Also make sure that your party members have no injuries. Either use injury kits or go to camp to heal your injuries.

Difficult, but not impossible. When I did it, I was a mage with Wynne, Alistair and Sten with me. Alistair and Sten went to get their melee, my mage used Earthquake (mind, it can be pretty usefull although it doesn't really damage anyone, just tumbles them down) together with Fireballs, Cones of Cold and other spells, and Wynne was healing

Thanks Someguy and TUHD!

I actually beat them after majorly re-considering my tactics and it only took me three tries. :-P

I also beat the bandits outside of Orzimar after only a few tries with the newer tactics so thanks again to everyone!

I dont mind a hard game but endless failure is not what I want but I feel better now.

There should be a tree to your left. Move all of your party there and put them on hold position. That way you can deal with the bandits in close quarters while having cover from their archers.

I just did this encounter last night with my L8 2hand warrior...had shale, wynne and leliana....

I never used Wynne on my 1st playthrough, but she is ridiculously good...I have her tactics set up where she is literally on auto pilot...it is fantastic...I only stop to micro manage her if someone goes down or I need to get off a group heal....

used no cc...

I don't recall this battle specifically, but "pulling" is your friend. Pick a spot before the battle, press H (or click the Hand on the PC), run in with your tank and run quickly back to your group and have everyone unload on those chasing you 1 at a time. Hopefully just a few baddies will follow so you change the odds in your favor. Press space bar to pause when you get overwhelmed and target everyone on the opponent in the order you prefer, also keeping an eye on health, pause and click on healing potions/spells, unpause, etc. Yes - what SomeGuy10 said also. These were some of the tips I didn't know about or use until late into my 1st game.

Is that the one with the Archers on the hilltop and the the only ramp up is a narrow path on the right covered in leg traps? That one was fun.

A lot comes down to party composition. If they catch you with the wrong people there will be trouble for you.

When in difficult situations where about 5 seconds of active play can result in one of your characters dying, it's best to get into a habit of pausing the game and assessing the situation.

There are many numerous strategies you can make on the fly or pre-planned, but it depends upon your group composition.

Usually when dealing with archers it's best to aggro them, then use Line of sight. By that I mean shooting one with an arrow then running round the corner, they will follow and then get your melee into them with a tank taking the adds.

If line of sight can't be achieved, then there's crowd control. I usually used a full range party, 1 archer 2 Mage and Ali as tank.

I'd usually force field two archers and crushing prison/winter blast one, the crushing prison itself stops them from shooting and the winter blast damage combined with crushing prison will kill them.

So there's 3 archers taken care of right there and your tank should pickup the rest.

If crowd control isn't your forte, then there's the AoE

Or what I'd do is hold my party back, send Ali in to archer area with shield wall up, pop potions on the way if need be, aggro all the melee while passing, tell my party to follow, get Morri to force field Ali (didn't have good enough resist gear), fireball x 2, then I'd get leliana to scatter shot right in the centre so they'd all be stunned, this would give me enough time to get in a AoE casted. I'd have one mage casting Blizzard and another Inferno, and then by the time both had been casted up fireball x 2 barrage again and then....

Watch.

Them.

BURN.

If any survived I'd have cone of cold/mind blast to take care of them as well as the damage from the rest.

It totally depends on your group composition, but make the best of your abilities. Don't be afraid of pause playing, the game is meant to be played that way when dealing with multiple numbers.

I know you resolved the situation, but there's some advice on how to play the game, think tactically and nothing will be a problem :).

Wait till you meet up with the 10 bandits in back ally. I almost gave up playing the game. As it is, I'm heading to other areas first and hoping I level up enough to try them again later.

I lucked out with the six bandits you are having problems with. I found a spot that kept some of them from coming at me all at once. IIRC, I had an archer and Morrigan on a hill overlooking the others fighting it out.

I would say some of the best spells in the game are sleep/nightmare/mindblast/horror. Also having morrigan as a healer late in the game is nice too.

A key thing I learned was setting her tactics to controller, it buys key time to get into position and take out initial targets.

Ive only played through this game once, just finished last week, started on hard though by lv 10 i upped it to nightmare cuz it was too easy. Even then it seems a bit easy. Maybe just because the OP DLC items. Or because i thoroughly went through the game. Well maybe it wasnt easy the puzzles in the game were the real challenges there are still a few I havent figured out.

The one thing I ever lowevered the difficulty for was gaxkhang. Which didnt work. I really just needed to change tactics :P
