Since chances are the the new consoles'll cost $300-$350 at most if they want the sysytem to sell, it'll still be cheaper than a PC.Karsciyin wrote...
This does mean that anyone who plays with a console has to be able to afford the next gen to even play it... since many console players are such because "who has the money for a high-end PC" this could backfire badly.

Yeah right... so this game is going to instead cost me 300-600 dollars? pfff. Maybe in another economy.

Next gen is comming, there's no stopping it. And with it, new technology and new possibilities.
You don't need to be able to afford it right now, it's still a year away, start saving or be left behind.

Dragon Age isn't a trilogy.

I'd be surprised if Dragon Age 3 doesn't run just fine at 1366x768 on a laptop with integrated graphics. The HD4000 seems to handle most recent games. By the time the game is released Intel will have replaced it with the Haswell HD5000.

Totally missing the point.

No Dragon age is a series closely interconnected by time, set in nations relatively close to one another, and linked by common themes, events, and sometimes characters.
Trista, I sympathize. This economy blows. I don't really want to have to buy a new console at release date prices just to continue a game from a series which I have invested both emotion and time in. I also worry about the status of my save files. Will they be rendered useless if DA III is exclusively for next gen on the console side of things?
I choose, however to remain cautiously optimistic, while preparing myself to get really pissed off at EA/ BioWare should worse come to worse.
Here is why I remain optimistic, however:
1) The transition from one gen to the next has not proven to be a clean break where the older gen instantly becomes obsolete; games do not stop being developed for the old system just because a new one comes out. (yes I'm sure there are examples to the contrary) For at least the first year of the 360's life, certain titles were released for both systems, e.g. Tomb Raider: Legend, Tony Hawk's American Wasteland, Hitman: Blood Money, all three from franchises which were popular at the time.
2) Frostbite 2 is a scalable system. BioWare's own Mark Darrah says so. I trust he knows what he's talking about. People on BSN who say PS3 and 360 can't handle Frostbite 2 don't know what they're talking about. Battlefield 3 is a game which uses Frostbite 2 and it is certainly available for the 360. We old gen consoleros might get a less pretty version with maybe a few of the fancier features cut out, but it'll still be Dragon Age III and at the end of the day the story matters more for this old fogey than how good the game looks.
3) The devs have not yet commented on a single one of these "Next Gen Yay!", "Next Gen Exclusive!" or "NOOOOOoooo NOT Next Gen" threads to date, so until there's an official announcement, we don't know squat! There is pretty much next to nothing to get worked up over... We can all safely save our elation, arrogance, PC snobbery, pleading with BioWare and/or EA, anger, pissing and moaning, etc. until next year when more info becomes available.

PC always seems to be BioWares first focus, Im not saying that they dont care about console just saying that they know there way around PCs. Its one of the reasons Im still such a BioWare junkie after all these years, because they dont put us PC gamers in the back ground like a lot of other developers.
Tried DA2 and ME3 on pc?
DA2's camera controls were made for consoles, it was highly annoying on pc. We should've just had a tactical overview but nope... annoying for consoles so no can do.
ME3 tied half a dozen functions to the spacebar, forgetting that there are more than 5 buttons on a keyboard.
Not exactly shining examples of bioware supposedly NOT putting pc gamers in the background.

You may have me on ME3, I honestly never played it. My cousing is a huge Mass fan, and after his review of 3 I decided not continue with the series <_<, but that aside, I didnt have any issues with the camera (myself) for DA2. I thought the game play in DA2 was the best part of it

Then you would complain that DA4 is next gen then.
May as well be sooner then later.
Sigh... then again this is still just A RUMOR. This forum is so rediculous.

Here's hoping that Microsoft and Sony will see it in their infinite wisdom to sell new consoles at a reasonable price. $500 + and it's not going to happen for me until the price drops. If either start as high as the PS3 did and takes as long to drop in price, I'll be pretty PO'd.

Yeah but with the way that Dragon Age 2 ended it was as if it was leading to something. This would then to me anyway would be a part 2 of Dragon Age 2Sanunes wrote...

If Dragon Age 3 is o the next console then why is Dragon Age 3 and what was the point of Dragon Age Orgin and Dragon Age 2?
Wouldn't releasing the next Dragon Age game tick a lot of Dragon Age fan off and stop them from continuing the Dragon Age story?
No, its not a trilogy like Mass Effect was, each game was independant of the previous games with just a few mentions of what happened in the previous games.

The best thing Bioware can do is tell us if DA3 will be this-gen or next-gen ASAP, so people can start saving and planning accordingly.
I'm sure they can't disclose this yet. The console manufacturers will delay the announcement of their next gen launch dates as long as possible, to avoid hurting sales of the older hardware.

Agreed.
Atakuma - SO sorry I casually threw in the word "trilogy" in the 2 minutes it took me to post a response. I should have heavily researched my choice in words, aggressively analyzing every thought in my response to the topic.
My sincerest apologies to everyone who has played the game, wanted to play the game, or casually strolled through a Best Buy and saw the game box on a shelf.
By haphazardly, and without a second thought, calling DA a trilogy I have wounded and blasphemed the Dragon Age franchise.
