When I was a young boy I had a dream. Everywhere I went  it was like a burning desire that couldn't be satiated. Consuming my relationships, my schoolwork, and my every thought. I would often sit up awake and just stare at that damp street light thinking "why god why, I just want a bad ending to one game"

I'm hoping dragon age 3 will finally give me peace.

I hope it's "interesting" as in "That was amazing!!" not "interesting" as in "Burns down the forums" :D

DAI is not the ending of the series, so I think the players are, at least, not punished with something like ME3's synthesis or a variant of control (Unless the task in DA 4 is to defeat the new Thedasian Empire with Inquisitor as emperor)

It's true. We'll give it our best shot.

I'm not surprised.

Why is that necessarily a "good" ending? Life and power? Is martyrdom, or sacrifice of power, for perhaps the greater good, necessarily a bad or lesser ending?

Yes it is.

I still strongly dislike DA2's cliffhanger, so I hope they will at least avoid that. DAO's ending was far more satisfying and had a stronger sense of closure, imo.

It feels strange, but I adore the Origins ending. Ultimate Sacrifice had just the right touch of everything for me (to this day, it's one of my all-time favorite video game endings).

I did the US on my first playthrough originally, but for some reason I didn't get funeral scene or even the epilogue slides. It just went right to the menu.

Immediately went back and did the ritual.

Good endings in BioWare games were. KOTOR 1, DA:O, ME1 and 2. That is it.

I can garuntee that the ending will have no bearing on what the player actualy manages to achieve in the game. Much like DA:2 and ME:3.

I myself am hoping for a terrible ending, and a brilliant ending. And everything that comes inbetween.

Unfortunately bad endings are very popular these days. Sometimes I just stop playing at very end of  game just to avoid disappointment. And by good ending I don`t mean that " Evil was finally defeated, put on it`s knees and cruelly murdered by Good" No I just want my PC to be alive and more Powerful  than ever. That`s why I really liked ending in KOTOR-1 and hated  ending in KOTOR-2 .
Hope I`m not alone in this.....

No I just want my PC to be alive and more Powerful than ever.

So, by your definition, the ultimate sacrifice was a bad ending in Origins?

No Deus Ex Machinas, lots of catharsis.

I recommend Robert McKee :P

(Seriously, I expect you have already read McKee, but yeah, read it again! :P)

An ending with slides or better akin to Origins would be super. I do like being able to choose whether my hero lives or dies too (loved ultimate sacrifice, felt like a proper hero). I don't want to be forced into an artificial philosophical debate with a brand new character out of left field in the final moments, though.

DA3 will end with the player meeting the creator of the Darkspawn, who gives you the choice of destroying all Darkspawn, controlling all Darkspawn, or synthesizing all races with Darkspawn. Oh, and all your previous choices won't matter.

It becomes more and more apparent to me that many people here hated the ME3 endings not because they made no sense, but because they didn't get the chance to ride into the sunset with their love interest.Image IPB

And it's even more apparent that people are doing the equation:
ME3 had bittersweet endings
ME3 's endings didn't work
Therefore, ALL bittersweet endings don't work.

Anyway, Bio should probably make a "nearly-impossible to achieve golden ending where all characters survive and play with kittens and go to Disneyland and even the villains become good" just so people won't complain for the next few years.

Now there's nightmare material. That's even creepier than the ME3 synthesis. Let's hope they don't do this (I'm not a ME3 ending hater, btw. I do see Control and synthesis as the "wrong" choices, but that's a debate for a different forum).

May we have a 'The World is Not Enough" ending- my character LOVES Christmas, (Andrastmas??), in Turkey. Yes, our characters should be shabanging a sexy scholar named Andrastmas Jonesinator in Starkhaven :>. Denise Richards may be necessary as VA, maybe not.

After the ending crisis of Mass Effect 3(which still stays half-fixed), I'm pretty sure both DA and ME devs won't take any risks again.
Bioware's community is clearly always in favor of endings which include;
-Epic and visually astonishing battle scenes for the simple fun of it,
-Sense of closure,
-Questions answered by good story telling, not a fancy "a wizard did it" with just 2-3 options, which look totally the same,
-Seeing important characters and factions they interact in action, either in a combat situation, a compilation of "what happened to those guys?" after scenes, or both,
-Simply, a good enough final mission,
-Ideas from more successful rpgs, especially Witcher 2,
-At least one scene with the love interest,
-Finally, REAL choices about the world we affect,

I'm sure they will deliver the most they they can.

Personally I've always liked choice, a happier ending is always welcome as long as there are other options. DAO captured this for me I have completed the game with every possible choice at the ending. My favorite is actually sacrificing Loghain lol. But the Ultimate Sacrifice was done very well and it was actually a genuine choice that was balanced well with the other endings (for me at least).

Mass Effect 3 failed for me because it made me feel I had no choice in regards to the ending and each choice left a very sour taste in my mouth. Not to mention that because I wanted my character to live I had to commit genocide.

Mages all dying is a good ending.

---

I actually enjoyed Origin's "sacrifice" ending because it gave closure to the story and character. So long as there's closure I'm happy. That said I enjoyed the endings where The Warden survived as well because again it led to an epilogue and conclusion in which I myself could go and speak to people to learn about what they planned on doing while simultaneously deciding what my Warden would do next.

Dragon Age 2 ends on a cliff hanger ending with no true closure. For me that was a problem although I didn't think it was a "bad" ending. I just would have preferred an epilogue and conclusion to Hake and co.

Well, let's see. Bioware's never done a bad ending, so i don't know why they would NOT make a good one.

ME2 was a bit cheesy, but that's about it. I have high hopes for DA ]|['s ending.
