos, but has cross-class combos
- Lower difficulties are very easy
- Many fights, especially boss battles, end up being about wearing down huge HP levels
-- No free camera

"Dumbed down" sure does cover all those changes in an, accurate, mature, specific, and nuanced way!!!1!

It doesn't mean it's console exclusive.  It's just that the only interesting question is whether it's this gen or next gen.  It will run fine on PC no matter what console gen it's made for.  And the gen it's made for will have a big impact on decisions they make as they have to keep the weakest links in mind (across all platforms--so memory limitations on PS3 and disc limitations on X360) when designing a multiplatform game.  If it's made for next gen consoles, that's (potentially) great news for PC gamers as it means DA3 will use more (but still not all) of the power available to a PC.  I say potentially because more power gives new decision points, and people can always make mistakes at decision points.  In general, though, I, as a PC gamer (that owns the consoles as well) will take it as good news if it is next gen.

I doubt it's going to be console-exclusive. It will be available for PC. Where consoles are concerned, I also doubt it will be exclusively for next-gen console either, with current gen (360, PS3) being excluded. EA likes money and excluding the current gen or PC, especially early in the life of the PS4 and XBox 720 would be a foolish move which would lose them lots of money.

I have some reservations about that article, because it seems iffy when the original article from Kotaku does not supply a screen cap of the profile with the update to prove what they are saying is true.

Is it concept art for DA3? Are there others that have been released?

If it is going to be on next gen consoles, me buying the game is going on the back burner. No way in hell am i going to shell out over 500$+ just to play DA3.

Sorry Bioware.

I'm sure that for everyone with a similar point of view, there's at least one early adopter with money burning a hole in their pocket who will be desperate for any games for their brand new shiny toy.

Granted I'll be getting it for PC, so I'm neither.

I can't believe everyone is buying this information.

"It's from a Bioware employee!" Yeah, who worked there less than a year in their SHANGAI OFFICE. For those of you who aren't too brushed up on geography, that's a DIFFERENT CONTINENT. We're talking at least six times zones difference, over 2,000 miles of ocean and likely a language barrier separating this random, short-lived employee from the pulse of game design for DA.

I'm not saying its not a possibility that we will see a next-gen DA3, but to put all this stock in A) Kotaku (I mean, seriously, these guys make 70 year old women blush with the amount they spread unfounded gossip) and B) this random Bioware employee from China, is incredulous.

Please stop quoting the article like it is a valid source of anything but the most questionable and nonsense of speculations.

Word. I can't think of a single instance in the past ~15 years where buying a console at launch was ever a good idea.

Though, I've been thinking about getting the game for PC since by the time it comes out I will have a laptop that can actually run a game. Haven't made my decision yet, but it's looking like that's the case at this point.

Afraid so. But as long as EA sees making games as nothing but an investment and sees there's plenty of hyperactive kids who are easily tempted to have their parents buy games as long as there's plenty of action and 'splosions in there, that's where they think the money is, and the money they will follow.

Not to mention if you don't need to 'waste' time writing a good story and/or companions, you can actually aim for a 2 year dev cycle.

Ugh how I hate how corporations have infested this industry.

Well, if it is indeed next-gen then I won't be buying DA3 for an incredibly long time. I'm not buying a next-gen console just for the sake of DA3. Especially when I already have consoles with a large library of games as is.

But I'm not putting too much stock into this article, for the reasons Fast Jimmy detailed.

That being said being a potential launch title for the next-gen consoles isn't a bad idea, and it wouldn't surprise me if that was the idea behind it. Providing it's true.

Even if it turns out not to be delayed, Dragon Age: Inquisition is still going to be a next gen game. EA might release older gen versions as well, but at a minimum it will be available on PC and next gen consoles.

Public comments have been made by EA execs in a few interviews about resources dedicated to production of next gen projects during 2011 and 2012, prepping for next gen launch in Q4 2013, which is the target date announced for DA3.

In any case, should it turn out to be delayed, this is actually good news. It means the game will be less rushed and they will have more time to iterate and perfect the combat, crafting, flesh out the game world with more quests, more varied environments, etc.
