I have the book, but haven't read much yet. The opening is cool though.

Ooooooh, boy.

I'm sensing another "Arrival" situation.

I hope I'm wrong.

If you need to buy and read a book to understand the game, it's kinda of a fail.

What does post Asunder mean compared to DA2?

Mr. Gaider has already confirmed that if any of Asunder's events affect the game, they'll be covered in-game, either through gameplay and dialogue or codex entries.

... but I really do recommend the book. I enjoyed it a lot, and if you're interested in DAIII hints before the game's released, that may be your best place to look. :)

Who said anything about needing to read the book? It's just for kicks. DAO had two books preceding it too. It's just backstory.

The mages and templars will be at war in DA3. Asunder basically showed how the war was declared.

If the game uses anything from the book should imagine it be explained in full with having to flip through it

The book most probably be good to for extra information not needed to play the game like a codec :)

Ok, thank you. That should make it about one or two years after DA2.

Well... Gaider stated that if events of the current comics were to appear in game, then they would explain them in game instead of assuming that the player read the comics. I'm guessing that the same will happen with Asunder.

I enjoyed Asunder, but I don't think reading it will be needed to enjoy the story of DA3. It'll just mean that there will be a lot more of "Oh, it's that guy!" and "Oh! I read about that!" moments for players who did read Asunder.

There's nothing that happened in Asunder that couldn't be covered with a minute or two of exposition in DA3. It's really just an in-depth exploration of how things went to sh** post-DA2.

I assume it'll be about the same as "The Stolen Throne" was to DA:O. Not necessary, but might give you an interesting perspective on a couple of characters.

It's set a few months after the events in Kirkwall, but before Cassandra questions Varric, yeah.

The book basically goes into more detail on how and why the Circle and the Templars broke away from the Chantry, and gives us an idea on the state of Orlais at the time.  Good background info, good read, but not anticipating it being required reading fro DA3

The most important thing you need to know is that at the end of Asunder, the Nevarran Accord (basically the document that merged the Chantry with the Inquisition, and thus led to the formation of the Templars, Seekers and the Circle) no longer exists.

So at the beginning of Dragon Age: Inquisition, the Seekers and Templars are no more, and the Circle doesn't exist anymore either. Instead, look for the Inquisition to be reformed, and your player character potentially as its newest recruit.

Going to make for an interesting game opening :)

And that's how it should be. If it's important it should be mentioned in the game either in the game itself through dialogue or the codex.

If you can't get the book for whatever reason but really want to know what's in it, you can read a short summary about it here on the wiki. It's not the same of course but it'll give you an idea and a few details about what's going on.

If you are using your save from previous DA series and killed Wynne(which i did in all, except one) or Shale, then you don't have to. Because in that case almost nothing of it happen.

Leliana says hi.
Seriously, Gaider and Laidlaw already said that if they feel a character's death or other such events aren't conducive to the stories they want to tell then they will retcon them.

Well, obviously. Cole is going to be in DA3 so it would have to relate to Asunder.
