[*]If you continue, you will most likely have the patry members you chose to keep around, that survived end-game plot points, and will have the chance to acquire new xpac party members.

No.. if you read the interview that Melo released on IGN he says that only 1 member of the old companions, (choosen by Bioware and not by you) will return as companion in Awakening. He said that the budget doesn't allow them to implement both old and new companions into the expansion so we can only wait to know who of them they decided to bring back in awakening. For other old companions there will be only "cameos". This is for sure !!

A few things i wanna see in Awakenings...

1. ranged executions

2. cooler looking light or cloth, medium armor, (why is massive armor the best looking?)

3. a tactics that will go into effect when your party is out of combat (ex. turning off stone aura)

4. a Morrigan outfit that doesn't make her look like she's from the 80's (not that I have anything wrong w/ the 80's)

5. more of the awesomeness of Origins!

Keep up the good work:O

Well, as it is confirmed ...

... And it's also confirmed that important decisions will carry over in a more important manner than just some short narrative summary, though what exactly that means is indeed questionable ...

... And it's not likely you have the party member you choose to have around, you will get the old one BioWare has chosen for you, that is also confirmed.

Hey, where can I read all of this "confirmed" business?

p.s. please don't say "in the last 100 pages of this thread" ...

Well, MaxQuartiroli already gave you a good start with that ign article. Otherwise, unfortunately, you'll have to look through this whole thread for the dev's post, and also some quotes people made where the dev's said something about Awakening on other boards.  You of course also have the option to simply trust us in this ;)

I just wanted to add that my romance is not unimportant too, actually, it was what i cared most in the game. I'd say none of the four romances is unimportant and will be dealt with in a way now or later when the DA story continues.
ME 2 that was released today :wizard: might be an example how BioWare treats the continuation of romances through cameos. If that works well, we might expect to see something similar in Awakening, or if your favorite option won't return there, in a later xpac or sequel.

Well...I could only romance Leliana because i played with femal character and Morrigan is not romancable with her... (Sorry but I am not able to romance men even if I played as a girl Image IPB) so I don't know how Morrigan's romance could be but I trust you when you say that it's as emocional as other romances.. and you would appreciate too much to see her again, exactly in the same way I would like to see Leliana or girls would like too see Alistair

This may be however a good thing.. I would say for now we can please this... and wait for future expansions..
I would say... All of us passed bad moments in true life.. So, at least in a fiction and in a fantasy world, let love live forever... Ok ok.. now I'm digressing.. I apologize for this Image IPB

Thanks, all!

I'll dig up that article.

I saw someone post a list of things they'd like to see in Awakenings. I'll throw a few stones across the pond and see if they skip ...
  • A "move there" feature for XBOX 360. (WTF?!)
  • Formation options: marching orders, marching formations, and then actual positioning tactics when in combat (flank, surround, hit and run, etc ...)
  • "friendly fire" Tactics Settings for AoE spells and items. Something like "avoid friendly fire" or "allow friendly fire" would be nice. That way our mages and bomb throwers can still use these abilities, without micromanagement, and without getting totally slaughtered by your own team!
  • A "deactivate" spell feature! especially for AoE like Blizzard, Inferno, etc ... Sometimes you only need it for a brief period, and then want it to be gone. If i summoned the damn thing, I should be able to make it go away, right?
  • An equipment Locker for the collectors out there B). I might use this dagger one day ... Just not today.
What's the collective think?

Of course I did not intend to downplay the importance of any other romance options that are available. Meaning only that having a 'lavish wedding' to the now King of Ferelden and becoming his Queen just seems like too large of a story line to simply have it 'ignored' in an expansion or sequel.  I believe if Bioware did NOT inteand for it to carry over, they would not have written it this way. One can only hope........

some cooler looking light/medium armor would be nice. two handed swords also should get some gfx love.

side note, in most cases you do NOT get gameplay changes in expansions. maybe a small tweak here or there, but nothing big. it is still the same game, after all. they are just expanding on it.

hey what if Morrigans the character returning, think about it, shes the only one who left and if you ignore what it says at the end of the game eg. orgren left to be a mecenary, all the other characters didnt leave and stayed with you technicaly,so perhaps its meant to be a suprise when you keep your entire party as they never left to begin with,

random question but anyone think that they could ever make a online expansion where the hundreds of DA players team up to defend key locations against hundreds of darkspawn?. that be pretty cool

Yeah, I know ... But, they can add it of their list of things to do. Seriously. Some of those functions are gimmies, right?

Agree with you on that, also more different ones, most of the cloth items you could buy/find where never as good as the ones the cloth companions came with.

No I hope IF they do bring her back (or anyone else for that matter) that they wont change them at all! Its always annoying when some companion or character returns in a new version / expansion of a game and you have to find out by their name its them. Besides I like her ragged clothes and the fact that she can have a hissy fit about maids asking her if she needs a change of clothes... ;)

What's the collective think?

Isn't there something like that already in the Wardens Keep DLC?

My personal (minor) feature wishlist for Awakening/DLC:
  • Invidivual Companion Hold/FreeMove setting, often you want your melee/tank to continue moving towards enemies but you want your ranged to stay at a certain point, individual hold settings would allow for this.

  • Allow helmets to be hidden (by preference on a per companion/player basis), often helmets provide nice stats but they might not look very nice or hide the way a character/companion looks this option would "fix" that.

  • Allow the ears of elves to be bend outward a little. It seems the ears of the NPC elves like Shianni seem to have their ears bend outwards a little which makes them more visible and get less overshadowed by the hairstyles.

  • One-Handed Swords / Axes (As in one-handed weapons that can be used in either main/off-hand).

  • Some more random replies from Romancing companions, for example kissing Morrigan in the party while Alistair is there always prompts the same dialogue.
It would also be nice if there where some more things you could do in a romance besides kissing and sleeping with them, things like a "spent time with", "Give the best part of your meat to", "Give Flowers", "Make Breakfast for" etc options or at the very least more conversation options even after you've had all their standard conversation. A relationship/romance is more than kissing and sleeping with one another. :)

  • A few more cinematics for minor stuff would  also be appreciated just to make you feel part of the story even more, for example Morrigans leaving after the final battle is just illustrated by her not being in the epilogue, it would be nice to see a short cinematic of her leaving and perhaps if you romanced her she could give you a short sad look over her shoulder when she's leaving.
Another example was being invited to stay over for dinner with Shianni who goes off to buy some bottles of wine if you agreed after which you cant find her again and you just have to leave the alienage, in essence leaving her with the wine she just bought especially for you when she already doesnt have much money.

  • I also found it a shame that not all lets call them sexual encounters have a small cinematic like sleeping with one of your companions do, and that the companion ones only played the first time you slept with them.

Finally my 2 cents about who I think the returning companion will be... Personally I hope and believe it will be Morrigan, the reason for this is that she is the only companion that doesn't have a true ending and looking at the way her part in the current story played out, it feels very much as if it was written with the expansion (or at the very least AN EXPANSION) in mind.
If you consider all other companions and especially the romancing ones every companion has a happy ending and gets more or less closure except Morrigan. She also appears to be the only character that is truly forced on you, even if you sent her away from the very first minute she re-appears before the final battle and is the only character you could never say goodbye to at the epilogue because she was already gone.

Of course this doesn't mean she HAS to be the companion. Even considering I am right about the fact that they wrote Morrigans part in the story with an expansion in mind they could also use these preparations in Awakening and make her return as a cameo instead of THE old favorite companion.

In any case I'm very much looking forward to the expansion and cant wait for more information to be released by Bioware...

I cannot image Bioware NOT allowing your storyline to continue in Awakening as a HFN (*Spoiler*) if you marry Alistair and become his Queen. That is  major storyline and not some minor romance option where two people run off into the sunset together. It is then senseless to continue with my current PC. Let's see, I load Awakening with my current PC and am now neither married to Alistair or queen? That would just be ridiculous. I suppose if he is in Awakening as NPC (and not a companion) or makes a cameo he would then just address me as "Warden"? That would be an utter let-down.

Well.. I apologize but Leliana's romance is NOT a minor romance !! There are tons of epic and high emotional dialogues with her..

"I came to Ferelden and the Chantry because I was being hunted. I walked where the Maker led me and he has rewarded me for my faith. I found you!"

"My life is here with you. You are the last thing I see when I go to sleep and the first thing I see in the morning as I open my eyes" I can't imagine my life without  this"

and many many others...

So tell me.. how you can think such a romance where someone says words like these may end without leaving you disappointed?

And the choice to leave your life, your mission as gray warden, just to travel the world only with her, with the promise that you'll stay togheter forever because this is the only desire of your life, is an high romantic final in my opionion.. at least romantic as the final where you became queen :)

I agree with this. I will be seriously disappointed if Leliana doesn't return. Besides, isn't the expansion supposed to be set in Orlais? (Can't remember if Orlais is a kingdom or a city.). It would be very odd to roam around Orlais without Leliana - especially if you have finished the game with her as your romance/LoveOfYouLife/travelling companion.

Nope, Awakenings is set in Amaranthine in the Northeast of Fereldan. A decidedly much smaller area than Origins  and about as far from Orlais as you can get and still be in Fereldan. You do however play a Warden from Orlais if your character is dead or no character is imported.

Leilana was captured in Orlais and escaped from there, so I would consider that she's not very welcome in Orlais anymore. Of course if you're a City Elf you also get told you're not welcome in the Denerim alienage anymore and you still manage to return without consequence and IF she would return it would of course make for a nice scene for Leilana companion quests.

Didnt Morrigan back off into the wilds where she came from with her child? There is no reason for her to leave, shes raising a child and that makes traveling and adventures pretty  impossible.
The ending also pretty much fits her style.

I too wish she would make a return, shes a vital part of Dragon Age -but IMO its very unlikely.

Wournos, I have already resigned myself too see her only through "cameo"... I suggest you to do the same thing... We have only two months to prepare ourselves for this loss, so it's better to begin now
A.N.A.N is right !!
I bet that they are keeping Orlais for a Sequel (something like DA 2 or similar) and they won't use a (probable) waste kingdom like it in an xpac. I believe we may see at least some of the old town we visited in DAO, like Redcliff or Denerim. Obviously these are only my speculations...For sure we only know that, as A.N.A.N. says, Amaranthine is far east of Ferelden, while Orlais is west

As has been pointed out, a new character comes from Orlais - but the game is set in the arling of Amaranthine which is in Ferelden. I could understand why folks could get confused, just making it clear. :)

Human Nobles come from Highever, which is on the north edge of the game map. East of that, where it starts to curve around south, is Amaranthine. If you've got the Wardens Keep DLC this is a bit east of that, up on the cost if it's the arling of Amaranthine.

It's all the same stomping ground.

Good Point! :)

She did leave to have and raise the child (or just left if you didn't take the ritual route). We never got any confirmation in the epilogue that the child was actually born and the child is special with a mix of warden blood and the soul of an old god (not to mention the quite some genes of one very stubborn witch of the wilds Image IPB), which they could exploit if they really wanted to bring her back in this expansion.

But yeah it does make it a little less likely. Perhaps she returns as a cameo, so the people who decided to look for her actually find her, then get shouted at by her for coming to look for her after which she gives you a romantic kiss and then tells you about the new darkspawn threat after which she sents you off to go solve the problem once more while she looks after the little one! SPOILER WARNING!

We more or less did, watch the epilogue again, rumors say that shes been seen traveling....ah cant remember where..however, she has been seen with a child.
Ah.... what a pitty,....but I am pretty sure she wont appear as the secret character, maybe as cameo at best, but everything else would make too little sense.

But you know.... rumors.....Thats what I've heard on the road anyhow, take it for what it is.

"with child" is a different phrase for pregnant, it does not mean that the child is born.
