What is the point of the Valiant? It has a cool scope in sound, maybe that is the appeal to it?

Viper X isn't even better than a Valiant I.

How is it leagues better than a II?

It's much better than the Valiant. It does almost as much damage and has 6 shots vs. 3.

I got the valiant today and I have to say it's pretty bad compared to the Viper X after the recent buffs.

Valiant needs a damage buff.
I have it at VI.

Yup. An uncommon Sniper is much better than an elite Alliance commendation pack weapon. Maybe at X it is good but at II it is garbage.

Valiant has like no reload time, pretty high rate of fire, is kinda light and does good damage. It would be my weapon of choice on the Huntress - IF the cloak was fixed.

Valiant shoots faster and doesn't have as much recoil, allowing faster headshots.

I hate to quote the sometimes-wrong wiki, but

The Valiant does more damage and fires faster than the Viper, thus functionally rendering the Viper obsolete even though the Valiant has a 50% smaller clip. That said, the Viper is much more accessible due to its uncommon rank, while the Valiant is only available from weekend events.

In comparison with the Black Widow at the same level, the Valiant does around 40% less damage per shot. However, the Valiant is a lot lighter, fires faster, reloads faster, and has drastically less recoil. This results in an actually superior damage output per second and less exposure to risk since the shots come out more rapidly. This renders the Black Widow more or less pointless if you have the Valiant as you'll do better damage in shorter intervals, though the Black Widow's innate piercing is a significant advantage.

However,

Despite its high damage, the effectiveness of the Valiant is drastically reduced when playing on Platinum. The enemies health and/or shield levels makes said weapon incapable of performing one shot kills on anything other than Husks, unless using Tactical Cloak or Adrenaline Rush. At that point, it can adequately kill basic level troopers, and soften up harder enemies.

Then again, I don't snipe on Platinum anyway.

It used to be pretty great, but numerous balance changes have knocked it down a few teirs in terms of usefulness.

It's strengths are it's quick fire rate and extremely low recoil. It's a very forgiving rifle, unlike perhaps the BW which has considerable kick and a lower ROF. Of course those can be easily offset with gear/consumables/marksman so *shrug* BALANCE! :wizard:

Viper has super fast recoil. 6 vs 3 shots. Viper> Valiant. The Valiant is very weak.

It might have a big jump from 1 - 10 in damage like the valkyrie apparently does.

I like it, the viper is fun too. But the valiant can work if you spec it out right. Fun on my Salarian Infiltrator.

Because a uncommon should not be stronger than a N7 promo weap.
Hurricane I > a lot of X weapons.

Glad to hear it, getting my Valiant XP for the sniper challenge was a joy, so I'm really looking forward to doing the Viper next. Thanks OP!

I used to love it, but the BW is a X now, and I have tried the valiant a few times recently, and the BW is just a better sniper. Sure there is a higher kickback, but the climb is 0, and honestly I am just not fast enough a sniper to care about the higher ROF and reload. The BW works plenty fast for me...

An article on the weapons has little impact on in-game performance.

well, the valiant may be better if you have an auto aimbot that can go from head to head. Otherwsie, BW works better...

Erm, my Viper X and Valiant VIII come to 341 dps vs. armor on gold for the Viper and 581 for the Valiant- both w/ spare clip and HVB. W/ a rank II Valiant its 341 vs. 483 against armor, and 357 vs. 505 w/o armor.

I dun see how the Viper X is better. The Valiant II still beats it even w/o reload cancelling :/

Simply put it's the RoF and Recoil. It has 25 more RPM than the Viper with half the recoil, which means you can land 3 headshots and just generally put out more damage a lot faster than the Viper.

Also writing off a gun because it's damage at level 2 doesn't compare to the damage of another gun at level 10 is a bit silly.

The Valiant was the only promo weapon I wanted when I first started playing seriously. That was until I got it. Now I only want to level my Hurricane and maybe the Valkyrie. On paper it seems incredible, but in practice I much prefer the LolQuickBossKill Black Widow.
