Ok.. If you look carefully you may see he appears at 0:11 but at 0:15 he is no longer in party and there is another character ... So I think:
1) The trailer may be done as they were in development so maybe they had not finished the new companions yet, so they were using old or standard characters..
2) During his IGN interview Melo said that all the things concerning party and returning companion are top-secret.. Do you really think that if they wanted keep secret all these things they would give us a great spoiler like this ??
Yeah I was just wondering the same thing, why do you put the secret character in trailers (there is also a dwarf that looks like Oghren in the official Bioware trailer I think) if he's so secret. It could indeed be a stand-in or they put him in on purpose to throw everyone off... However since he has always been a likely candidate it wouldn't suprise me if it was him and he has no real connections to any player so it would make sense for him to return.

It was fairly obvious from the moment they announced only one returning companion. I don't know why people seem so surprised all of a sudden.

So what if Alistair died in my save? Should I send a letter to Bioware and complain that I didn't get the old companion they promised me? Because if it's Alistair, the people who let him die will not be treated equally. They will either buy less content than other customers or be forced to change their game(one that gave you the freedom to choose in the first place). The Woldan wrote...
As I said, we have also seen
Allistair in the awakening trailer, they just serve as ''gap fillers''.
The secret companion is still a secret!
Not to mention that they'll have to record a ridiculous amount of dialogue/cutscenes for Alistair. Hardened or no, king or no, romance or friend etc etc
Alistair most likely gives you the quest as NPC and sends you on your way. It could be easily replaced by Anora for just one cutscene where you get the quest.
Oghren is by FAR the easiest character to impement into Awakening. He has no additional romance dialogue and no chance of being dead. Remember that is just an expansion and the budget is limited so Oghren makes sense.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but personally I thought the trailer was terrific, really whetted my appetite for the game.

So, is anyone going to suggest that the dwarf in the trailer is Oghren's twin brother Oghran and the returning companion is *insert favorite character here*? No?
I think only that clip may be anything... I don't see the bar at the bottom of the screen... and the faces of characters on left side... That clip in my opinion was not representing a moment of the gameplay...

Because everybody knows that the user interface is extremely classy and is very appealing in a trailer that is trying to promote an expansion. While we're at it, they should definitely put in load screens every time the screen transitions.

If you think Oghren hasnt been explored enough take a look at Loghain, he joins you at the very end of the game if you play it that way. Well, besides the minor cutscenes.
Id like to take Loghain along for the ride too.

Are you talking to me?
Yes.. I also believe that return companion is Oghren, I give him 90 % of chances for many reasons.
But if I trust that clip I see:
The Players character
A Male warrior
A Male dwarf
A Male mage
So.. Let's me think... I haven't seen a rogue... and no women... does it mean that we will we have again a femal rogue? And another female mage? one more time ????
That clip may also not be a clip of you and your party. It may be a clip like Ostagar's Battle...where no one of your characters were involved... If this is clip represents a moment of the game like Duncan's end in DAO.. well then you are seeing NOTHING of your new story

By that criteria, the dog would actually be the easiest of the companions to implement. There's no companion in the game you can't have lost or opted never to pick up, but the dog has the advantage of no dialogue period and the least impact on the gameworld overall. Not to mention that he's generally more beloved than the dwarf anyway.

I still can't buy into the argument that just because so-and-so dies/leaves in your game that it nullifies them. They have said that how you play (end?) the game will affect the exspansion. So it may very well be someone who doesn't survive/stay in everyones game. Either way whatever character they choose, someone, somewhere will be unhappy.
It's been stated many times that there will be only one returning companion and it will be the same for everyone. Whatever affect importing a save may have, that will not be one of them. It would be silly of Bioware to choose a character that can be killed, when they have several that survive no matter what the player decides.

There was also
A Female Mage
with blonde hair in the forest (in the first Awakening Trailer).
Assuming she is a companion of course that means we know four of the six companions.
You would assume of the other two that at least one will be female and at least one will be a Rogue and at least one will be non-human.

I rather liked Ohgren anyway, though the drunkenness was kind of both funny and sad.
If indeed he is the mystery returnee, I'll be quite happy with that. In fact, I think it'd be great if, during the course of Awakenings, you play a part in helping him get back to being the valiant, somewhat more sober dwarf he once was.
I have absolutely every confidence that the expansion will be very fun and, at the risk of sounding like I'm back at The Pearl, I'm content to let Bioware "surprise me."
