Seeing as how DA3 will be released on the next-gen console (pc included), what will happen to the ability to import DA2 into DA3. I would think this would be scrapped (at least not for pcs) unless there is a way to import your current-gen save onto the next console.
Or will DA3 still be released for current consoles in 2014?
What will happen to the import system now for the next-gen console

I don't believe that the new gen is coming in the next year, and I heard that DA3 is coming in autumn/winter 2013.
But even they launch the new gen, bioware will release DA3 to the actual gen, and perhaps will release the previous titles in the new gen.

You know what confuses me, there is no solid evidence that proves that DA:I will be released on the next generation consoles apart from a few suspect articles.
It has also been stated that BioWare is not getting rid of the save imports. This may change if the are serious problems with save importing though. Until either BioWare confirms or we get some solid evidence that proves this rumour correct it shouldn't be taken as truth.

Why would new hardware matter?

I don't own a console, but I'm guessing most folks are wondering how their saves will be imported? Are the saves on cloud servers or will they have to keep them and xfer them via usb sticks or something.
Then again, Bioware has already mentioned difficulty may arise from using a the new game engine, let alone the new console hardware question adding to it.

Have they? I remember this post from Allan Schumacher addressing the engine's relationship to imports:
This has little bearing on whether or not we can import a saved game. Since we know the structure of the savegames, we can have any import process read what we want and then take that data and pass it in to DA3 what it needs to know.

The post I remember months ago was saying is wasn't impossible to continue saves from an entirely different game engine. They were just non-committal on whether it was worth the time or how detailed it would be.
I'm not sure I care much anyway. DA2 was mostly a throw away game(by player choice definition), and DA1 is so far removed from where we are now, that I am fine with a cannon being chosen if they do feel the need to continue the Flemeth, Morrigan and child plotlines, which I find more interesting than the mage war.
Mostly I think with the changing protagonists and changing locales, I am not all that invested in the save games carrying over in much detail. Just give me a good game and a good story.
