So I got a Valiant II today and my Viper X is leagues better, my Black Widow X, 100x better.

Ah, remember the days when people would argue that the Valiant was the best all around sniper rifle in the game? Viper buffs, drop of shield gate, etc... Now we get something like this :)

I disagree that it is better than the Viper, mainly it is different. Don't discount the higher rate of fire. You do a lot more sustained DPS than the Viper, in fact Valiant I does over 100more than Viper X. Valiant I also does comparable sustained DPS to something like a Black Widow V.  Anything that you can't one-shot with the Viper is killed faster with the Valiant... which is basically nearly everything except basics.

Just so we are clear, Viper was one of my favorite weapons in ME2, and I used to defend the Black Widow all the time "back in the day" against the Valiant horde. It is interesting to have to make the arguments for the other side.

I didn't mind using the Viper, it was a fun enough gun even if I kept forgetting I had 6 shots and not 3 (so I kept reloading when I didn't have to). Doing that for the sniper challenge wasn't bad.

That said, I prefer the Valiant. It punches a bit better than the Viper, it reloads so fast there's no real need to reload cancel, and its 3-shot magazine is much more forgiving than the 1-shot-or-you're-boned Widow. It also weighs a boatload less than the admittedly pretty great Black Widow, so if you're a class with any useful powers at all it makes it a more desirable gun.

The valiant is still one of the top snipers in the game, even though it was skipped over in the recent buffs to snipers as a whole. I know a lot of people will say "DPS isn't everything," but I'll throw this out there anyway: my valiant III has a higher sustained DPS than a black widow X does. And the single-shot snipers don't even come close, except for the kishock. The viper, while a decent gun for its weight and rarity, cannot compare. The ROF for the valiant makes it much easier to use in comparison, and the recoil is nonexistent.

While I wouldn't mind at all if the valiant were to be buffed, don't try to say it is a bad gun. It has been my go-to sniper since I got it in April.

It's BSN and you're putting down a weapon some people consider their favorite

Gonna put some stats here that I got from narida.

Valiant I 396.2, at X 515.5
Viper X 365.2

I'd more fun doing the SR challenge with my Viper X than I did with the Valiant III. I did it against Collector Gold...

I really don't understand why people think it's so good. Overrated IMHO.

Don't really understand how the viper is, in any way, better than the valiant.

Are you basing this on your Turian Soldier again, Stardusk? Cause if so, I'd agree with you.

On an Infiltrator, however, the Valiant is probably better. BW is obviously miles ahead of both.

I bet the answer is yes.  Marksman can make up for the Viper's deficiencies somewhat, and doesn't really play to the strengths of the Valiant.

I usually only snipe with the T.Soldier, so yes. It could be different on an Infiltrator though. The T.Soldier has no recoil on the Viper and fires 6 super fast shots.

I am going to be honest with you.

Black Widow X is plain better 95% of the time.

..but Valiant & Black widow just don`t feel same. Some of my characters still use Valiant and not the other, because black widow can be overkill.

Viper? Please, now you are insulting Valiant.

I've said this time and time again, the Valiant could use a buff. Who cares that a weapon is quick loading, IF what it fires has an annoyingly low damage output on Gold?

It WAS great, now, imo, it barely reaches ok.

Ive been saying for weeks that the Valiant needs à buff... But everyone thinks Im crazy. My Valiant VII doesnt do crap compared to the black widow, javelin or kishock. Why should i shoot à shielded mook 2-3 times when 1 body shot from the above mentioned Will do? Its too much effort for too little return.

The Kishock weighs the same and absolutely owns it.

I thought so.  To me, on a not-Turian Soldier, the Viper's fire rate is a bit too slow.  I can re aim and shoot faster than it can.  The Valiant's 100 rpm fire rate is just about perfect.  On a Turian Soldier, the Viper's RoF gets to be about the same as a stock Valiant.  The Valiant's shoots up, but I certainly can't hit headshots at 150 rpm.  Thus, the RoF boost does almost nothing.  The Viper's recoil is a problem for me as well (or used to be, I haven't used it in a long while), but a Turian Soldier nullifies this.  (Though anything I say about recoil should be taken with a grain of salt.  I do not deal well with it.)

And this is just for non-Infiltrators, from my sniping with engineers and such.  On an Infiltrator, the Valiant can very comfortably fit its entire clip into the damage boost window, while the second half of the Viper's clip would be out of the damage window.

Numbers don't exactly say otherwise.  DPS is overrated, against mooks a viper kills in about as many shots as a valiant.  But the larger clip means it is more flexible and can kill more mooks.  And with a RoF boost, you won't be hitting Valiant shots against mooks at its max RoF, but with a Viper you can.  Neither exactly mows down bosses.

It depends on how you're using it and on what class.

Just my 2c. Valiant at any level is great so long as the user can consistently headshot. If the user can't do that, then other weapons will generally be better for that user. I find the Valiant, with amps, able to 1 shot mooks on Gold, and one shot lieutenants after a power like energy drain. Best used on classes with some form of shield stripping ability to prep for the followup finishing head shot.

I personally prefer people talking about the experience than number on this forum
I tried newly buffed Viper in Gold... it`s just not like Valiant.

Never liked it, just too low damage to kill things even with headshots on the higher difficulties.
I see no points in taking it (level V) over my black widow X on soldiers/infiltrators and over my Indra X for "casters".
And actually the ammo count is very poor, you run out pretty quickly.

You should try Tac Scan, makes the Valiant hilariously OP.
