I know... I know. That's why I said nothing is for certain. 3ds Max isn't the only modelling software around though. I've got Blender. I guess I'll start with that. It is complicated as hell, but if I took that into account, I would never learn and do anything. I thought I'd start with modifying, not modelling, but modifying an already existing hairstyle. I found a nice tutorial and it did seem a bit tedious but also that it was worth it. It also looked like it could be a good start to get familiar with the interface and what not.

Thank you for your insight. I guess I haven't realised what I'm getting myself into yet.

From what I've heard, Blender is even more complicated than Max :-( However, in case you would like to try Max (free license for students and you are a student ;-) ), don't hesitate in asking for help, ok? ^^

Yes, I admit Blender looks absolutely crazy. I have to learn how to open a file in it! The horror. The shame. :pinched: I've never EVER had to use a manual for anything before. Looks like there's no avoiding it this time. But anyway, many things look scary at the beginning. It's still worth learning them.

Thank you about telling me about Max. Sounds like I could give it a shot after all. I don't want a paid a program when I don't know for sure if I'll even have time or patience to learn.

Yes, of course opening a file is not so obvious ^_^' Just remember that importing a file from a modelling software to another is a huger mess. This are the most complicate kind of software around.
Ah, before choosing which one to learn, I recommend you to have a look to the compatibility of DA:O models. IE: NWN2 was only compatible with 3ds Max, not even with Maya, which is a product of the same software house than Max. :-/

Since you are in University, you are a student. This mean you can have a licence of 3ds Max for free. It's completely legal ;-)

I've seen "Improved Atmosphere", but I still have to understood what it is supposed to do :-/

The description says that it "Improves ambient NPC behavior, gives most NPC's different clothes or equipment (to make the world seem bigger and more varied), adds many new tints for armors and weapons, restores cut content, fixes bugs, and much more." By "ambient NPC behavior" I'd say they mean that NPCs perform various activities instead of just standing in once place. I guess it is supposed to make the world more lively and realistic. Nice idea.

It seems interesting. I'll give it a try for my second campaign. For now, I am already getting too much trouble by trying to follow all the paths ^_^'
