Glad 17 is up, I was feeling down when I read 16 and cried! Alessar's a doofus to think Zevran would think less of him but I guess he's not thinking straight right now.

@Creature, d'awww, I didn't really set out to make anyone cry, I swear. XD; Alessar is, indeed, not thinking entirely logically, but the whole kerfuffle after the earring makes things seem worse than they really are...



@LadyDamodred, thanks! :3 Zevran froze up on me for a while when I tried to pry his feelings out of him, but I finally got him to talk. Hopefully the next part will be a bit easier, now. ^^;

I just had to identify my fathers body. I don't know how healthy this is but I keep running back to the forums here, reading posts about the game and characters and immersing myself in fanfiction. I have read your story and commented on it before. I had not read this entry. It was very nice to forget long enough about my life that after i read this really good entry in your story I was able to regain control over myself.



I really like how you handle Zevran. He took the hair and made it a part of his weapon so he would never forget. I understand that.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that, frostajulie. I think a little bit of escapism is warranted... Glad this was a bit of a helpful distraction for you.





I think Zevran got too used to following Alessar's lead and letting him do his Hero Things without question... and of course, this time that was a disaster. Among other things, he's providing a reminder to himself that sometimes the Warden does need to be protected, even from his own unselfish actions.

Zevran keeping the hair as a remembrance and a reminder was so touching. His care for Alessar showed in every sentence you wrote. I was touched by the way Zev is struggling with his feelings even as he acknowledges that they are there. The exchange with Alistair was also very well done. Zevran's care for Alistair's concern was very telling in its own way - as a sheltered Templar trainee Alistair would never have had to deal with anything like this - particularly with a friend involved.

The political implications of what happened add a nice depth to the story - not just random cruelty, but a deliberate attempt to break Alessar. Overall you handeled a difficult and delicate subject with perception and sensitivity - well written.

Thanks, Tanith   I think this is kind of the "point of no return" for Zevran -- his almost instinctive reactions and care for Alessar prove that his emotions have gone somewhere out of his control.  Of course, he's still struggling with that a bit, but maybe more because he thinks he should than because he wants to...

While thinking of this stuff, it seems surprising that the death of Vaughan ISN'T brought up by Loghain in the Landsmeet (at least, not that I recall)... maybe it was avoided since his death wasn't required, but y'know, that's a hell of a charge to level against a Warden, perhaps painting an elf as either a dangerous revolutionary or an Orlesian agent running around killing nobles...

I've got a couple more things I need/want to get done, writing-wise, before I sink into another chapter, and then I've got to replay the post-rescue and Alienage parts of the game to refresh my memory XD (Not that *that* takes long, but it needs to be done!) Depending on holiday zaniness levels, I hope to get started on WWN 19 *some* time this month, though :3

Ergh, not so much writing done in the past month, but I'm trying!  

Anchor - Zevran does something crazy in a fight and is seriously injured, leaving him with perhaps a bit too much time to think about the fact that he could have died.  Alessar threatens him with something rather interesting if he tries that again.  XD

The Slow Thaw - The lingering Ferelden winter is not to Zevran's liking at all.  Fortunately, Leliana gives him an idea for how to deal with it.

Also added a couple of fantastic gift/prize fics to the Et Cetera section, check 'em out!

Another quick addition: Aim, a short piece from the Disappointments storyline.  Zevran tries to protect his new employer in a fight, which almost leads to a  misunderstanding.
