I do have to laugh at the exaggeration in the title though. 100x better would literally mean that you can kill 100 enemies with the BW X, to every one enemy with the Valiant II. LOL

Just comparé it to Other sniper weapons of the same rarity or weight class. Theyre all better than the Valiant.

Id put it on par with the Widow.. which isnt à bad gun either, but the widow isnt an UR promotional weapon.

The commendation pack weapons seem like they're designed to be difficult to use, but effective when used right. The Hurricane (remember it was made pre smg stability mod) is hard to control and inaccurate, and crusader kicks like crazy while requiring precise aim (oh yeah and its glitched). I can only imagine that the challenge of the Valiant is its rate of fire. If you can shoot it at full speed and still land the shots (including some HS), it will be effective. Otherwise, you aren't using it to its full potential and should use something else. Just like a Tempest will be better than a hurricane if you can't control recoil and miss a lot, a Viper will be better than a Valiant if you aren't shooting the Valiant any faster than you would a Viper.

It's much better than the Valiant. It does almost as much damage and has 6 shots vs. 3.

That's only helpful against bosses (which the valiant does more dps against them anyway), if every mook on the map conveniently enters your scope without you needing to look for them, and if you're just a really bad shot to need that many to kill anything on foot. You're going to unscope to look for a new target while reloading with either gun in ~3 shots unless mooks line up in your scope for you. There's no real advantage to a 6 round clip, and almost as much damage =/= as much damage, and the valiant fires faster with less recoil. Viper X isn't better than a lower level valiant by any stretch of the word. To say the viper is leagues better, is just wrong.

Given the sniper rifle challenge and the waves/matches it took to get the challenge points needed for me:

BW>valiant(IV)>viper. I also suck at sniping.

The fastest sniper challenge though for me was the Javelin. I wrapped up 140K challenge points in basically 14 gold waves. I still hate the delay in that gun.

The operative terms in this comparison are "II" and "X".
If you think that the Valiant II should be comparable to better than a Viper X or Black Widow X gets into the whole "should rarity matter" issue.
I think it should BTW, but even then if you are looking for a level II promo to compare to a level X UR, then you will be sorely disappointed. If that were the case, at X nobody would want to use anything different if a Valiant II could even compare to a BW X.

I have it at VI and it is.... good.  Definitely outclasses the Viper by a pretty wide margin.

I concur.

Even the Viper X is even better than a Valiant II, talking from my own experience...

Maybe a Valiant X is worth it, but in my (and probably Stardusk's as well) case, that will take a while....

Personally I believe 'promotional' weapons should be good even at lvl I (like the Hurricane).

It's really weird how bad they are at balancing the N7 weapons. Everybody, their brother, and the family dog is carrying a Hurricane because it's so excellent, but then you look at the all the other promotional weapons which are hardly distinguishable from weapons you unlocked the first week you were playing and just scratch your head.

Why compare anythings effectiveness to the damn hurricane. That gun is way to good, does like double the damage of even the second strongest SMG.

Let me put it in perspective for all you uber-1337 sn1p3rz bashing the Valiant. I just got it today, and it is the only sniper rifle I can actually use.

I split my time fairly evenly between Gold and Silver these days, and most of you have probably not played with a worse shot than me. If I can't spray and pray, I can't hit it. Headshots are a mysterious thing that elude me. Sometimes, I get the 5 headshot medal by wave 10. Sometimes.

But I just tried the Valiant, and I love the scope. It doesn't feel too zoomed (even though it probably has the same zoom as the others), and it feels more responsive to me. I can actually put the crosshairs on targets and make their heads disappear. The Viper, Black Widow, and Javelin are slow, clunky, and cumbersome in comparison.

So speaking as the worst sniper on these forums, I love the Valiant. (Although I will not complain if it gets a damage buff. Everything is better with more power!)

i agree it is a great weapon to learn to snipe with - that is exaclty what I did - sort of a training sniper rifle. Once you learn, and then try the BW, you won't be able to go back.

Tbh the valiant was as roughly equivalent to the black widow (at same level of course) when cloak wasn't nerfed back then (I know the black widow has been buffed several times). While the BW killed bosses better, the valiant could eat through mooks and semi-bosses (ravager/brute) so quickly it was ridiculous due to the quick reload/high rate of fire.

The immense cloak bonus gave it enough power to just one shot any layer of hp/shields with a headshot. Now that cloak has been nerfed, the valiant doesn't do enough damage anymore to do that kind of stuff and now the black widow is just better in everything.

The chief advantage of the Valiant was the ability to unload three shots in the span of a single decloak. Before the TC nerfs, it was a dominating weapon.

Unless you are playing a sniper infiltrator, the Carnifex and Paladin are better than both per level. I have mine at level IX, and it is a darn fine weapon. I don't use it as much as I used to since every other SR got a massive buff.

And the Valiant has faster ROF and quicker reload.
Compare it to the black widow? Well, the weight is not really equal at all.
And also, the recoil and slower ROF of the black widow makes it very different.

If you don't like it, thats fine.
And it is that simple, its preference.

Valiant has the highest multi-clip DPS of the 3 weapons as well.

Valiant I's sustained no-reload-cancelled DPS is higher than Viper X's single-clip DPS. Viper's only advantage is its slightly lower weight.

In other words: Valiant I kills everything at least as fast as Viper X - and most things much faster.
