BS. What is it, then? Don't say "tanking", or I'll reach through the computer and slap you.

I would say it's DPH more than DPS.

i belive 2h is supposed to fill the role of CC. still no excuse to barely do anymore dps than sword and board.

Those are terms that interchangeable, honestly, and you’re splitting hairs. If you're talking burst damage it still isn't comparable with Archery (Arrow of Slaying) or Dual Wield talents. "Spike" damage in this game, whilst I think we all understand the concept, is basically non-existent - more over, it's useless. There is no encounter you'll ever be in where you'll need to spike a target down (due to healing or otherwise).

Two-Handed is to Warriors what Shape Changing is to Mages.

It's a shame - I'd love to play a 2H warrior. It's what I intended to do from the start, and on paper it seems like a good idea, but in practice I'd rather stab myself in the eye with a needle full of AIDS.

Heh. By the end of the game (level 21...22ish), my two handed Berserker/Reaver dwarven noble warrior had 125ish attack rating, and a 72ish damage rating. Same with Sten. Two two handed warriors wielding a buffed out Starfang and Chasind Great Maul = major death. With all of the stamina regeneration on my main character, I could bust out a lot of the two handed skills.

Edit:  Just double checked my DPS stats
69.6 Damage w/ Heavy Swings
111 Attack Rating w/ Heavy Swings

79.6 Damage w/ Heavy Swings and Song of Valour and berserk
116 Attack Rating w/ Heavy Swings and Song of Valour and berserk

He has little to no dexterity (around 20ish) and nearly 60 strength.  With a badass two hander, you'll be cleaving faces off necks in no time.

For those of you saying it has more "control" over other specs, it doesn't.

2H has Pommel Strike, it has Stunning Blows which is a proc and cannot be relied on, and Two Handed Sweep.

Sword and Shield Warriors have Shield Bash, Shield Pummel, Over Power and the benefit of added defence with a shield.

Even Dual Weapon has Riposte and Punisher, AND it has TWO AoE attacks instead of one.

It has zero more crowd control than a sword and shield warrior for no tangible benefits. It's disappointing.

Also, Sunder Arms, Sunder Armour, Destroyer...

Stunning Blows seems to have a 50% proc rate on crits, which turns your auto-crit talents into control talents...

None of which are CC abilities. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Again, like I said, I'd have loved to play a 2H warrior. I love the idea of them, but the implementation of them currently in Dragon Age is terribly lack-lustre.

Pommel is on half the cooldown of the shield skills, so twice as often. 2H sweep KD's an entire crowd, the shield skills KD one target, and sweep does damage to an entire crowd. You didn't know this??? Doesn't sound like you even gave 2Hers a try.

Additional benefits: more DPS, far greater armor penetration, high chance of stun with critical hits (for which you have 2 talents).

Pommel strike is almost instant. Stunning blows works alongside activated skills (it's full of good stuff when you use mighty blow/crit strike/sweep...good luck simultaneously stunning a horde of darkspawn with a s&b warrior). 2 handed sweep is a 360 degree aoe knockdown. They dwarf the s&b "cc"

Personally, I love my 2 hander. Consider I played him AFTER a dual-wielder too, surely this says something?

I said control, not crowd control.  CC is a subset of the more general 'control'.  Control includes those abilities which limit the opponent or impede their effectiveness.

Don't discredit your own argument by being petty and arrogant; I've played my fair share of 2H warriors to know I dislike their playstyle intensely.

This is a new and original topic. You should be applauded for your intrepid refusal to use the pedestrian search function.

Also, the two-handed line is not gimped, despite the many claims to the contrary. Antecdotal evidence, is, in fact, ancedotal. You are just doing it wrong.

In fairness, this was created nearly a month ago. He's one of the original whingers...let's give him that much at least.

2h debuffs aren't that great I read somewhere it's minus 5 armor that doesn't stack for destroyer.  Also the way armor is handled more damage is essentially the same as armor piercing and actually more flexible because it's relevant to things that aren't well armored.  Because like many things in this game armor is a flat additive value.  If it was a percentange than perhaps things would be different.

The crowds in this game can get too unwieldy for any physical "crowd" control to be that relevant because of stamina limitations and cooldown times unless you are EXTREMELY diligant about pulling but even then the game forces it's hardest combats in close quarters/ambushes and so on.

I cannot even imagine what people are doing wrong using a 2 hander.  I have Sten in my group on this go round with the 2 handed star sword and he is an insane DPS machine.  Even with Threat and Taunt my tank has a hard time keeping the agro with him.

Make sure to run with precision on and absolutely respec him from the way he is originally set.  In large groups position him  correctly and a sweep attack is absolutely devestating to mobs.  I put him in the Dragon armor till i can make the Sup Dragonbone from Wade.  Once you have that armor and the helmet with stam replen the 2 handed damage approaches caster damage potential.

If you didn't know THer's do better control than Shielders, then you didn't play them nearly enough to be judging the power to be lackluster. Style is another thing altogether, but there is no power lack there. Two handers do control better - just look at the talent powers. Better still, get a build list off the net and try playing it. I was not disappointed.

If you're honest about wanting to play one, please try. If you really don't want to, then don't, but don't blame lack of power.

My current playthrough will be a Dwarf Noble (2h), Sten (2h), Oghren (2h) and Morrigan (debuffs/cc) team. Not much defense to go around but enemies won't be getting up off the floor any time soon. >)

2h is alright, really. You just have to be careful with your stat allocations. It's all about the activated abilities. In general:

S/S - Defense, actives for CC

DW - Offense, actives for AE or debuffs, otherwise auto attack

2H - Offense. Auto attack is slow, actives for damage/AE and CC.

Jesus Christ man, read my posts.

Ultimately it doesn't matter. I, personally, do not think Two Handed is as good as any of the other talents. I'd be willing to wager that if we could correctly parse the combat log of Dragon Age, we'd find that 2H is indeed the weakest of all DPS specs for Warriors. "Oh but it has crowd control" - right; which other specs get as well, which is clumsy to use and which you never need.

What I think, however, is irrelevant. If others out there are having a good time with their 2H warriors, more power to you.

I think 2H starts out slow, so people have a poor opinion of it. But once you get into the double digits and better weapons it is great. Obviously with the large crowds you fight an AoE CC mage will always be really helpful, but you get 4 slots to fill. 2H fills a slot quite well.

Your 2Her probably sucks, if you put lots of points into Dexno offense.  I suspect you're too busy rerolling your character to bother reading this though. :kissing:

It's a simple principle:  You have to spread your stats in this game.
