Today I played my first two Gold games in a really long time. After getting my ass creamed shut up, pervs repeatedly on Silver in terms of score, I was a bit nervous how I'd do back in the Gold metagame.

Okay, so first game starts, Reactor Hazard Reapers. My Raider-packing TSent is kicking the crap out of the scoreboard (at Wave 5, the last wave, by the way, I had 45K. Second place had 27K, and the others lagged behind considerably), when on Wave 5 I suddenly get gibbed by a Banshee. Literally immediately two other teammates drop dead, leaving the 4th place guy, a BF3 Soldier, to fend for himself. Given his controller ran out of batteries when he was between two Banshees... you can imagine, that did not end well.

I leave the lobby, to join a second game. Ghost Reapers. The team here was actually a fair bit better than the previous (I was still leading the scoreboard by a large margin). However, on Wave 7, a Banshee comes out of NOWHERE, teleports right on top of me, and gibs me before I could possibly react. Two teammates follow suit without using a single medi-gel to raise their worthless butts, leaving a Slayer alone (he had to Gel himself up to continue the match) to deal with two Banshees, two Ravagers, and a hoard of Marauders and Cannibals (it wasn't that long into the wave). The Slayer tries his best, and he did damn good, too... until he Charged into a Banshee and got gibbed as well. He managed to beat my score by a slim margin in the end, but the other two lagged behind us immensely.

Wanting to level up my Vanguards now before I quit for the night, I go into Silver. The team was kicking Cerberus ass. In the few instances we got into a sticky situation, the team was willing to pop a Gel to keep the momentum going. And what's more, I was the one lagging immensely. It was here and now that it hit me.

The revelation: the average Silver PUGs are a wide margin better at this game than the average Gold PUGs, yet the better ones are still playing Silver. Which, in hindsight, may actually make some sense, for they know what we know: Gold PUGs are of a much lesser quality than they used to be.

Just a funny realization that took me this long to realize.

If they're having to pop medigels in silver, they're probably not great gold players... Gold PUGs have never been high quality.

That's why I'm not a huge fan of Gold Pug's anymore, last time I did one I topped the Scoreboard with 230k+ score, when the guy in 2nd had a little under 100k..and the 3rd and 4th were just BAD!
Heh, but don't even get me started on Platinum! xD

I could actually say I agree. I can hold my own in a gold match with randoms (obviously it's easier to play with friends). But more often, when I'm leveling my characters I stick to silver. It has a much higher success rate (almost guaranteed). And I feel confident that even my level 7 or 8 can fight back.
So based on my experience of playing Silver a lot more than Gold, yes, Silver players tend to be better.

If you want entertainment, drop into a bronze match. I was like 7k short of a premium spectre pack. Joined wave 4 as Kroguard (I wanted to get through it fast, forgive me) and was top by round 6.

Things got exceptionally hairy, I can't really blame them for having to do so. Don't forget that people who play Silver generally have low-level characters, and that only the elite can do a Lv.1 Gold/Plat run.

And while we're here... elitist much?

Ah, Bronze... I need to play one of those sometime. I miss how fun slaughtering everything can be.

Yes.

Silver is where the casual players are and quite frankly those who are not into torturing themselves with absurd challenges or horrible teammates. It's fun, but if you're able to carry others through Gold matches, Platinum becomes your Gold and Gold becomes your Silver.

Some of the Silver players I've met though, are more than Gold-capable. I honestly think they're lagging behind in Silver because of the bad PUGlicity ("PUG publicity") of Gold players. They don't want to waste consumables for nothing. And after tonight's stunt, I can't blame them.

Played several U/U/G games with randoms last night. And the general consensus that I got was players are going to levels far above there skill and running out of consumables.

Actually messaged a player last night who went down repeatedly, why he would never get up. This was his response...."I usually run Platinum and dipped down to Gold because I had no medigels!"

So, I looked up his Manifest and he had just a few Uncommons even up to level 5. But, the main problem is I think these players are looking for the quick buck because there are so many unlocks in the store these days.

um...huh?

silver...easier than gold. less stressful...dont have to go in with your A game to succeed.

gold...higher stress...everyone has to be on it. one person can make or break the match.

and random is as random does...regardless of difficulty.

I'm aware of the difference in difficulty. I stake my claim in spite of that variable. These guys, if they were playing Gold, would be better than the people who play Gold. But they play Silver.

only way to tell if that were indeed true....play gold with them.

thats funny seeing as im the opposite way. i roll silver when i dont want to use consumables or gels. i'd normally let myself bleed out if no one coms, thinking, nah they'll handle it. whereas on gold i always gel. probs why i have 255 of everything but gels, which i currently have 5 of :/

It does seem the higher the difficulty the worse the players.

I was in a bronze match today since I just promoted a character and wanted to work on a weapon challenge from a common weapon. Every lobby I was in was 1000+ N7 level 20 characters and the matches were extremely short. I found it extremely difficult to find anything to kill.

I finally leveled up my character enough to move up to silver. I started topping the scoreboard again, and found myself earning revive medals match after match.

Get my character up to 20 and played a few Gold matches. I have 160K in score and the rest of the lobby didn't even break 50K. And I found myself carrying the teams wave 6 through extraction.

It's pathetic really. I thought the gene pool was supposed to get better with the higher difficulties, but I guess not.

Edit: and the silver and gold lobbies didn't have anyone with an N7 over 200, and one guy in the gold lobby was an N7 45 .

I play silver when I feel stingy and don't want to use equipment.

I'm below 20 mods in a few of my favorite ones, and that scares me...

I'm also the kind of person that gets below 200 rockets or gells and freaks out and buys way too many JEPs to fix it...

Me neither. I was just trying to point out that i'm having the same problem. I can't find any decent Platinum PUGs and thus i play only Gold. You know, because i'm prettay prettay good and special and all that.

If by better, you mean using gels more often, then ya, the average silver pugger is way better than the gold one.

Some ****** players are still not buying Jumbos to stock on consumables, using all their money on PSPs and going to Gold and Platinum, dying instantly, then bleeding out. Lack of common sense is what makes Gold PUGs a nightmare.

I'm addictive to Gold, I'll admit, and only play Silver when I need to level up a character. Still, even if you're very experienced and all, there's always the human factor: Stupidity.
Sometimes, someone acts stupid and breaks the whole battle. I try to mend it though.

If anyone needs help in Gold or something, I'm the guy. I always help out new players, even if a bit low on level or weapons.

I played tons of silver matches after my friends stopped playing purely because an overwhelming majority of players are really bad at this game. Screwing around on silver > carrying teams through gold.

Silver: Leveling characters/playing the game in general is none of my friends are on.
Gold: Only play when friends are on, I really dislike carrying/having to solo Gold games/PUG's so meh..
Plat: See Gold.

But yeah, Gold PUG's can be an absolute nightmare at times, while Silver's are generally just.. Yeah, go-easy and leveling generally. But yuh... Although I still hold a good, at least, 40-55% of Silver PUG's are by far better then Gold PUG's.
Or, if two of my friends are on we'll get a single random for Gold runs but, eh, that's about it. We don't get two randoms unless another friend of mine is on.

If you are willing to go 100%: full equipment, using gels and rockets and trying to communicate, people will step up their own game. Cynicism and optimism are both contagious.

That being said, if you want to pug gold with any success rate, you should be prepared to solo a couple of rounds.

I used to think this, until I met some very good Gold players and awful Silver ones.

But, nowadays I primarily play Gold/Platinum with friends. Well, when I'm playing ME3, that is.
