Rapid indoctrination is possible.

Yes. It also turns you into a drooling zombie and burns your brain out completely with great rapidity.

I am not saying the ending was a dream, but I am certain that there is manipulation involved in the ending.

Then your certainty is misplaced, especially since Shepard isn't in range of any indoctrination equipment for... really, the entire game.

It causes the mental decay "in days or weeks". The ending is a matter of hours, if not minutes.

I seem to recall a handful of occasions were Shepard is...if you play Arrival, it isn't even subtle anymore. Shepard shares the same dream as the indoctrinated (although the images are hidden). Object Rho outright says "Struggle if you wish. Your mind will be mine." Other than that, there are numerous occasions of Shepard operating close to Reaper tech and actual Reapers.

That (brainwash) is slow-indoctrination.

Rapid-indoc. is the huskification process.

"Rapid indoctrination is possible, but causes this decay in days or weeks. Slow, patient indoctrination allows the thrall to last for months or years."

That is not, in fact, a contradiction to what I said.

How can Shepard be indoctrinated but not the player? Isn't that the whole point of IT, that the player is indoctrinated if he/she chooses Control or Synthesis? How can the player be indoctrinated if he/she is never exposed to a Reaper indoctrination signal (something that is not real, by the way)?

. The point is that they have successfully convinced the players of agreeing with the Reapers, hence indoctrinating them

Yes, but the lore states that Reaper indoctrination is a physical process. Your brain is directly affected. This never happens to the player, for obvious reasons. Therefore, the player can never be "indoctrinated" in the Reaper way.

. It's obviously not the same as Reaper indoctrination in game.  It's just what they are calling twisting the player's sense.

^ And this thread is very much a response to that conventional-wisdom.

Being made to think this, then being shown it's not quite what you think it is... that's a phenomenon that has been with us since the first ME. In that, the ending is no different than many other major decisions. It wasn't a "trick" then and it's not a trick now.
