At the Upper End right now, the Radeon 5n00s have the lock on performance, and nVIDIA's Fermi release has no announced release date. Anyway, every month there is a new version of the Toms Hardware "Best VGA Value for $ xxx " so let's look at that, shall we?

(It is not necessary to look at anything other than PCIe; nVIDIA having dropped AGP effective with the Geforce 7n00 generation.  It is also so easy to install a video card that no one should feel even slightly apprehensive over the issue.)

I had an elderly tab in Firefox pointing to last September's article, when the Radeon 4850 was in that price range.  However, you can only spend about $140 or so, in order to have money left for the upgraded power supply that is required for more powerful video cards.

Five mionths later, the same card is tied with the GT 250 (renamed 9800 GTX+) at about $125, in an article that they published yesterday:

www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card,2521-4.html

Here's a Radeon for that amount, from a good brand (XFX) : www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx

And here is an excellent Seasonic 500 W PSU for $68: www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx

Its not just a simple case of throwing out an old graphics card and replacing it with another SpicyRice94.

First you need to check what video your motherboard can support.
Second you need to know if your power supply can run the card.
Third you will get advice here from people saying nVidia is the best and others saying ATI is the best.

If you are not all that computer literate and not comfortable with googling review sites for video cards then I suggest you would probably be best off going to a respected (very important) computer repair shop with your pc and telling them what games you want to play and taking their advice.

Not meaning to sound like I dont want to help but I have seen so many threads in forums turn into a technical nightmare from a seemingly innocent question like..........
"Hmm i forgot to ask this but what kind of graphics card do you guys recommend for the new games for now days????"
;)

You already have this response about combining the PSU and GPU at Newegg.
