I'm wouldn't fight for this option to be in the game, but I thought I'd just throw the idea out there - you never know who might be inspired or whatnot.

So instead of having just plain difficulty presets, why not have difficulty settings we can customize? What I was thinking was that every factor you include to increase the difficulty would raise a "Difficulty Score" after every fight you complete. For example, if someone wanted the ultimate challenge, they would set AI intelligence to max, enemy health and damage to max, friendly fire on (set to full damage), bosses scaled up further, an XP handicap (less xp recieved from all sources), and a monetary handicap in place, their Difficulty Score would be very high by the end of the game. This could do things like unlock content (weapons, armour, locations?) for all games in progress and future ones that you may start. There could even be certain levels of content unlocks (the highest of which could unlock something very special and unique).

Sure there could still be the normal difficulty settings like Normal and NIghtmare, but they would just be combinations of these factors. But you could tweak the presets further, say, Nightmare without friendly fire.

Some of the factors I was thinking of were (all of these would have varying degrees you can set):
 - Increased enemy damage
 - Increased AI intelligence
 - Increased enemy health
 - boss stats increased beyond normal scaling
 - friendly fire
 - XP handicap
 - $$$ handicap
 - enemy resistances increased
 - more enemies in fights
 - less loot dropped

Essentially, you could view these as Skulls like in halo, and there are rewards for reaching certain difficulty scores.

Thoughts?

I'm not a fan. I've never gotten this in halo, why do this? Why make them game even harder than hard? What's the point? Just make a new difficulty level if someone wants more challenging combat, all this does is tie up disk space that could be used for something else besides an unlock that only a small percent of people will see. Add a few quests or even a new NPC instead of a dozen hidden skulls that unlock "the same guy... only more health and resistance!"

Sorry in advance if I'm misreading what it is you want or if I came off as argumentative, not trying to be.
