So I got a Valiant II today and my Viper X is leagues better, my Black Widow X, 100x better.

It outright embarrasses the Viper, which handles badly (fires too slow).

- Increase the Valiant's reload time from near-nonexistant to well over a full second, non-cancelled.
- Buff the damage so its DPS remains the same as before.
Right now its "high DPS" claim rarely stands up, because enemies aren't available 100% of the time and it actually reloads too fast for each TC cycle. Thus infils will generally wait what feels like 0.75s after the non-cancelled reload for their next cloak cycle to be ready.
The solution is to lengthen the reload so there is no / little wasted time between three dumped shots, the reload, and the next cloak window. It retains the same DPS, but is "burstier" which is what the higher difficulties require.
This would bring it back into competition with the Black Widow without sacrificing balance.

We already have that gun. It's called "Black Widow".

Why is that? Because I'm not afraid to publicly admit when I was wrong? It's the right thing to do... it should come naturally to more people than it does.

Yeah yeah yeah... you told me so. It's ok... I'll take my crow sandwich with fries and a drink.
I'd much rather be wrong and learn something, then be right all the time and learn nothing.
It's going to be hard to convince people about the Valiant's boss killing abilities until they have it at or near X. Until they feel the power in their own hands, there will always be contention... and I can understand that.

In comparison with the Viper, which has too low damage for its hilarious firecap, it's far more powerful, and it's literally like turning everything into 2x speed the sheer speed you can kill people. The Viper is painfully slow to cycle and, other than weight, really has no major use over the Valiant, which is more effective against both heavy troops and mooks.

Dunno about that, I can feel it and mine is V.

Well Bioware - you and your stupid balancing philosophy makes for lame duck guns. The only promotional weapon even worthwhile leveling up is the Hurricane. The Valkyrie is just another gimped assault rifle, and the Crusader and Eagle are hopelessly designed (as evidenced by their somewhat lackluster status even after numerous buffs to both!). The Valiant is just simply not the standout gun it once was. Its been left behind to rot.
Ah well I'm off elsewhere blowing things up with a tank anyways these days.

I'm still gonna write a thread about it. I have some notes on how many shots it took to kill this/that enemy, headshots required, boss armor bars taken down, etc.
I want to do it with my Valiant VII, my kids Valiant X, and the other UR sniper rifles + Kishock.
It's nice going for boss headshots and not sweating it if you miss or not... like when I miss with a Javelin headshot... I feel bad and know I just wasted an entire cloak cycle.

I asked Bioware why the Valiant wasn't buffed with the BW and Javelin. Apparently they thought the Valiant was "good enough".

The Crusader would be a nice weappon-- if it shot where the reticle was. Won't bother trying to argue the Valiant, would be repeating myself one too many times.

Glad to hear it, getting my Valiant XP for the sniper challenge was a joy, so I'm really looking forward to doing the Viper next. Thanks OP!
This.
I to found the Valiant to be a joy. I do have Valiant 4 though. My Black Widow is also 4 and less fun, but it takes mre gettting used to. I think the Valiant suits an infiltrator more than a marksman build because all the MM advantages are wasted on it. They shine with tghe BW though. Not sure about the Viper. I've been running it on casters like the Volus Adept for a laugh. Not super effective. I like the Viper though and it will be better on a different character, scopes on casters are so annoying.
I think the Valiant does have some advantages like reload and rate fire and in that way it pretty forgiving. A good sniper will make better use of a different gun though.

The BW hits hard enough with a Sniper Infiltrator to OSOK most enemies even on gold, but it has a poor reload speed and big kick. The Valiant does less damage per shot, but has a higher DPS and barely any recoil.

Don't other classes use the valiant? Perhaps it is not designed only for an infil.

The valiant is a headshotter's gun. The BW is better for those who cannot reliably headshot. Your ROF is slower, but it has enough damage to kill mooks with a body shot. Bottom line, if you aren't typically aiming for (and reliably hitting) the head, use the BW or Widow.
