Key phrases....."players can continue their adventures from Dragon Age, OR begin with a brand new party"

Just to add to the confusion.

In the Q&A, BioWare already said that you could play the Origins campaign or start on the Awakening campaign. You don't have to start on the first campaign. So you can either continue with your original PC or start with a new one. That's what they mean.

3. Morrigan seems likely because she was not only a pretty main character in the game. She has a reason to return because of the whole child thing. She is also in no way able to be killed off during the games story line. I also think she's an essential character although i could be wrong because i've never actually said n o to her joining or fought it in anyway. So i think given these reasons Morrigan will be returning.

Any thoughts?

**** HUGE Spoiler Warning, IF YOU'RE STILL PLAYING, STOP READING *****

First of all, i must admit i would love to have her back, more than anything. Secondly, your argument is pretty reasonable, and i am not sure what or better whom to expect as the returning companion, let me just give in some different thoughts.

Her ending indicates that her decision is final, so it is at least questionable she just changes her mind and returns to you. Especially if you didn't not liked her and turned her down at that moment.

2. assuming you took her offer, as the games plays several months after DAO, she should have some physical issues travelling in a medieval world and hunting and killing Darkspawn, even as a mage.

3. as her ending came as a big surprise, i rather expect her return to be an equal surprise, not as previously announced party member. She could possible take the role of the secret companion for the xpac.

Just my imo, as i said, not sure what or whom to expect. Oh, and before i forget, as far as i know, Oghren can also not be killed in DAO

So, let's imagine that it is Morrigan who returns.
You can start a new character, or you can transfer over.
If you transfer over, would it be that Morrigan remembers you, and you can carry on with the storyline, or would it be as if she didn't know you in the first place - as I'd imagine it would be with new character creation.

Please, post your thoughts.

It would be silly if she didnt remember you. I wouldnt even consider that an option. If you played as your original grey warden, of course she would.

IMO "an old favorite" should be Flemeth so she can teach me dragonform :)

Well in the trailer it clearly shows Oghren in your party.

So I assume he is the returning character.

True but why say a "old favorite"? He's definitely not everyones favorite, especially mine - i hate Oghren. The worse character followed by sten. I hope this "old favorite" varies per player based on your experience in Origins.

And stop saying its Morrigan, its definitely not going to be her..

i'd say just don't take that trailer too serious.
Right now, they're making a big secret out of the old companion, and they would be pretty foolish if they accidently reveal that companion in their first trailer. That is not to say that it can't be Oghren, on the contrary, but i would not count that much on the trailer as a source of information.
I' sure they watched it several times before they released it, and i'm equally sure they would have noticed if their trailer would have revealed their secret

The dog is very likely. Blame those dog name threads???

It seems the reasoning behind these choices is dialogue.. the expansion has limited budget. (See page 44)
Both Oghren & Dog have limited dialogue. That trailer does point to Oghren tho.

90% sure its Oghren since we have caps showing that its him in the Awakening video along side the other new party members, also just because he is not *your* personal favorite party member doesn't mean it rules him out as the returning character.

I personally wanted my hubby Alistair as the party member ;p but I'll settle for a cameo.

Personal hope as to the returning party member: Leliana

Personal belief about Morrigan: She's gone. All epilogues about her point to her leaving the country to the WEST, not EAST, where the Expansion is apparently taking place.

Personal belief about about who the actual returning party member is: Depends on choices made during the original game. Reactivity, as the interviews and such state. Different decisions, different outcomes, could very well influence who comes back.

I think Alistair will have more than a small cameo, I'm sure he wil have a major role as a npc in the expac. And who really likes oghren i personally disliked him from the first moment i heard his voice and i got rid of him as soon as the king was elected.

Also, been watching the trailer. Where is everyone seeing Oghren? And even if it's a red-headed dwarf, who says it's him? There are 5 NEW party members, remember? Maybe it's one of them.

There were a few screen shots of a dwarf with a weird moustache and red short hair Its pretty obvious its him. Otherwise if its not him then yeah were stuck with another stupid drunk dwarf.

OMFG this is going to be awesome already i cant wait, damn march 16th beeing a short while away :(

I really do hope Morrigan returns because through all my play throughs i always go after here and my charater always vows to find her and i get the epilouge with her beeing preggers with the demon, anti christ thing but her also regreting leaving me and all that. I think thats kinda cool so i would really love to see morrigan in the expansion and the reationship able to contuine, and the demon baby would be . . . intreasting to say the least but come on Bioware you know you love morrigan too :D

You are with Morrigan like I am with Alistair. I miss my hubby! hahaha. I understand making some of the cast leave but Morrigan and Alistair were the main 2 allies of the game that were there from the beginning and I do not want to lose either one of them. I think Morrigan will come back eventually. That child is going to have to tie in sometime or another.

It is just, I married Alistair and wanted to continue adventuring as King and Queen and stuff. He made this game so much more fun for me with his quirky remarks and sense of humor. Morrigan did as well with being the awesome **** she is. Haha.

I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I'm going to miss traveling with Alistair and morrigan it wont be the same without them. I hope we will still have dog other wise I'm going to be devastated.

I loved the dog but I stopped using him once I got Wynne in my party. I was originally going to make Morrigan a healer but when Wynne came along I just made Morrigan more as a DPS mage. I loved having a 4 legged companion but I would prefer to keep Alistair over the dog, honestly.

We also kind of hinted at it in the trailer -- you do run into the
actual ogre that killed the king and potentially killed your mentor as
well.

WTH?   You telling Duncan didn't kill that Ogre?!
WTH?? You telling me the  Ogre Potential killed Duncan after Duncan clearly brought him down?!

This doesn't make any sense, we saw what happened.

I'd like clarity on this ASAP.

A cameo will most likely be a death, or some lame excuse why she cant join your party. Would you want to see that?

Depends on how literal they meant when they used the word cameo. In my experiences it's used more often as a "safe" word in these interview situations then it's meant to be literal. Obviously it's possible they can bring her as well as the other two strong candidates for a quick appearance and and few lines, perhaps for an important and dramatic scene such as death. It's sort of a cheap way to go and in my experience Bioware/Gaider tend to avoid going the cheap and obvious route at all costs. At the same time it could be a great scene, very dramatic, very intimate, add a ton to the story and character and at the same time axe away a possible problem so to speak.

On the flip side of that though they could come back and play important roles as NPC's. Think along the lines of Eamon, Anora, Loghain, Howe, Duncan. Considering they are trying to keep a lot of things tightly underwraps it's not something they would come out and say flat out. By saying this character and that character are going be playing big roles as NPC's kind of spoils the surprise they seem intent on delivering and also reduces the mystery around the mysterious return companion. So I see it going either way, I'd be astonished if Leliana and Zev didn't make a return especially if you romanced them, we know Alistair is there if you set it up right. At the moment I see Melo using cameo as a safe word though, for the moment I'm leaning to them playing some sort of larger role then the word implies.

i'd say just don't take that trailer too serious.

To me the damning evidence comes from the epilogues. Initially I had that opinion as well, why the hell would Bioware have such a huge oversight for something they're trying to keep secret. But the appearance in the trailer coupled with the fact that all of his epilogues no matter what you do keep him alive, known, and in Fereldan, which makes him a very safe and easy pick considering he is going to be constant no matter what choices you import over. To me that evidence along with the trailer appearance pushes it over the edge. I say it's all but confirmed now.

I was thinking about that as well but I hope I do not regret my decision. In my game I married Alistair so we would both rule Ferelden and that can play one of two ways. Either he has to stay back in Ferelden to rule and you have to venture without him OR something happens and we both have to travel together to do what we need to do for the Gray Wardens.

Luckily I saved my game before I pronounced anyone king or queen so I can always go back and change that to whomever I wish...I just do not want to regret my decision by making Alistair and myself the rulers. I just could not trust Loghain's daughter but I wanted to stay with Alistair as well as make him ruler which is why I proposed we married so he wouldn't be left behind in Denerim. Maybe I am thinking too much into this? Either way....I want to keep him over all characters.

I hope the decisions on who stays with you depends on the decisions you made with your character and who you prefer to stay with you. I will be dissappointed if my favorite does not stay by my side just like most other people will be as well. I hear people wanting to keep Liliana, Morrigan and Allistair more than any other characters and I am sure there are TONS more out there wanting the same thing. So, in a way, they could possibly lose a fan base which, in turn, will cause them to lose their income which will not benefit them or the gamers who have come to love this game and their favorite characters in it. So hopefully we get to choose from the beginning. I  know I am not speaking for myself when I say that I will be HIGHLY dissappointed if I do not get the companion that I wish to keep but they cannot please everyone so I hope they chose to let us chose over making us deal with whomever they chose for us.

About Cameos.

What I get from past experiences from bioware games, those being BG series/Neverwinter..

BG1 party - Killed off in BG2 cameos.
BG2 party - Most died in epilogue form.
NWN1 ceased to exist by the first expansion.
NWN2 (Obsidian decided to forget NWN1 completely with there was a "war" reference)

Ive not played Mass Effect or Jade cannot comment.

I think he means that you come across the ogre's body, maybe? If the battle ended then why would that specific ogre still be there?
Duncan took him down and went with him. Everyone clearly saw that.
