Don't bring back things that were a result of the game being rushed, don't do a deconstruction of an RPG hero again, and don't write bisexual characters who view relationships with men and women differently.

Got it.

Phew am I glad the iconic companion looks, paraphrases, and voiced dialogue survived Neoseeker's scrutiny.  I suppose those issues are settled now.

Most of those I can see not being in Dragon Age 3 such as points one and two, but I do have a problem with their third fix. That isn't a problem with the game itself those were both by design and it was posted here that at one point Hawke's mother could survive, but it was changed with a purpose. The forth point is a problem when needing to use the "Holy Trinity" for you need a Tank, Healer, and Rogue and that was even a problem in Origins, there was just the ability to choose between two of each. The fifth point is understandable (I much preferred how relationships were handled in Mass Effect 3), but it was really only a problem if you had multiple games for I had a friend that looked at me like I was from outer space when I was telling him about the relationships, I just don't want to feel like my party is throwing themselves at me again.

Man, I gotta say, I agree with pretty much everything she wrote. These issues were really the biggest in DA2.

While I agree with them, these aren't exactly new complaints.

I've read about the recycled areas enough for the rest of my life.

I don't agree with the bisexuality thing. I didn't mind that. And I thought not much changed in the romance with Hawke's gender. Shouldn't that be more the case? Now most of the difference seemed to be "you're a handsome man, Hawke" or "you're a beautiful woman, Hawke".

I disagree with eveything in this article apart from the recycled areas, and I cut Bioware a lot of slack there seeing as they had only, what, an 11 month development cycle?

I'm not even going to touch on what she said about the bisexual love interests other than that I'd really like people to stop making assumptions of what bisexual people are like and how we relate to people of either gender.

First and second point are pretty much the same issue, which have disscussed allready again and again and again.
third point, I just don't agree. He doesn't ask for more control of the PC fate, but for more control of the squadies fates and decisions. This isn't sims. An omnipotent and omniscient protagonist is boring thing. I say the more independent the NPC's get, the better!
fourth point I strongly agree, even if he got derailed about not letting you equip companions with armor which I also didn't like. Anders and aveline were a "must have" companions, cause he was the only healer and she was the only tank, leaving the last spot to be filled with a rogue... I hated how many restrictions and limitations they put on us in DA2, especialy with the stats: every class had just two "dump stats" and the rest were pretty redundant... meaning 4 of your 6 attributes were just there for show. they weren't completly useless (raising your def, hp, stamina, attack, crit chanceand damage), but you were penalised for no investing in your two main stats by being restricted from using high end gear.

not going to touch the fifth point, because that disscussion never ends well and ususally results in thread locking...

I noticed a trend in bioware development cycles in regards to trilogies: You start of with a new game, not completely sure if it will even be successful, so you're being cautious with implementation of new ideas. End result: a not-too-original game, but of high quality and therefore successful.
Next you have a sequel. More confident in their product, bioware "goes crazy" and tries to change almost everything in the gameplay department, including adding things they were too afraid to add in the original in the fear of how they would've been recieved. End result: An innovative and high quality game, and naturally successful. But they recieve alot of complaints about changing too much from the original (mind you, not neccessarily meaning that those are for the worse).
Finaly you have the last game of the trilogy. Bioware listens to the fans feedback by combining the best features from both predeccessors and removing the most complained about features. The result is a game that by istelf is easily the game of the year. But, when it has to face the impossible expectations created by it's prequels encounters outrage...

Nobody likes endings. If you liked the ending, than you never realy liked it to begin with. (the one exception being "the shawshank redemption")

Predictions towards DA3:
1. it's gonna be a great game.
2. Alot of people gonna hate it...

No point in fighting it. That just how the internet works. That's why people think "empire" was better than "return".

Is the Dragon Age series a trilogy? I was under the impression that it wasn't.

It's not, and Solmanian's post makes no sense.

The Dragon Age series isn't a trilogy.

At least that's one question with an expiration date.

Lydia wants a videogame's world to completely revolve around her decisions alone. Something that's easily doable in text-based RPGs because god forbid someone demands more content that won't fit on an extra disc that'll cost a company another few million dollars.

Would you believe I was at a con panel hosted by Mark Meer about Mass Effect vs Dragon Age and one of the two speakers would do nothing but rage on and on and on about DA2 for a good chunk of it? This article is exactly that. Not even constructive at all.

I believe Bioware has a good idea now about the do's and don't's for the next installment...

Let us just see what they'll show us next year. I also read that Mike Laidlaw would like to show more via livestream sessions..

But hey, loved both games, so I'm not too worried about it;)

Can't say I ever felt *that* restricted as far as companions go -- I've run around without aVeline (tank) plenty of times, I've frequently left out rogues (one of my favourite party makeups in my first playthrough was Fenris, Anders, Merrill and my mage Hawke) and I do leave anders out if I'd rather have someone else with me, even if I don't play a mage myself. Same goes for Origins, actually -- I rarely have a tank, sometimes I don't take Morrigan with me into the Deep Roads (and never take Wynne anywhere). I do usually have a rogue though, but I have left them out when in the Deep Roads as well.

My only comment to five is that I agree with Fox In The Box.

What I get from that article is make Dragon Age 3 more like Origins and less like DA2, and I agree.

Nothing new under the sun in this article. Same old complaints. Only one I agree with and that is the recycled environments. Everything else is a matter of personal taste.

As far as needing a particular class or needing Anders or Aveline in the party that is baloney. I had many different makeups in the party for my playthroughs of DA 2. Hand parties that included neither Aveline nor Anders. Did not use haste when Anders was in the party.

Anytime someone says that the Holy Trinty (Tank, Rogue and Mage) is necessary is when I stop reading. In my experience that is not the case. I actually used Merrill far more than I ever used Anders. In fact my favorite party was Hawke as rogue along with Varric, Isabela and Merrill.

I do not agree with the writer. I want less DAO and more creativity using some of the ideas from DA 2.

'After that, you're basically forced to choose between him or Sebastian (assuming you got the DLC), a character bought and paid for -- with money.'

She bought the standard edition with socks?

The sad thing about that article: it's just the tip of the iceberg.

I'm not in a position to say whether certain features of DA2 were "mistakes," deliberate design choices or something that suffered due to the expedited production schedule, however, the following would be my wishlist of changes for DA3:

1. More interesting side quests. There were too many quests in DA2 which consisted of finding some random object in a dungeon, then 10 hours later some random NPC suddenly gives you gold, and you have no idea why. If it is too expensive to incorporate voiced dialogue for a legit quest giver, at least put quests up on something like the Chanter's Board, where we actually receive a quest and then complete it, instead of receiving gold from random NPCs with no rhyme or reason.

2. Instead of a useless "junk" item category, allow players to use miscellaneous items found in the world like Demonic Ochre and moth eaten scarves, etc., for crafting. I'd love to see a rich crafting system that rewards players for exploration and enhances the replay value by adding more viable playing styles to the game.

3. Options for roleplaying a greater variety of characters. Even though the PC will be human, there are more options beside simply Mage, Warrior, Rogue. How about allowing players to associate with different factions in the game, for example, a rebel mage who is allied with apostates, or an escaped Tevinter slave. A noble character from a wealthy background or a ruffian pickpocket from an Orlesian slum.

4. Branching path quests involving different factions in Orlais.

5. Random encounter system, perhaps triggers encounters when fast traveling or whenever the player explores a large area map.

6. More varied environments

7. If there will be randomized loot drops, please no Fire Staff with +20% Frost, or Frost Staff with +20% Fire, etc.

Same.  I'd like the dev team to try more new writing approaches in DA3, not fewer.   I really liked DA2, I just thought it was rough around the edges and unpolished.  That doesn't devalue the whole idea behind a different narrative approach, it just means it needed more love and time.

And on her last point:   Every time this gets brought up, the writers point out that it's not "for the sake of fan service."  It's fairness for the players without creating a ton of additional work for the developers.  Is that honestly so difficult of a concept to grasp?

Honestly why can't a character be straight in one play through and gay in another? They only put that option in there so everyone feels included. If you are so upset about characters being bisexual (Which is just a lol thing to be upset about to begin with) then just DONT PLAY THEM!
So easy.

I agree they should have a setting you pick before you play that makes you pick the sexual orientation of your character, now I'm not saying all the other characters should be gay or straight, but they should recognize what you are.
