BioWare Announces First Official Expansion Pack to the Critically Acclaimed Dragon Age: Origins
"Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening" to Take Fans to the Land of
Amaranthine With New Party Members, Spells, Abilities and More in March
2010

EDMONTON, Alberta, Jan 05, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Leading video game developer BioWare™, a division of Electronic Arts
Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS), announced today Dragon Age™: Origins -
Awakening
, the first official expansion pack to Dragon
Age: Origins,
the recent recipient of Spike TV's Best RPG and PC
Game of 2009, IGN's Best RPG of 2009 and CNN.com's Best RPG of 2009. Dragon
Age: Origins
- Awakening will be available for the Xbox 360®
videogame and entertainment system, the PlayStation®3 computer
entertainment system and PC on March 16, 2010.
Designed and written by the same team that brought you Dragon Age:
Origins,
the Awakening expansion pack offers a brand new area
of the world to explore known as Amaranthine, featuring an epic story
that will allow players to unravel the secrets of the darkspawn - and
their true motivations! Players will face a range of horrific and
terrifying creatures including an evolved, intelligent breed of
darkspawn and other menacing creatures such as the Inferno Golem and
Spectral Dragon. Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening provides
exciting new ways for players to customize their heroes and party,
including the ability to re-spec their character attributes, allowing
even greater customization and replayability. Featuring an increased
level cap, new spells, abilities, specializations and items, plus five
all-new party members, players can continue their adventures from Dragon
Age: Origins,
or begin with a brand new character.
"Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening shows BioWare's
commitment to our fans by delivering new story-driven experiences which
enrich the dark heroic fantasy universe our fans have come to know and
love," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group,
EA, and Co-Founder, BioWare. "The vibrant worldwide community of Dragon
Age
fans will relish uncovering the secret motivations of the
darkspawn, revealing how the darkspawn continue to infest the world
despite the defeat of the Archdemon."
Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening, BioWare's next thread in
the Dragon Age: Originstapestry, occurs following the
events of Dragon Age: Origins and puts players into the role of a
Grey Warden Commander entrusted with rebuilding the order of Grey
Wardens. In addition to rebuilding the ranks of the Grey Wardens, you
will be tasked with uncovering the mystery of how the darkspawn survive
after the slaying of the Archdemon. How players choose to rebuild their
order, resolve the conflict with the mysterious "Architect," and
determine the fate of the darkspawn are just some of the many intriguing
moral choices that will shape each player's heroic journey. Players will
be able to import their character from Dragon Age: Origins or
start out as a new Grey Warden from the neighboring land of Orlais.
Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening will be released March 16,
2010 worldwide on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 console and PC. Dragon
Age: Origins
- Awakening will be available for $39.99 on PC,
Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles in North America and will require Dragon
Age: Origins
to play. Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening is
rated M by the ESRB and 18+ by PEGI.

I know I'm defiantly buying this. I'm very glad there will be an expansion that works regardless of the player's choices in the first game. Kind of silly I'm most excited for the Architect. :P I can't wait for more information!

I have a few questions

What if you sacraficed at the end of DAO? But you want to continue using that origin? are you just SOL.. or will you awaken in the fade perhaps?

And what about items and weapons and gold for those continuing from their DOA game? do you keep what you had? does that include what was in the storage chest for those of us with Warden's Keep?

From what the news says it's seeming like the Awakening happens regardless of your big choice at the end of the game (trying to keep it vague for non spoilers). Which is fine with me, I went with the 'good' choice and felt it closed up the game wonderfully and I'm not interested in a continuation of the other ending like so many other people are.

I wonder how long this will be for 40$? Will it be almost as long as the main campaign? It seems like it would, and i wonder if it adds adventures and such to the main game with the level raise.

@Lady Intimidator: I'm quite sure you'll just be allowed to use the same character anyway. Sometimes software houses do that for sequels of games that have a multiple ending. That or yuou'll simply have a character with the same features. Careful about spoilers anyway :D That's a big one

Personally I can only be overjoyed to hear about the 5 new companions. So question for bioware: Will we finally have a female heavily armored warrior? That's sorely lacking in Origins. Maybe an orlaisian lady-knight?

Also, will there be multiple Orlaisian origins (like noble and commoner) or just one?

I have to admit i'm excited, expecially because it seems to be a direct sequel and not something completely detached from Origins. That was what had me worried.

I almost hope it can be done through download. Then I could by PSN cards here and there and when it comes out have enough to get it with out having to stress or something because money is tight

I know for sure that I want a developer to answer some serious questions, like:

1. If we import our old character, what about the old companions as well? My epilogue clearly stated that Zevran remained with me, and I want him, but many others ended up with Leliana and others with Alistair, etc.

2. What about the choices we made? Will they be imported too? Like: Is a certain someone king or have we got a queen? And the like.

Ok, now that I've managed to calm myself I do have a few questions.

1. Will Morrigan be involved in the expansion at all or is she out of the picture for now?

2. I'm assuming, according to what I read in the articles, if you sacraficed yourself at the end of the game you'll be making a new grey warden - Is this new character a continuation of your old character or somebody brand new?

3. Enchantment?

When they release the Official information on this to their fans, will Bioware confirm what the 'canon' ending to the OC is?

With regard a comment about a certain party member, I doubt they will be in this expansion for reasons I can't truly explain in this topic but considering the location this expansion is taking place, this kind of guarantees that they won't.

It would be neat if you could choose the "one old friend" who continues with you in the expansion, although I seriously doubt that Morrigan would be part of your party again, but will most likely pop up in this expansion or a future one.

Possible choose able companions would be:
Alistair - if you didn't make him king or he wasn't killed. (Find him drunk after betraying him would be neat)
Wynn - Unlikely, but I would like to see her pop up.
Lelianna - Highly possible
Zevren and Oghren - Very possible
Dog - Very likely since he will stay by your side unless something happens to him.
Shale - Possible, but more likely to show up maybe later as a dwarf if you took that route.
Sten - Possible, but unlikely since he returns home.

Edit:  The Gamestop article says "One old friend" will be in the game, but doesnt state if they will join the party.

The wording of the announcement says that the new companions will be there to be ADDED to your band of adventurers, so I'd say it's highly  likely they will all be available.

EDIT: Info added by Moderator to prevent people getting excited with false hopes:
This is a bullet point from the gamestop page I just added to the first post:
Encounter five all-new party members and an old favorite from Dragon Age: Origins

So it sounds like only ONE companion from Dragon Age: Origins will return for this expansion. Keep in mind this info is still Completely Unofficial and Completely Uncofirmed until Bioware posts it on their site :-)

Yeah! what Andrea said! My frist character a female noble warrior, married Alistair and became Queen. If I imported that Character, will I be Queen? And what about my most recent play through as a Male City Elf (warrior)? I romanced Morrigan, had one last night of passion with her (and then stated I was going after my lady love at the end of the game) But I also made Alistair marry the Queen. Will there be mention of that choice in Awakenings?

Will my choice of King of Orsermar[sp?] be there?

Will we see more of Sten and his people?

What about Leliana and Zev? who were also romantic choices

>D Will there be a statue of the "Hero" that defeated the blight regardless of what choices we made in the game? [I imagine that if you dont import it will be a full armored figure that looks sexless and faceless undoubtedly]

No, some of the other articles said that there will be 6 party members, 5 new and 1 returning.

Lets not jump to conclusions until we have absolute final confirmation from bioware about each item. Nothing worse that unmet expectations getting in the way of enjoying a game.
