Yeah, it's quite the club. I've been hanging out there for a while now, playing devils advocate. To be among the ITers is rather... interesting. It feels a bit like that movie Dances With Wolves. :P

Do you get some kind of intelligence power trip out of doing that or something, and making those comments?

I certainly do feel that way in the IT thread, being one of the only 4 people there that doesn't believe in the IT.

Not here though. Here I'm just one of the many people that doesn't believe in the IT.

We can use that - "Come to the IT thread - the only place on BSN that truly makes you feel special!"

I think it's fairly obvious that Bioware didn't intend for IT. It's a for profit business and stunts like these aren't worthwhile.

That doesn't mean that IT couldn't work as a convenient explaination for DLC/Expansion/next game to continue the story and make up for their failure at the end of ME3. On the other hand though, because IT got so much attention the writers could never use it because it would be "copying", or atleast that's what the gaming community would say.

No, Given his stated opinion of us he is likely to be just a masachist, while also being a jerk. :D

Do you feel some kind of intelligence power trip if you go to the zoo to observe the behavior of the chimpanzees there?

Or is there another reason why you go to the zoo? Why do people go to the zoo? Your answer to that question will also give you the answer to your own question.

So, you make snide remarks at the animals at the zoo, insulting their intelligence and rattling their cages?

Hey, if ITers didn't want these confrontations, they'd hang out in a Group rather than on the main board.

Anyway, I don't think I've said it yet, but I greatly appreciated your post/article, JShepppp, and the work you put into the rationale. I disagree with the overall assertion, but you make a compelling case.

JShepppp is underpaid.

The problem with the Indoctrination Theory is that the Bad Writing Theory is light years ahead of it in terms of plausibility. You know, Occam's Razor and such.

You can't use Occam's Razor in fiction for the 9000th time.

Of course you can.

We also have Hanlon's Razor, which can be applied to the ending fiasco to point out that bad writing is a more likely scenario than some kind of indoctrination plot-twist conspiracy theory.

http://faculty.gouch...stheory_101.htm

Most students begin by being very skeptical
of the notion that there are "hidden meanings" in literature. This resembles a
very wise logical rule called "Occam's razor," after William of Occam (or
Ockham), the 14th-century
monk who used it in logical debates about the metaphysics of angels and salvation.
"Occam's razor" says that, when trying to explain something, we shouldn't
unnecessarily multiply the number of invisible entities necessary to make it happen (e.g.,
angels, demons, aether, deans, etc.). The principle is an outgrowth of Aristotelian
thinking that emphasizes the study of the material world using rational interpretations of
independently verifiable phenomena.  So we want words to mean what the dictionary
says they mean for very good reasons.  However, there are several other good reasons
why literature might contain hidden meanings, that is, meanings that are not readily
obvious to the casual reader and that can't be found in ordinary dictionaries.

        These two common types of
"hidden meaning" are the products of the author's clear intentions and often can
be found by close reading of the text, with no necessary need for additional historical
background.

Learn to use Occam's Razor right. It doesn't apply to literary anaylsis at all. EVER.

I would if the animals would cook up silly conspiracy theories. But only if they talked back of course. Sadly, animals can't talk and they don't cook up silly conspiracy theories either. They're still fun to watch though.

That still leaves us with Hanlon's Razor, which does  apply to literary analysis, and it is in our favor.

Bacause Arrival sucks! It is when Mac Walters became the lead - all bad writing started from there.

Let's ignore the fact that TIM is partly indoctrinated.

That's what I've been saying too. The board is for discussions and should always be open for everyone. If collectively patting each other on the back is more your thing, go to a group.

Not wanting aggressive intelligence insulting doesn't equate to wanting purely back-slapping.

I honestly don't know what the day-to-day is like there anymore, but I know how a decent challenger to an idea sounds.

If they don't tell me anything I assume they have nothing to tell me.

Only a conspiracy theorist such as yourself would become all paranoid and start to cook up wild theories about how the silent animals are potentially scheming something against us.

That fact that you are paranoid does not negate the fact that you might actually be scheamed against. :D

Besides, have you ever considered the possiblity, that if somebody does not talk to you, it is maybe because this somebody does not like you?
