It is a little disenchanting that I find myself soloing gold matches roughly half the time. And pugs almost always fail if I manage to get sync killed (we've all had a banshee sneak teleport on us before). That's why I tend not to play classes I'm not particularly good at on gold+ (generally running SI, GI, GE, DA, DV, or a Fury). I run other classes when I feel like I'm running with a consistent and good pug, because there are just a ton of classes I'm not great at holding out all on my lonesome with.

People who are in Silver usually understand the game, that is why they chose the lower option until they felt they had the nerve and skill to move into the higher difficulty. Those in gold probably tried platinum, had no luck getting carried and decided to try gold. They probably got carried through the game and thought this is the difficulty for me. I have had terrible games today, some people genuinely try and other just stay where they drop, I was unable to carry as a volus so lots of failures today.

It does seem the higher the difficulty the worse the players.

I was in a bronze match today since I just promoted a character and wanted to work on a weapon challenge from a common weapon. Every lobby I was in was 1000+ N7 level 20 characters and the matches were extremely short. I found it extremely difficult to find anything to kill.

I finally leveled up my character enough to move up to silver. I started topping the scoreboard again, and found myself earning revive medals match after match.

Get my character up to 20 and played a few Gold matches. I have 160K in score and the rest of the lobby didn't even break 50K. And I found mytself carrying the teams wave 6 through extraction.

It's pathetic really. I thought the gene pool was supposed to get better with the higher difficulties, but I guess not.

Edit: and the silver and gold lobbies didn't have anyone with an N7 over 200, and one guy in the gold lobby was an N7 45 .

I play only on the 360,have an N7 >200 and never play higher than Silver (personal choice).

I have trouble getting revive medals because people don't die enough.

Its strange that I seem to have a different perspective of the 360 online ME3 community to you but then I don't try to come across as an eliteist.

Personally, I find your attitude pathetic and not the other people I play with.

My GT is William YZF R1.

Those familiar with psychology may recall "social loafing" as the reason for being "carried".  I'm getting pretty tired of uber-elitists thinking they carry everyone. The fact is: due to social loafing a well balanced (not extremely good) team may produce faster times more freuquently, than if there is an uber-elitist present.

I use to pug alot of gold matches before the challenge system came out, between collectors and wanting to play characters im not particularly thrilled about playing I just stick to silvers.

I get the itch to take a soldier or infiltrator into golds every once in a while then get paired with guys that are using really bad lay outs and think to myself "back to the challenge grind, atleast I know I will get paid and not have to play through all my consumables" it is really amazing how many players skimp out on using consumables in pug groups. I will admit I wont gel before wave 6(unless I die early on for stupid reason) but after that I have no problem making sure Im alive to get through the waves.

I would call people out but my mic doesnt work reliably and its not worth the headache.

I'm the same way, but on the same note. I will give someone the opportunity to revive me. I hate it when I'm standing next to someone who goes down and they use a gel. Why waste a gel when I'm standing right next to you?  You may need that gel in the later rounds and you'll be screwed.

The only time I will insta pop up is if I died to something and want revenge (or they are going to stomp me).  MY point is that early levels I will mash the A button until I bleed out and if I dont get revived I go grab a drink or something until the next round starts.  If its 6+ i mash A and then pop if no one makes it to me

I mainly play silver because it's not easy, it's not hard, it's pretty short, decent money, and a nice variety of enemies for the challenges. It's the perfect thing to play on. I'll only do gold if I want more of a challenge, and I'll only do plat if I have some friends that want to do it and are good enough to do it.

Oh Dullahan.... Platinum pugs are way better....lol Ok I was kidding. I play Platinum pugs maybe once or twice a week and ................................its questionable I tell you.

I do understand you though. When I was playing silver "back in the day" ;) I did notice the difference in the player types. From Gold up you find players who mostly just go for score so they dont communicate so as to not give away their kills, do not do the objectives or kick you out for having a build they dont understand or agree with.

Silver is somewhat different but when I was playing it at one point I still get some of the same treatment I would get on Gold. I guess it all depends on the lobbies.

I have to be honest with you its kind of cool playing pugs on the PS3 now with my new manifest and having Silver players comment on my build and how I may want to change my character to a Turian Ghost or something instead of a Human Adept. lol. Fun times. I just say things like...well...I like this guy I promise you I can do ok with him. Then....well....they tend to keep me in their lobbies after the first game. So far Silver has been ok but I think you will find the same types of players in all difficulties mostly except for maybe Bronze.

Funny, I remember back when everyone complained about how silver was harder than gold because of the crappy teammates.

Today I played my first two Gold games in a really long time. After getting my ass creamed shut up, pervs repeatedly on Silver in terms of score, I was a bit nervous how I'd do back in the Gold metagame.

Okay, so first game starts, Reactor Hazard Reapers. My Raider-packing TSent is kicking the crap out of the scoreboard (at Wave 5, the last wave, by the way, I had 45K. Second place had 27K, and the others lagged behind considerably), when on Wave 5 I suddenly get gibbed by a Banshee. Literally immediately two other teammates drop dead, leaving the 4th place guy, a BF3 Soldier, to fend for himself. Given his controller ran out of batteries when he was between two Banshees... you can imagine, that did not end well.

I leave the lobby, to join a second game. Ghost Reapers. The team here was actually a fair bit better than the previous (I was still leading the scoreboard by a large margin). However, on Wave 7, a Banshee comes out of NOWHERE, teleports right on top of me, and gibs me before I could possibly react. Two teammates follow suit without using a single medi-gel to raise their worthless butts, leaving a Slayer alone (he had to Gel himself up to continue the match) to deal with two Banshees, two Ravagers, and a hoard of Marauders and Cannibals (it wasn't that long into the wave). The Slayer tries his best, and he did damn good, too... until he Charged into a Banshee and got gibbed as well. He managed to beat my score by a slim margin in the end, but the other two lagged behind us immensely.

Wanting to level up my Vanguards now before I quit for the night, I go into Silver. The team was kicking Cerberus ass. In the few instances we got into a sticky situation, the team was willing to pop a Gel to keep the momentum going. And what's more, I was the one lagging immensely. It was here and now that it hit me.

The revelation: the average Silver PUGs are a wide margin better at this game than the average Gold PUGs, yet the better ones are still playing Silver. Which, in hindsight, may actually make some sense, for they know what we know: Gold PUGs are of a much lesser quality than they used to be.

Just a funny realization that took me this long to realize.

This is why I mainly play Silver

If you simply boot people who don't want to use ammo/amps/etc on gold from your lobbies, you'll get a much cooperative and fun game experience.  By only playing with people who are suitably invested in the game via consumables, you end up avoiding almost all the problems you mentioned.  People use rockets and medigels when necessary instead of relying on others to do so and actually work together on objective waves instead of lone wol****g it.  It's not perfect but it weeds out a surprising percentage of the idiots, misers, and griefers.

This is actually something I noticed a while ago myself, and recently being sick of gold I decided to try and make the leap to plat.
oddly outside of missile glitchers most the randoms seem to be of much higher quality. I really thought it was going to be a lot harder then it is.
Not to say I never get crap randoms that are just basically leeching, because I do.

But on the whole the experience thus far has been quite enjoyable. And even more oddly I thought doing gold would get easier (like going from gold to silver) because I have friends that still do gold because they're not quite ready for plat.
But actually I find I tend to use more consumables on gold and the whole situation is more stressful.

I can handle myself in Gold easily but I play Silver with randoms more often because success rate is much higher and I just like to chill most nights. Only nights I feel really lucky with randoms will I do gold unknown unknown.

The best successful unknown unknown Gold I've had so far was a few nights ago with collectors on Vancouver. It was a glorious match to see completed with a well coordinated team of randoms.

ive been playing silver to grind challenges (almost done, thank god). you can usually tell the outcome of an xbox match by the lobby (player levels and loadouts). silver v collectors with sub 100 n7s is always bad news waiting to happen.

that being said my pugs (thats all i play) gold or silver are typically very good. every now and then you can catch a whole group with mics and wreck 3 or 4 games in a row.

In the last 30 gold games (ALL of which Pugs) my team managed to extract every time.

The secret? I leave lobbies where the players don't look strong. Ideally you want a decent setup (acolyte+adept= great, Javelin+vanguard = bad) with lots of consumables used and a decent n7/Banner/challenge points rating.

under NO circumstances should you ready up when a player in the lobby is not even using 2 attachments on his weapon. At gold thats an instant kick, and if noone else boots him just leave the lobby. Trust me, things are a lot less painful this way.

This process can mean it takes me 10 min to find a game. But. it does mean when I do play I get a decent game.

To OP: You didnt mention anything about the Gold pugs you were playing with. If you didn't quit lobbies at least 2-3 times chances are you were playing in a gold game with trash players (gold does seem to attract lots of Destroyers with lvl III avengers, for some reason).

Personally I love Silver. I can play Gold and Platinum easily enough, but I think they are over rated. Most PUGs I play with, as has been stated, are only there to grab credits. Which is all well and good, but they should still be able to play the damn game. Silver, I find is way more fun and you can get away with alot. Much more enjoyable, and thats all I want out of the game. I have no need for credits, other than for consumables, so I just play Silver mostly. Saves on a ton of consumables and I think the players are much more capable than they realize.

Huh? That hasn't been my experience. I always felt Gold was where you'd find a lot of players who want to play the game casually with a bit of challenge, minus the hassle and tedium of Platinum. Course those players are going to be mix of good and bad.

I wouldn't want to play Silver casually, even for challenges (I stick to Gold for that). I feel that Silver is a good place to learn new characters and promote a bit. I hate promoting and am familiar enough with the game that I would feel as though I'm spoiling the party were I to continuously play Silver instead.

I stick to silver because with reading the BSN as much as I do, I figure my gear probably isn't up to Gold standard, and because whilst I can do pretty well in a silver pug, regardless of how good they are, I'm just not confident enough to want to jump into a gold match with a pug and potentially screw up someones game because I'm out of my depth... don't have enough friends to put together a team for a couple of test matches to if I can manage, so I live in self imposed exile to being what I feel is a reasonable/possibly good, silver player.

Would guess that I'm probably not the only silver player in this boat tbh.

Yeah with friends, sure. Its easy mode playing Gold. Just finding decent lobbies between Gold and Platinum is the chore. Then if they arent that great, I hate grinding wave after wave for these dweebs who have no gel or consumables.

I know there will be the occasional gold game that might be a bit of a chore, but for the most part this has not been my experience. I play almost exclusively in PUG gold games and I've been doing it for quite a while, and I can't remember the last time a mission was failed. This is including all the games I've played with wonky character and weapons loadouts for the different challenges.
