Piranha is still a beast of a shotgun. It's fine with just 6 shots. The Typhoon is good too, I used on my Demolisher yesterday with the HVB and Extended Mag and it was effective.HolyAvenger wrote...
We'll just have to see what the nerf is...but I do think there should be some sort of penalty or downside to taking a Acolyte. Right now there is none.
Honestly, the only gun that's been nerfed into the ground is the Krysae (and playing with it recently, its still gold viable...just not for me). None of the other nerfs have been that bad. The Typhoon, Piranha etc are all still viable weapons used enough imo.
I have returned. Saber and N7 Valkyrie buffs CONFIRMED IN THREAD. Also, Acolyte and Stim Pack nerfs CONFIRMED IN THREAD.

As for the acolyte I'm personally betting on either a smally weight increase, some kind of damage reduction to either health, armor, shields/barriers or all 3.
Maybe even simply a reduction in the damage multiplier. It could also be an ammo reduction in either clip size or spare ammo.
There's also the possibility they'll remove the lil stun effect it has.
But I'm just speculating, I love the gun to death but even I always thought it was a lil too powerful, not OP per say but after the removal of the charge mechanic it definitely was a the side arm of choice and even after the 'nerf' (for me at least) still will be.
Either way it was stated it was a 'small' nerf, I don't think it's going to impact it that much (hopfully)

It's kinda funny.
I'm absolutely HORRIBLE with the acolyte and rarely if ever use it.
I never actually use the Turian Ghost or Havoc.
So them nerfs don't even bother me really.
Easy to stay neutral about the issue when you don't give a rats arse about it anyway.
Ditto. I remember using it once and sucking so hard with it. Shooting it felt very ackward imo.

Well, I took the HA into plat for the first time after watching your vid, with an Acolyte. The Acolyte's shield stripping, stagger, good damage all make the HA much more viable on plat. Especially the shield stripping, when combined with singularity, makes phantoms and banshees a joke.
Caster classes should get a weapon that compensates for their weakness against shields, however there should be a downside to using that weapon, be it higher weapon, lack of damage against health and armour, lack of stagger, requiring a charge-up time etc. Right now there is no disadvantage for the Acolyte.
The point wasn't that you were killing with your Acolyte. The point is that armour is weak to BEs or a flamer or similar power. If you combine the shield-stripping of an Acolyte (with its lack of major wekanesses) with a class that is strong against armour, you end up with an issue. Currently I simply can't look past the Acolyte for a lot of these classes as going to any other gun feels like I'm gimping myself. That's the issue BioWare need to address.
I'm not sure how maying a new style of play viable is a bad thing. It's not like biotics are suddenly dominating top end infiltrators and the HA is suddenly better than the GI or anything like that.
Even with the acolyte, biotics are still pretty weak vs armor. I often find myself often going for another weapon because of this.
It's specialized. If you can work with that...its good. If not, it's not very useful. I don't think that makes it overpowered.

It takes some pratice, but once you get good it becomes one of the best sidearms in the game. Maybe that's why they are nerfing it. Almost no penalty for carrying it (+20 in cooldown), useful on any build, staggers every human sized enemy except dragoons, and it's completely destroys shields and barriers.
Oh well, I've been favoring the scoprion more lately anyway.

The only reason I had the Acolyte as my sidearm was so I could deal with Phantoms more effectively and strip the shields from Primes and Praetorians if we got Collectors on Platinum.january42 wrote...

I don't find it that useful as a sidearm. In the time it takes to fire it + switch weapons, any decent gun can strip the shields from anything other than a top end boss (Banshee, Atlas, Pratorian, Prime). It's maybe worth carrying as a sidearm for those 4, but that is it.
Probably only even worth considering on platinum actually.

Once strapped a heavy barrel on it as an experiment kept my KroSoldiers CD at 200% easily. I really don't like how the gun fires. Even after they took the charge out. There's also the annoying delay to reloading it. I'm kinda OCD about keeping my guns reloaded so I reload almost after every shot.
Not being able to reload immediately with the Acolyte just pisses me off and makes me never pick the gun. Petty, but that's my number 1 reason why I didn't bother learning the slow firing thing with it. I bring a shotgun with adepts anyway.
