I've updated my drivers and still have the grid lines on the ground I reported in my other post. I am also getting BSODs and they certainly seem to be coming more often. I am hoping that my card isn't dying; however if it is, are there any suggestions for a good mid-range card if it comes to that?

HD 5770 is cheap and good.
It's a replacement card for the HD  4870 cards that are going out of production.

It has added support for DX11, SM5.0 and some other nice stuff.
As well as 1GB GDDR5 Memory, Making it 4 times as fast as the HD3870 memory. :D

I got one myself after Dragon Age burnt my two HD 3870.

Too funny, right after I posted I started looking around pricewatch, ebay, etc and pretty much settled on the 5770 as a replacement...great minds think alike

No mention of DA:O in the new 10.1 driver notes. I don't think it's for ATI to fix, it's up to Bioware and we're still waiting......

The closes acknowledgment of the ATI issue I have seen was from the following link:

http://social.biowar.../index/576445/7

but that was close to a month ago. So if you have been trying to play the game since release that's close to two months of playing a demo since the crash starts to happen after a certain point in the game.

Well, i think it's pretty obvious now, that BioWare doesnt give a damn about fixing the problem.

And ATI probably doesnt know how to fix the problem.

So if you're having this problem, and still want to play the game..

Getting a new graphics card is pretty much your only choice. :S

I expected more from BioWare.. I canceled my preorder on Mass Effect 2 as a punishment. :)

Thou, i already finished the game. >:D

How? I wont tell, but you deserved it.

The thing is I really want Mass Effect 2 really really want it... Funny thing is the day I was going to go preorder it is when I ran into all the problems with DAO. After a day two days and then finally a month passed by I just said to heck with all the dlc and mass effect 2. Since I cant play the game, guess the money I would have spent on the game has to go to the graphics card first and if there isnt something better by then get mass effect 2. Had to read the spoilers on DAO cause I got tired of waiting... hope they answer what happens with certain characters in the expansion or at least in DAO 2... thats if I can play it when it comes out.

For what its worth I was able to resolve my black screen issue. I had been running 2 monitors. I disabled monitor 2 and all issues went away. Not sure if this will help with the 3xxx version of cards but for my 4850 this did the trick.

It's alarming to see this problem have so much trouble getting Dev attention. Maybe a Link to this thread should be messaged straight to Victor Wachter?

This forum simply isn't intended as any kind of clearing house for EA's support to work through, and Bioware's tech people just don't come in here (AFAIK, that's the way it always is after a Bioware game is released).

Bioware and EA tech people should look through these forums more, they would learn a lot! I could buy a pizza from pizza hut and get more tech support then then I do from EA!

Crap tech support and selling flawed games will just tempt good people to pirate games, and that helps nobody.

Or... They might start treating the EA Logo like a 'Mr. Yuck' Sticker & start paying a LOT more attention to competitors game choices...

It's funny, i actually got "banned" from these forums a couple of weeks ago, but it got reverted for some reason.

I bet they were trying to silence me, but noticed that i'v only posted on these issues, and that'd probably look bad for them.

I would think 'Banned' would mean gone forever. Perhaps ya were only suspended? 'Implying' playing a game despite it's 'pre-order' being cancelled in BioWare's face is NOT the rogue thing to do, it's the rouge* thing to do. :P

*(Minor sidenote: I'm considering attempting to develop 'rouge' a brand new meaning with the definition of "Rouge: A rogue with pathetic, weak, or clumsy skill. A rogue with terrible stealth. Or any other quality that would make said rogue a disgrace to their kind." :P)

So gave in and got the ATI 5770 but aside from the mouse cursor going all huge and the annoying memory leak thing (if people have another term for when you are playing the game and the load times start taking up to several mins to finish by all means please correct me). I can finally and to some extent play DAO, what can I say I love the game so I got the DLC too. Although wardens keep is $2 to much for what it had but whatever. Now if I can get ATI to read these forums and fix the huge mouse problem and the not being able to go full screen when I play videos then I will be happy. Either way, got a week left to decide if I want to keep the card or not =)

edit: I would like to thank the people at ASUS for making a bios update really easy. Fixed my full screen and big mouse problems joy!

ATi is aware of the problem, it has already been fixed on the HD 5800 series.
Unfortunately, my motherboard is already fully upgraded, and i still have a huge mouse. :P

Thou, the next CCC or hotfix will fix it for me.

5800... $400 bills.... na I will just stick with the 5770 until I build a whole new gaming comp. At least by then I will be able to play Crysis 4.

Give this one a consider: SAPPHIRE 100258-1GHDMI Radeon HD 4850.

Edit: Oops, sorry about this... Forgot these are temporarily outta stock. Well, there's plenty of versions of this Card from other Manufacturers.

the 4000 series have been put out of manufacturing and replaced by the 5000 series.
That is..

4850 = 5750.
4870 = 5770.

The prices are just about the same, but the 5000 series has extra support for dx11 and shader model 5.0

Many thanks for the info! :) I didn't know about the 4000 Series going down. I'll have to stop recommending my Card then, thank goodness that I got mine before it was too late. I want to have a buff, sweet Graphics Card, but i'm poor. I'm still trying to get my puder built, & although this up-to-date version of the above card, the SAPPHIRE 100282SR Radeon HD 5850 looks absolutely beautiful, I can't afford it right now, unless I gave up on getting my new build done after next year. :crying:

I'm trying to build funds, & maybe after I get my new puder built, I can try to get the 5850 sometime next year or the year after, & if I do, I can hand-me-down my 4850 to a family member.

I feel bad for you 3870 owners. I can't help but to wonder if the Manufacturers & EA are blowing you off because of the 3870 getting left behind. It's still not cool, they could at least attempt a band-aid fix. :(
