This month's challenge is "To the Winner go the Spoils/End of the Road":

Every adventurer has a different reason for adventuring, but eventually we beat an arch nemesis and loot their ill (or legitimate) gotten goods. How about some toys for the end of that quest/adventure? Instead of just the standard pile of GP and a spiffy lootable weapon, how about placeables for a dragon's hoard? What sort of artwork and museum goods were locked up into the vault tiles from the January Rogues challenge? Piles of paintings? expensive rugs and tapestries? How about some trophies from past adventures.. (Anyone remember the mounted heads on the Adventurer's Guild wall in the old "Quest for Glory" by Sierra?) Stuff to spruce up the post-adventure tavern stop? We have a social phenotype now.. how about some new consumables for them to equip? Legs of Mutton and Turkey, variety of equipped bottles? We have a new dartboard placeable from the 1.69 patch, what of other games of chance? Equippable hands of cards? Placeables cards for the table? Reskins/remodels for the antiquated "Innkeeper" "Shopkeeper" and "Prostitute 1/prostitute 2"? class specific items to signify your wealth.. reskins of the equippable books/musical instruments.. A Dragonscale and platinum bound first printing copy of "A is for Ankheg, B is for Barghest" Did Johnny give the devil his due and win that shiny fiddle made of gold? Or did the Balors get his soul? Did our cleric recover that Silver Chalice like she had hoped? Monster heads posted on spikes as a reminder that the quest was completed? Adventurers/adventurer heads posted on spikes as a reminder that the meddling do-gooders were defeated?

This theme was suggested by usagreco66kg.

Guidelines:
  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine, though state-of-the-art amateur's work would require 100% original work, but that's up to you.
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome, don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by January 2nd, 2013 at 10 AM EST. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)

Somethings you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:
  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot *from in game* for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie).
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. ** Placeables and monsters should include a portrait. **
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.
  • If you are doing tileset content, *please* let me know ahead of time so I can get you the set and itp files to work with. I’m horrible at merging those so this bit you will need to provide.
Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity and surprise!

If you have concerns/questions about this month’s Challenge please post in this thread.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here
***When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.***

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:

Submit theme suggestions.
Vote for January's CCC theme.
Email content to: NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com

I'm going to make a troll's head on a wooden or metal spike.  Probably pull the head off a Project Q troll (they really do look the best of any I've seen over the years), put it on a spike set in the ground or between some rocks, and add an on-used script so that the troll head tries to bite any PC that is foolish enough to touch the thing, while playing one or more troll combat vocalizations.

This is assuming, of course, that a new cooling fan for my laptop shows up in the mail so I can install it and actually open gmax. :?

<bookmarking anything...>

Nice, Pearls :-)

As it applies to Cestus, though, what do you think I, er, he should incorporate into his dynamic dragon hoard besides coins and gems? A few crowns? Goblets of fi*cough* er, goblets? I'd rather avoid weapons and armor on the principle that we don't know *what's* inside, but whatever it is has value at the Sign of the Three Balls ;-P

Note: In Amethyst metallic dragons require a diet of their associated metal for reproduction & growth (hence the rarity of platinum dragons!). So dragon hoards tend to be dominated by the requirements of the dragon. Chromatic dragons, otoh, grab anything that shines... So this first Hoard will be dominated by silver <'cuz the old skinflint can't bear to see the dwarf haul off all his gold>
Because it is the hoard of Argentiel, bird. <does he *know* you're borrowing his hoard?>
I'm sure he must have some idea. You know how bard's hear things... <you didn't tell him, did you>
He's a busy and popular celebrity. Why bother him with this little trifle :-) <and when he finds out?>
Hate to be the dwarf, then ;-) <oh! my! tricky, wizard>
Thank you very much :-)

<...that leads to treasure>

Would a giant gold coin trap that falls on you, or a creature model that's a giant gold coin, count for this challenge?

Not one of my suggested themes this month, but in my (currently very tired) opinion these sound like things that would prevent a character from getting the "spoils" or making it to the "end of the road". :P

I think such things would make for a great new theme.  Perhaps call it "More Than Meets The Eye", or "Everthing That Glitters..." (feel free to finish fresh prince reference in your mind), focused on things that are not as they appear.  Myriad mimics, anyone?

Experience when you recover a trap????

When you disable a trap in game you receive experience points; But you don't recive any when you recover one of it. As my favorite class for play is rogue, I found that very annoying , because you need a bigger training in "disable device" to recover a trap than just to disable it.

I've set up a list of art objects, bits and baubles, and various shiny-stuffery (with descriptions and everything, ma!) that gets distributed as loot in my modules. Might anyone else get mileage out of that?

giant gold coin trap? hrmm... maybe if it also came with simply the giant gold coin to keep as a placeable object (ala the giant one cent penny in the Batcave..)

The idea was actually twofold.. some of it was for more lootable goodies (e.g. "make something pretty!") some was for other signs of success (e.g. monster heads on pikes, etc... time to update the one that came with stock 10 years ago!) and finally some when the baddies win... (Player heads on spikes.. remnants of the failed adventuring party that tried before you) etc...

a gem eyed statue courtesy of the AD&D players manual from many years back...

For those not into making models, how about some prefab creations?

Make a placeable (perhaps a statue), and give it a description with some unique history.  Maybe it was taken from the hoard of a dragon, or found in the ruins of an ancient castle.  Maybe a large crystal was dug up by dwarves and presented as a gift to their king (who gifted it to the PCs for aiding him against a drow army).

How about non-magical treasures?  An ornate gold-hilted sword that once belonged to a prince that was eaten by an ogre before the PCs could save him.  A helm that was the symbol of leadership for an order of paladins.  A miscellaneous treasure that is rumored to attract dragons.

Maybe a prefab NPC is more to your liking?  A young dragon that the PCs hatched from an egg and is now kept as a sentry at their base of operations.  An NPC spouse that a PC once rescued from slavers. An NPC bard that sings the heroes' praises every time they visit a particular tavern/inn.

Maybe make some new art assets...

How many times have you had to bring back a monster's head as proof of slaying it?  Individual and/or piles of severed monster/enemy heads...goblins, dragons, ogres, orcs, etc.  Maybe some other parts...a dragon's wing, a giant's foot, or a displacer beast's hide (with tentacles).

How about tokens of thanks for saving villages/towns/kingdoms?  A golden ale stein from the father of the dwarven lass you saved from a tribe of goblins.  A finely sewn cloak from the old lady you saved from a werewolf.  A sheet of paper granting you title to a castle, courtesy the king.  A locket from the princess that ran off with you and you "saved" by later returning her to the palace.

Feel free to use any of these suggestions, or make something else entirely. :D

Come on, folks!  What else are you making (besides some treasure piles and a troll head on a spike)?

I'll take "Identification of Sutton Hoo Artefacts" for $1000, Alex...er...Rolo. I meant Rolo. :D

That's funny because I almost used it as a clasp for these:

Jeweled tome placeables with open and close animations. Still working on the icons for inventory items and a few other tweaks.

While Sutton Hoo is the most famous Saxon hoard found in the uk there have been others. For those wanting further inspiration from this time try this search on google images.

Those books look very nice, firebird!
Very good idea to add the animations.

I've wanted to add a treasure cave to the mines/cavern tileset for a while now. This challenge would have been a good opportunity to do so, but unfortunately I have too much other things to finish.
I know you can use placeables to make a treasure cave, especially with the new content made for this challenge, but with a tile you could still add a few things that you can't add with placeables.
The piles of gold would fit the lay of the terrain, the gold could have self illumination, there could be light beams from above and lens flares.
Some placeables would still be needed so there were treasure chests to open and the like.
Neither a treasure cave tile alone nor placeables alone would do the trick for me. I'd use a combination of both.
