"It costs 39.99 for all versions. A ridiculous price, but we will all pay it."
Contradition is what you just posted. It can't be a ridiculous pircve if people are willing to pay it. Prcing is pretty arbitraly and is basically about supply and demand. If someone feels $40 is too high - don't buy it, and wait til it drops. THAT'S how one shows a price is ridiculous not byu whining about it or being a punk and stealing it (not saying that's you).
It reminds mke of the peons who whine about the theatre pricing being 'too high' yet continue to go. And, I've been hearing that particualr whine for as long back as I can remember. L0L
If you do a search ..the price entails alot more than just supply and demand.
Programmers, artists and ESPECIALLY VOICE ACTORS...don't come cheap, they all need their regular pay..
People wanting cheaper might also expect lesser quality for that cheapness. I don't think thats in Bioware's plans do you?
If you can't afford it ...don't buy it...don't play it. Simple enough.

From everything I've read it is a true expansion. Requires the original game, can use your current character and it extends their story, or create a new one and begin their story. Not sure what else you were looking for.
The press release states that you can either "import" your old character or start a new one. It also mentions that only one old companion returns. If it was a true expansion then there was no need to import your old character and all old companions would be available.
In the good old days when expansions got love. These days an expansion is another word for quickcash in, Having Oghren as old returning npc is easiest, hes a simple character to write for. very simple. The drunken dwarf stereo type.
The import your old character *bit* is a sales gimmick, unless you really believe they are going to explain away 10 npcs in death cameos or codexes. For proof see BG series transition, Shar-Teel, Sky, Eldoth were never mentioned again in the sequel.
Slightly more ahead - NWN1 oc to Shadows lost everything, lets not go into NWN1 to NWN2 transitions which wasnt even made by bioware barely referencing the first game at all. Any reference in there was flawed.
*Fixing something that isnt broke*
Oh yeah, I dont recall any complaints about how bad the npc interaction was in Origins why the need for 5 new characters? sales gimmick number02. NEW NPCS!!!!!!
Did EA hand Bioware the rule book for gimmicks? seems so.
Please someone tell me when games companies realise the true meanings of Expansion, Sequel & Series. But its all okay theres still plenty of dumb players about that you can sell anything too, that will make up excuses why something cant be done.
After all, building 5 new npcs and hiring new voice overs for them is alot more work/money, than bring in old ones that are already made and just need additional dialogue/voicing added...

If enough people say it, maybe it will happen. Until I hear it is so, however, I am assuming that the dog is the returning companion, and as much as I love the dog, I'm kind of uninterested at that point. I'll be content to assume my PCs ride off into the sunset, unless I hear something jaw-droppingly awesome about the expansion.

Bioware is a company. Companies like to make money. The better the product, the more money they recieve. They probably know what the majority of the fans want. If they see "Hey...I R want -enter companion name here-" many times...I am more than sure they will consider it. It's good business.
Not to mention, I believe...though I am not sure if I am scared to believe...that if they made an Alistar plushie, they would gross more money than releasing one of the downloadable contents. Knowing this, I do not think they would eliminate him as a companion option. Same for Leliana and Zevhran. These guys are *part* of the appeal of this game.
Thing is, if they do "leave out" these guys as options, I personally believe that though they will make a ton of money in the initial sales, any subsequent content will not gross as much, for as you can see from reading a fraction of this thread, too many fans would lose interest.
Look what happened to the once immortal game chain Final Fantasy. I remember waiting on the edge of my seat near the release of a new one, buying it the day it came out and playing it through over and over. They made a drastic change, left out fans that were more attached to the original charms and do not have the player base they once had. They lost customers...a lot of customers...and money. There are still people that play it, yes, but the crowd would be much larger if they kept the die hards in mind.
Ack...de-railed and ranting! My apologies!
Thus said, unless we can call Bioware Blizzardware, I do not believe they will let us Alistar-Leliana-Zevhran fans down, but will also appeal to those that do want a change. Two birds with one stone, satisfying most customers.
Iunno...I'll start to freak out when they release more. If I dont like it, I wont buy it. No big deal.

*spoilers*
in the trailer it seemed as though Alistair was portrayed as the king... but what if, in your origins, you had him die or made him NOT king (etc.)
would he still automatically be portrayed as king no matter what??... and if he is, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of importing your character.....
*end spoiler*
again sorry if my questions had already been asked, i'm just far to tired to sift through and read 30 pages of posts :[

Nothing official to my knowledge has been released upon the answer to that question.
It is highly hypothesized, however, that that is simply one opening of many.

A true expansion would expand the game and not limit it. In a true expansion there is no need to import your old character, because it is an integral part of the old game. This feels like a standalone executable.TheMadCat wrote...
Doesn't make any sense to me but ok. So to you Mask of the Betrayer wasn't a true expansion because your old companions weren't there?

The game requires Origins to play, and you need to beat the game to access Awakening. So in that respect, it IS a true expansion. The problem probably lies in how it is being worded- they market it like a sequel (probably everyone still stuck on Mass Effect 2) rather than an expansion.

yeah, probably should have known it was too early to ask
but, i have to admit, i am hoping that the expansion will be able to honor some of the major decisions held in the original game! (that would most certainly make it a must buy for me~)
thanks for repling btw

I disagree. A 'true expansion' in my view relates to the base game but provides a new story arc. Mask of the Betrayer is a really good example of this, great expansion!AngryFrozenWater wrote...

Good thing for the Wachowski brothers that they didn't get sued for stealing the first Matrix movie plot from an anime. Thats why the other two were rushed and sucked I guess they didn't have time to plagiarize more content.
Very happy about the expansion though!

Look at the title of this thread. It is brought as an expansion. Like I said earlier, I can live with a standalone game, but I don't consider this an expansion. Thinking about it some more... What happens to the DLCs and mods?SwordsmanofShadow wrote...

I wasn't talking about the title of the thread, but rather all of the previews of it- including the EA press statement. The way they word it makes it sound like it's a sequel and not an expansion. Look at the facts:
To play this game, you MUST have Origins.
You MUST have beaten Origins, as the game takes place after the main storyline.
Think of it as a Shivering Isles for Dragon Age, only it continues the main story.

I was looking at the facts. The "sequel" is allowed to be executed after the main quest ends. That doesn't mean anything. Look at Shale... That character and its quest expands the game and becomes an integral part of it. The "expansion" on the other hand does not allow your old companions (except one) to be there. Assume Leliana is the one not returning in the game, then that wouldn't make sense for some players. In the epilogue and in the events leading to the final you would know partially how her life ends. Let's hope she doesn't get a cameo. It's hard to be more explicite, because it would involve spoliers.SwordsmanofShadow wrote...

As David Pointed out in another thread, one of the reasons our companions aren't there in the copacity we want is due to time/budget/manpower constraints. Besides, it isn't difficult to assume that your compainions may have interests outside of the Warden. Maybe they're away on assignment during Awakening and will be back for a different expansion pack.
The point of this Expansion pack seems to be a set up for future sequels (motivation of the Darkspawn and their ability to evolve).

now Architect. Why everything has to be arch or grand? Why not "Bob"?
:]
I am wondering if there will be face customization available for the imported character? Can we change looks of the imported pc, and what about the gear? Will we retain everything we had, or will my pc wake up in the dark wearing a ceremonial suit hearing "Alas poor Warden, I knew him well..." somewhere above?
I really hope my swords are where I left them, otherwise some heads will roll!
Maybe its too soon but will we be answered in this thread with some dev comments?

Then second question. Will all further DLC stuff take place after the expansion? Therefore, we will be losing our current companions until a sequel comes out? Wow, I would be so freaking sad. Please don't make me sad Bioware. Me needs my Leliana! She keeps my human noble sane... (yeah, the one who hears voices keeps him sane, I know I know, but it's true)!
