I could actually say I agree. I can hold my own in a gold match with randoms (obviously it's easier to play with friends). But more often, when I'm leveling my characters I stick to silver. It has a much higher success rate (almost guaranteed). And I feel confident that even my level 7 or 8 can fight back.
So based on my experience of playing Silver a lot more than Gold, yes, Silver players tend to be better.

If you want entertainment, drop into a bronze match. I was like 7k short of a premium spectre pack. Joined wave 4 as Kroguard (I wanted to get through it fast, forgive me) and was top by round 6.

Ah, Bronze... I need to play one of those sometime. I miss how fun slaughtering everything can be.

Slaughtering everything is fun. Its just that bronze has a significant lack of things to slaughter.

I could've easily solo'd a few rounds, it was the surprise mofuggin' Banshees that came out of nowhere to sync-kill me that kept me from doing so.

Just speaking in general, not assuming you aren't prepared to solo some gold.  I like CQC and get grabbed all the damn time, so feel your pain.

I was playing good last night and had a guy say "it's been awhile since I have seen a competent sniper." He was talking to me as I was the only sniper. I was using my BW II to take down the bigger enemies then going from there and only using my smg as a "oh **** gun"

I was also using only damage mods.
I hate escort missions >:{

After 360 hours of MP. I have finally figured out when a Banshee can and can't grab you. so I don't have that problem anymore. :D

Thanks Xcal.. I would still be clueless if it weren't for your videos.. lol

You're on silver and your team does good you say. Congrats? Funny how you getting sync killed two games in a row "suddenly" by the loudest enemy in the game doesn't raise any flags.

I play silver when I feel stingy and don't want to use equipment.

I'm below 20 mods in a few of my favorite ones, and that scares me...

I'm also the kind of person that gets below 200 rockets or gells and freaks out and buys way too many JEPs to fix it...

I do the same thing with Gels and Rockets, I dip below 230 and i start get worried.  Alot of time when I play golds I end up buying a JEP every game or 2 just so I stay at 255.  Waste of credits but it makes me feel better.

I think part of it is a lot of ppl are still working on challenges. I know I've been using weird gun and class combos to get them done but I play with friends 90% of the time. My friends and I are all working on them so we excuse issues with ppl having a hard time playing a kit or using a weapon they're terrible at or just have no experience with. My guess is you are finding ppl playing on silver because they aren't confident enough in their skills with a kit or weapon or they just want to get the challenges done that much faster.

I use to pug alot of gold matches before the challenge system came out, between collectors and wanting to play characters im not particularly thrilled about playing I just stick to silvers.

I get the itch to take a soldier or infiltrator into golds every once in a while then get paired with guys that are using really bad lay outs and think to myself "back to the challenge grind, atleast I know I will get paid and not have to play through all my consumables" it is really amazing how many players skimp out on using consumables in pug groups. I will admit I wont gel before wave 6(unless I die early on for stupid reason) but after that I have no problem making sure Im alive to get through the waves.

I would call people out but my mic doesnt work reliably and its not worth the headache.

Quite the opposite is true for me. I've had good Gold PuGs and terrible Silvers lately.

I'm the same way, but on the same note. I will give someone the opportunity to revive me. I hate it when I'm standing next to someone who goes down and they use a gel. Why waste a gel when I'm standing right next to you?  You may need that gel in the later rounds and you'll be screwed.

I can do well enough in gold, but I prefer silver. I don't like the stress in gold games, and in silver, even if I have lackluster teammates, I can usually pull through just relying on the other players as decoys.

If they're having to pop medigels in silver, they're probably not great gold players... Gold PUGs have never been high quality.

They don't have to be great gold players. I'm fine in Gold, and I still go down in Silver matches sometimes.

The main difference is this; for whatever reason, Silver players seem to be more willing to use equipment and gear to get through a match than Gold players. By and large, it seems like Gold PUGs hop from match to match trying to find teams that will carry them so that they can get more credits. Or that they don't expect to actually win. The attitude of silver players is much better than that of gold players on Xbox Live.

I recommend playing with a friend or two when playing with Gold PUGs. You are going to see a lot of strange and low level load outs that will puzzle you. Recently, I have had played with a lot more randoms that have to be carried on Gold than before Retaliation hit. I suspect quite a few were former FBWGG farmers.

I agree. Actually I've been playing bronze recently for some of the 200 wave challenges. 10 waves in 10 minutes on bronze is better than the remote possibility of reaching wave 10 after clutching a wave or two in a 30 minute gold PuG. There are some exeptions of course but they're few and far between. <_<

But hey, if any Xbox players want to team up for a decent gold/plat game I'm down.

Gold pugs are extremely hard to judge, you can go from having a halfway decent group, to winding up with a pack of morons that don't understand what cover is, regardless of consumables and gear usage. But from what I've seen in a few escapades in silver and below, I can understand where a lot of the bad habits you normally see in a gold pug develop. I also think a lot of what happens in game has to do with a persons understanding of the character they are playing, knowing the weaknesses and strengths etc, but a lot of it just comes down to the player and their gaming habits.

I actually pointed out a similar trend on PS3 some time back. I can carry a bad PUG group through Gold, but it frustrates me to no end, so much so that if the PS3 Alliance Hazard Force isn't active when I play, I just do silver.

That's when I made the same realisation as you. Holy crap, 90% of Gold PUGers suck, yet almost every silver lobby knows exactly what they're doing. I'm not the only skilled player dropping to Silver when playing without a party. I have been randomly dropped into silver lobbies with Alliance Hazard Force members. Players with whom I have destroyed Platinum lobbies.

My theory? It's a combination of the diminishing playerbase (PS3 has always had a much smaller ME3 base than others), the new challenge system, and FBWGG farmers losing their map.

In other words, the unskilled players (no offense) who used to sit in FBW all day, rather than go back to silver after losing FBWGG, just dispersed into the rest of the Gold lobbies, so pros just do Silver for challenges when they can't party up

It's not just 360 players.  I see the same thing on PS3 all the time.

I think the mentality often is the same as mine.  Sure, I get fewer credits for playing Silver games - but those credits aren't replacing equipment that I used for the most part, because I very rarely need to use equipment.  Consumables and mods mostly stay untouched.  I don't have to be ready at a moment's notice to solo a round and make up for the fact that people got grabbed/stabbed/slammed/pincered/yougettheidea.

In Silver, I'm on autopilot.  I can coast and clear a match in 15, sometimes 20 if it's rough.  On Gold I've had matches go into the 35-40 minute territory.  I quit playing Gold PUGs right after Earth came out for this reason.  I dipped my toe into Gold a few times, but I joined a group of PS3 players for reliable Gold teammates.  Consumables get used, sometimes, but for the most part it feels as easy as Silver when you've got good teammates.

I can't speak for the people in PUGs with level 10 characters and no consumables.  I don't know what their motivation is because I've never asked.  I rarely see the same name twice in Gold PUGs.  Are they just trying it out?  Are they curious about it, or maybe trying to grind out Nomad?  Who knows.

I know for now, I'm good enough to play Gold consistently and be a great teammate.  But I only PUG Silver.

I'm
inclined to agree. I know Silver is easier, and therefore it's easier
to excel at it, but it seems to me that Silver players control
spawns, use weapons and powers, move through maps, and lock down
objectives better. When I go Gold, either we wipe miserably on Wave 8
or 9, or this happens:

Image IPB
I'm
not that skilled, ya'll. Just saying, it seems like I wind up
carrying Gold PUGs to victory, or we fail, and I almost get carried
on Silver.
EDIT:
My bad for the names, forgot to edit them in the image.

Only problem with that for me is that I mostly play at night when my wife is sleeping, and can't use my mic.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head for why I'm normally on Silver. Gold, especially with PUGs is very stressful, usually when I get on it's after a long day and I just want to do some "blastin' and relaxin'" as it were. Unless I've got a full group of friends on I won't bother with Gold, otherwise we just tend to fill the holes with randoms on silver or just duo/trio silver.

I know what you mean Dullahan, I have played more Silver than any other difficulty. Of my 600ish matches I would say at least 300 would be Silver.

The main reason I have found is you can literally use ANY class and weapon and still be effective, and you can run level 1 characters most of the time once you have a decent manifest and make up the short fall with gear and weapons (cooldown doesn't matter when you have no skills! )

When I feel like playing gold, which mainly comes from the desire to max all rare items in my manifest or when I have a character on 20 and plenty of the consumables to make them perform on Gold. I have found I am now a lobby eliteist, I will leave lobbies based on a quick scan of the players classes, levels, weapons and consumables.

I have to agree with others in this thread, it appears to be players who likely haven't even hit the 100H mark (I feel odd making this sound like a trivial time investment) trying desperately to put some beef behind their manifest but lacking the knowledge to make it work in Gold. I've pointed people toward the Bioware forums or given constructive advice where possible, half the time they don't have a mic and recently I've gone back to not running a mic myself, but if they come here and have a hunt for even a little bit of info that is how I transitioned from being someone who really could not deal with Gold to someone who can work with a decent PUG team and clear it in sub 20 minutes.

I mainly do UUG's, but since the whole "Unlock All The Things!!1" challenges/banners bug has hit me, I've mainly been grinding on Silver and Bronze. Ensures I get my 10 waves per match...

When I'm done with the waves challenges (damn you, Commando banner), ill be taking myself back to Gold.

1) Why are you so concerned about score?
2) Silver is incredibly easy compared to Gold., the jump in difficulty is pretty steep and the guys you played with will often be interchangeable with Silver guys.
3) Boo.

The revelation: the average Silver PUGs are a wide margin better at this game than the average Gold PUGs, yet the better ones are still playing Silver. Which, in hindsight, may actually make some sense, for they know what we know: Gold PUGs are of a much lesser quality than they used to be.

Just a funny realization that took me this long to realize.

I have to disagree with this. As much as I hate to be this guy, but I think this revelation only applies to gold matches that don't filter out potentialy bad players. Have you ever Booted players who are suspected to be liabilities? ( player who should still be in silver matches or even bronze) Its a whole new playing field. The moment you boot or simply avoid gold/plat lobbies with obvious inexperienced players, you wont ever see mission failure.

No epeen intended... inexperienced as in... using all lv 1 mods(you dont even need mods on gold, but thats if you have high lv weapons or simply using flamer on reapers), not using full at least lv 14 character, not using high lv weapons etc etc.
