Why does this expansion feel like Bioware has gotten bored with the old characters? I mean that it feels like they want to abandon them and force the new characters down our throats so we're forced to like them...

I don't feel that way at all. I really doubt they'll disappoint. I mean you had plenty of time to unlock side quests in Ogirins & with gifts it was fairly easy to get all or most companions to 90+ toward liking you. I think through our journeys in Origins we got to know all of them very well. We can't really find out more...not much more at least.
I mean what would you really prefer, the same old dribble as before..slightly new convos but same old people with all the old facts about them or a bunch of new party members we can get to know better!!!!
I'm not saying the old members will not be missed but knowing Bioware & the awesome writings of David Gaider I honestly doubt any of us will be disappointed with our new companions. Maybe one or 2 but not every last one. I mean the only person I don't really like is Sten. lol.

I agree with you there I hate sten hes always mad at everyone and everything you do lol.

Lol weren't you just asking how to get him to like you?

Who me? About Sten? lol I can not stand him!! This(3rd) is my first play through I actually chose to save him. He isn't negative or positive just questioning everything I do every few minutes like an annoying child on a road trip!!! Haha. He's cool to listen to though while my friend plays, even Sten has funny lines.

I'm unsure if anyone from bioware has seen my earlier question, but I was about to do a pre-order of Dragon Age: Awakenings until I suddenly remembered my Dragon Age copy is on Steam.  Do you guys know when Steam will make a pre-order available to buy on Steam?  Thanks.

Silly! Wasn't that linked earlier? ;)

The RTO stuff is just blowing smoke IMO. I bet it will continued to be delayed, until Mar 16, and be included in the expansion.

lol. I'm confused what RTo's delay has to do with our posts???

No point in that people will be buying the expansion instead of RTO because origins is over atleast thats what they are saying.

My
guess is that the architect has something to do with your revival if
you made "the ultimate sacrifice" if you notice in the trailer you open
your eyes and the architect is standing over you

i don't think you will be revived. Instead you'll play with the Orlesian Grey Warden.
But if it turns out that they do revive the character i think i just wont load up any characters that died. It would just be such a horrible and forced excuse just so you can continue using the character. and it would ruin the ending... "you died to end the Blight, it was tragic and heroic, but the darkspawn threat didn't end entirely ... AND YOU DIDN'T EITHER! YAY!" ...

nah. while i do want the friendships to endure, it just makes sense that everyone moved on to their own lives and your new team just forms naturally out of need and with whomever is available

Elite Midget wrote...

Also... What happens with DLC like Warden's Keep? I heard that once you port to Awakening your character is done with Origins but that doesn't explain what happens to dlc?

thats what i've been asking.  It wouldn't be nice if after the release of the expansion some new DLC would appear that characters can't access from the expansion

It mentions RTO in the article on the last page, its just like Bioware to tease us with some DLC just too add that DLC to an expansion.

well i'm going to be hopfull to say it will not be Alistair, in origins he just got on my back because i was evil. So as soon as the chance came up to get rid of him i did. but saying that all the characters in origins were cool but only like 2 or 3 are important enough to be follow ups in a story line

Morrigan

Alistair

an maybe an other

it was said that you can meet old characters but they wil not be in your party. but this only relates to if you create a new char i think. You talk, hear the tales good bye. If you upload your char then the game will know what is what meaning who died and who became king etc.

I believe they did say it didnt matter if you lived or died at the end...but i could be mistaken
-and-
My guess is that the architect has something to do with your revival if you made "the ultimate sacrifice" if you notice in the trailer you open your eyes and the architect is standing over you

...But of coarse it's just a guess

Oh, I believe it matters whether or not you get to play the main character role as your character from DA Origins or as the new Orlesian Warden Commander.

That talking Darkspawn's armor better be available... It's really annoying how the Darkspawn armor looks far better than the ones you can get....

It's still such a pain to get armor working ingame via toolset.

Fernando Melo, quick question re your interview with IGN: You said " It is by far the biggest expansion that we'll be releasing"

Does this mean out of all the dragon age expansions? Or that we'll be releasing up to that point? I was hoping for a couple "Awakening" type titles. Any-who, looking forward to it!

Wasn't sure what to make of that line. Maybe this expansion is bigger then people are expecting and they have some smaller stuff lined up, maybe this is the only expansion they have planned. It is Bioware, they have a history of denying things despite irrefutable proof, keeping things tightly under wraps, staying quiet, and lying to their own mothers. Maybe not the last one but yeah, it's hard to understand exactly what they are really saying at times.

They better release RTO outside of the expansion because I already bought the points to buy RTO. Plus you can't buy the expansion with points (which isn't really an issue)... if this does happen, and I don't believe it will, I will definitely want some sort of refund or discount... that is if I can afford the expansion at the time it comes out...

An Orlesian Origin? Maybe they should go one step further, maybe a qunari origin story to make things a bit more interesting, if not in this expansion, then in DA:2.

You import your character and their choices. If your character sent him off to become a fat drunk, well obviously he wouldn't be king. Supposedly all of your choices that would have an impact in Awakening such as who is ruling, who slew the Archdemon, things of that nature will carry over and the universe will kind of build itself around it. I don't know, something along those lines. But your choices do get carried over and are reflected.

I imagine that there will be other expansions that do take place with Qunari, or in the Deep Roads. They don't want to break all their eggs in one shot. Its all about capitalism people. I am at least releived to hear that the bazillion choices we made in Origins were not just ignored. I am looking forward to seeing the impact it has in Awakening.

Good to know that romancing a character like Zevran or Leliana will result in you getting a cameo on why they are not going to help you fight the new threat or be with you on your new adventure.

=/....yippee.

I was hoping an expansion of the ending would...expand on the ending. The ending that you chose. So if you chose to frolick with Leliana or Zevran, then the ending would be about how Leliana or Zevran come with you to frolick.

Sure hope that playing the expansion pack as a new Orlesian commander will be entertaining and worth the $40, because I'm certainly not importing a character to find out they didn't get their happily ever after with the character of their choosing.

It would be unrealistic to expect this in a game.  There are numerous ways to end DA:O in terms not only of your character, but also the companions.  If Bioware were to develop specific ending scenarios for each one in the expansion, it would be a misallocation of developer time.  Why?  Because very few people would experience the majority of the content the developers worked tirelessly to create.  It's the same reason class specific quests have kind of died out in modern games.

I would expect dialog to refer to the companions and their specific plans after the end of DA:O, and that's about as far as it should go.

As for the Orelesian commander, it's apparently not as in depth as a normal origin story.

Ok, the big flaw in your logic? You assume that because you do not think the expansion is worth it, then that is the way it is. I'm sorry but to me forty dollars is a reasonable price to pay for 15 more hours of quality DA story. My opinion is no more or less valid than yours. If you do not think it is worth it, do not pay it. But saying that anyone who thinks it is worth it is some kind of fool is just downright idiotic.

"It costs 39.99 for all versions. A ridiculous price, but we will all pay it."

Contradition is what you just posted. It can't be a ridiculous pircve if people are willing to pay it. Prcing is pretty arbitraly and is basically about supply and demand. If someone feels $40 is too high - don't buy it, and wait til it drops. THAT'S how one shows a price is ridiculous not byu whining about it or being a punk and stealing it (not saying that's you).

It reminds mke of the peons who whine about the theatre pricing being 'too high' yet continue to go. And, I've been hearing that particualr whine for as long back as I can remember. L0L

Well you can pay $40 & allow developers to continue to treat us like idiots thanks to people like you. I will not how ever. I reserved it at the price of $29.99 paid in full plus tax, so if they ask for more money I'll miss out on it. I'll also encourage everyone else not to buy it. I hope it gets pirated 2 million times over, not saying I would contribute but Bioware deserves it. It's your choice to encourage the raise in price, nothing justifies it. If they raise it to $40 I think all PC games should be $60 like MW2 otherwise it's just unfair to console gamers. If they raise all PC games to $60 I will gladly pay the extra $10 for the expansion since all idiots buying it for that price will make the new stanard price for PC $60 for games $40 for expansions.
So once again People fail to stand together & we lose. They save a lot of money on expansions & make a lot more profit. Voice acting was most likely done a long time ago they do not have to build a game or a world with its own set of rules. ALl they have to do is build a short campaign with the dialogue & toolset they already have then test for bugs as long as possible. So I guess I can thank you along with many for most likely raising the price. Thanks fools!!!
I may not like all the angry children that play MW2 but at least their community stood together. PC sales were terrible in comparison plus 4 million copies pirated.
So yes fool I am "whining" slash speaking my mind about an injustice against gamers but people are typically idiotic mindless sheep who go with the flow instead of asking questions or standing together example you. So thank you for proving idiots that fall in line easily exist, I wasnt' sure til now1!!!

The fact that you think you know what you're talking about is what makes this post so interesting, I think. Just because you think that you shouldn't have to pay for downloadable content means that it should be cheaper, or even free? Really? Grow up. Please. You're only making yourself look bad

AH yes i'm making myself look bad b/c I didn't take the time to clean up my post. Idiots allow change, idiots like the people responding to me. Please if the two of you know so much about developing games list all the games you have developed? Explain to me all the projects you have worked on & let me know why you feel the need to pay $40 instead of $30. One again idiots out number people who think for themselves.
instead of questioning why they would list it at $30 then change it you show off your knowledge of the developers world. So please all who responded list all the games you helped work on so I can find your first & last name in the credits.
Once again you prove my point, most people are pathetic, mindless fools who fall in line. Thanks for proving there is no point in having faith in anyone but family.
I understand how hard it is to think for yourself though.

Wow, I'm honestly so amazed by your firm reprimanding that I might actually have to listen to you! Thank you for opening my eyes, and sharing your vast wealth of superior knowledge that you've no doubt earned by sulking quietly in the dark corners of your room, brooding on thoughts that no mortal has ever thought before! Waah waah, yadda yadda.

The point you fail to recognize, is that you're making just as many preconceptions as anyone else by pretending you know better. YOU decide how much that forty dollars is worth to you. If you don't think that the developers are cranking out content that you think you should pay for, the solution is, of course, quite simple. Don't pay for it. So quit whining about the fact that you DO in actuality, have to pay to play, and stop getting so angry about the fact that others don't agree with your concerns. A lot of things in this world aren't agreeable. Deal with it.Image IPB

I think people worried that Bioware is discarding previous relationships with Origins characters are a bit off base. This expansion is focused very narrowly on one aspect of the Dragon Age plot, and I am sure most major resolutions/dramatic endings (character deaths, marriage, etc) will probably be saved for a full game sequel. Morrigan, Leliana, Zevran, and the other plot lines that are yet to be wrapped up probably are stories of their own worth telling and if Bioware tried to wrap them all up at once it would be messy and a disaster.

I really hope that the romances are at least mentioned. My character is with Alistair,I(and many other fangirls) would hate to see our relationship just disapear. So my question is,will your romantic relationships be carry over to the expansion? Your lover doesnt have to be a recruitable party member. He or she could just be a NPC and have some diologue,or at least be mentioned somehow. I dont want my relationship with someone just to go away.
