I'm on my first playthrough on normal level and my group is:
Myself - Sword and Board
Leliana - range dps
Morrigan - Mage
Wynne - Healer
I played the game up until the broken tower with Allistair and myself as tanks with Leliana and Morrigan providing dps with no healer and usings pots. I never even bothered to set it up in my tactics for my characters to use health potions and the team was still very solid for me.
My current group works out fairly well and the only real question mark that I have in it is Leliana. I fought the dragon at the end of the urn of sacred ashes and my pc died twice, Morrigan died once and Leliana and wynne ended up putting the finishing touches on the dragon. Through poor planning on my part Korgrim was able to wipe my party twice and this silly dragon who was supposed to be so tough died on the first try.
I'd like to know from the rogue ranger experts what I'm doing wrong with Leliana or if she's going to bloom into a better dps than she is currently. She has never been out of my party since Lothering and her percentage of the party damage is only 16 and her hardest hit with a bow has only been for 39 damage. Couple with the fact that she's been injured 12 times compared to my pc's 7. My PC who is a tank has dealt 41% of my parties damage and has a hardest hit of 61. At the same time Morrigan has dealt 18% of the parties damaged with a highest hit of 85 and Wynne has contributed 8% with a high hit of 32. Alistair has contributed 11% and he was out after the broken circle and the entire urn of sacred ashes quest.
Leliana is now using a tier 5 antivan long bow, helm of long sight, qunari siege gauntlets, studded leather armor and studded leather boots. She has the longbowmans belt, and seekers circle. She has 20 str, 31 dex, and 19 cunnning. Her weapon damage is 22.6 crit % 12.4 armor pen 10. She does not have master archer yet I will pick that up when she hits level 13, She doesn't have arrow of slaying, scattershot, suppressing fire, or song of courage yet.
My PC has a heavy plate set, oather keeper, eamon's shield and 42 str, 26 dex, and 23 con. He has a damage of 48.4 crit % 2.4 and armor pen of 5. I have a better sword he could be using but the oath keeper adds 10% to healing magic.
Who is your crew?

I just finished my first run through as a Rogue Archer. Who I took was based on what I was doing.
Scout team- Alistair (if darkspawn or mages) otherwise Oghren or Sten for shield, my PC, Leli, and Zev.
Crafting runs- PC (traps), Morrigan (potions), Zev (poisons) and Leli for pickpocketing fun and banter.
Kill everything-Alistair (or Oghren), my PC, Wynne, and Zev or Morrigan depending on the baddies.
I did do the first two major quests with Alistair, Morrigan and the dog though. Love the dog.

No mages on nightmare? That must be fun....
I know this is five days old but >.>
Yeah
My first playthrough of the game was on Normal, I went Mage, and Wynne tagged along, and well, it all just felt way to easy, I barely enjoyed myself in the combat aspect of the game, because Mages could just do everything, so I decided to try going into Nightmare with an all melee krewe, and well, it worked, all you need to do is focus DPS, and use CC correctly.

I used Alistair, Morrigan, Leliana, and myself as mage/damager/healer for every battle except when i i had to have the dwarven to fight Branka...sadly i left Leliana at camp as i took Shale to bring total golems a bit more even....4 against 3 instead of 4 against 2. That worked great.

The team i uses to bring down dragons is:
Shale as a tank because he cant get the "Grab" (or I really don't know cause it has never hapned with him as tank)
Morigan as Healer, this is because i choose to kill Wynne *sigh* -.-
Leliana, Ranged dps and ranged specced to get the extra companion moastly the bear as a sec tank. Unfortanly I unlocked the "Reaver" spec and she left me so i was stuck with a Zeveran that eventualy wanted to stab me in the back in a second fight bah. (this made Sten my ranged DPS)
Me self. Warrior, ranged at Dragons else im closecombat with Starfang and well i do some heavy damage.
In dragon battles its just to get one of your party members in close combat, mostly to get rid of the "Massive Attack" that is kinda tough to get pumeled with all the time and to save Mana for the healer.

I use Leliana, Zevran, and Shale mostly. I play on casual just for fun, so I don't worry about party set up I usually just put new members in my party when they join me.

Main Character: Spirit Healer/Blood Mage - Heals, All Spirit Lines, Lightning and Glyphs.
Alistair: Champion/Templar - Sword and Board
Morrigan: Spirit Healer/Shapeshifter - Summons, All Entropy lines, Ice, and Crushing Prison
Lelianna: Bard/Duelist - She shoots arrows, misses A LOT, buffs the team, picks chests, and fights with Morrigan.

PC: Spirit healer/arcane warrior
Alistair: slash and bash
Zevran: for sneaky rogue things
Leilana: for party buffs and really bad archery
When I need an off tank I use the dog or Sten. Morrigan spends most of her time in camp, since I need blades more than 2 mages. Especially someone who complains as much as she does.

First time through as a Dalish Elven Rogue, Alistair, Morrigan, Wynne. In the begining (before the Circle) the Dog worked well, but it's obviously underpowered on higher lvls.
I'm begining three more PC's: Dwarf Noble Warrior (w'n shield), City Elf Warrior (2 hand) and a Human Mage. I've not decided which one to proceed so I can't post other parties.
But I'll surely try to maintain Shale (specially for the end of Orzamar).

Alistair, Leliana and Morrigan.
Though, the odd time I'll switch it up for Shale or Oghren. And I used Wynne through my first playthrough, because I needed the heals.

I'm on my 3rd run, almost done. My first time I was on normal mode, the last two I went straight to nightmare as normal was easy. This time I finally gave Shale a chance and discovered how awesome of a tank she is. So she's an automatic shoe-in for anywhere I can take her from now on. I take Wynne if I myself am not playing a mage. I take Leliana if I'm not a rogue. Then I usually take Alistair because, well... I am a girl irl and his coming along has a certain appeal. Unless I screw up and get the dumping scene again, and then damnit I'm running with my girl friends and the frickin' dog LOL. Actually, I really like having the dog on my team, and probably will take him more often than Alistair from now on.

I kinda don't understand why people make Morrigan a healer. When she joined the party, she didn't have any creation spells so why make her one. Maybe because they need more support for there team but one healer is enough in a party if they have the right spells, buffs and build.

Warden: healer/controller/tertiary tank (Spirit Healer/Arcane Warrior, cold primal)
Morrigan: controller/secondary healer (Spirit Healer)
Alistair: primary tank/controller (Templar/Champion)
Zevran: shatter monkey/secondary tank (Assassin/Duelist)
Honestly, my first reaction to Zevran was "Barbie with knives! And useless!" Then the shatters started happening. I've tried upping other companions' crit rates, but none of them can beat his thusfar. So any time I'm doing something that matters, I take those three.

Because Wynne is older and knows better, and therefore a windbag.
Seriously, though, I call her a secondary healer solely because Group Heal happens to be on her skillbar and she has a tactics slot devoted to it. If she's doing the healing, things have gone horribly wrong.
