We also kind of hinted at it in the trailer -- you do run into the
actual ogre that killed the king and potentially killed your mentor as
well.

WTH? You telling Duncan didn't kill that Ogre?!
WTH?? You telling me the Ogre Potential killed Duncan after Duncan clearly brought him down?!

This doesn't make any sense, we saw what happened.

I'd like clarity on this ASAP. Bioware?

I think he means that you come across the ogre's body, maybe? If the battle ended then why would that specific ogre still be there?
Duncan took him down and went with him. Everyone clearly saw that.

Problem is that the trailer clearly shows that Ogre alive and up with Duncans blades still planted in him. Only explanation I can think of is that "the Architect"/someone somehow revived him.

Have to agree with some people here, it's going to be Oghren, my least favorite character as well. The whole "keeping the character secret", and then showing the character in the trailer is a form of misdirection, and we're all (except 3% lol) going to be disappointed when he's the returning character. It will be interesting to see just how many of the choices they will actually factor into this game. I think unfortunately, only so many are going to factor in, and regardless of the things you did certain aspects are going to be programmed in, no matter what. Based on the trailer, it would hint that regardless of what you do, Alistair is king, but then in the interview if I remember correctly, they even sighted the "whoever you put on the throne" will matter in Awakening. So probably another form of misdirection. Or just blatant lies to prop up the product. Although I can't imagine that any company would EVER do that :-p

Whats the point of reviving a ogre with two swords in its chest?

Ever read the Ogre Codex entry :P it talks about how unless you stick ur sword through an Ogres head they tend to get back up after awhile which is why Grey Wardens tend to burn Ogre bodies first after a battle :P

Just because they show him in the trailer does not mean that he will be one of your companions in the expansion. They show Alistair as well in the trailer.

What I get from past experiences from bioware games, those being BG series/Neverwinter..

BG1 party - Killed off in BG2 cameos.
BG2 party - Most died in epilogue form.
NWN1 ceased to exist by the first expansion.
NWN2 (Obsidian decided to forget NWN1 completely with there was a "war" reference)

Ive not played Mass Effect or Jade cannot comment.

I don't understand the argument. It's been done before so it'll automatically be done this time? Jade Empire usually resulted in a very happy ending, NWN is a completely different situation then what we have here where the story of the character and their choices is center stage rather then the story of the world with the character playing along. The BG series is a decent comparison, but again you're assuming because it happened there it's going to happen here. Give Bioware/Gaider a little credit when it comes to imagination and storytelling.

It's not impossible, not even difficult when you consider what they're doing elsewhere, for a character like Leliana and Zev to play a part in the story from the side and still allow you to interact with them on a regular basis and even continue developing your relationship while simultaneously allowing you to interact with the new crew, build friendships and if it's possible and you choose build a romance there. Now I acklowedge the fact that they could very will die within 5 minutes of playing the game and I wouldn't be very surprised at that fact either. I'm just saying it/s 50/50 right now, the possibility exists either way tech wise, resource wise, and story wise.

Let's not forget KOTOR II. It had 3 returning members, then 2 cameo's. That's not too bad, except for the fact that I didn't care for the HK or T droids they put into it. Canderous was good to have back as Mandalore, but seriously..............where the HELL is Revan????

I should clarify that BIOWARE didn't do KOTOR II, just produced or something to that effect, but stil.....

I think the game will follow a "canon" ending.

I really don't see how they could do anything else short of making a dozen different beginnings based on your import. Which seems unlikely.

In the trailer Oghren seemed to be clearly a "party member" and not just some stand aside speaking character as Alistair appeared to be.

lol, yeah, if you find the secret holovid recording on T3 it has a cameo from Bastila where she programs the droid to come find someone if "anything happens" to Revan.  Which would signify that he died I suppose.

I highly doubt Oghren is going to be a campanion in the expansion. That could just be something going on and him fighting in the mass of people with you like near the end when you are fighting the Darkspawn in Denerim. You never know but it just wouldn't make sense for them to make Oghren the ONE companion you get to keep.

If anything, it should be one of the main supporting characters which were Morrigan and Alistair and clearly Morrigan does not want to be found so I doubt she will even come into play for a while if she ever does again.

But alistair is king he cannot possibly be the secret companion, unless you do not make him king I'm not sure what would happen with that.

Do you really think BIOWARE is going to have a dozen or more possible beginnings to this expansion pack?  How much time would it take to do that?  Hell if it's going to take into consideration all the possible endings when importing your character, you better expect to see this game some time in 2012 considering a "little DLC" can't even come out timely :-p

Some would say including Oghren in Awakening is cannon - okay you cannot kill him (so im led to believe) in Origins.

BUT you can *miss* him. Infact in my first game I got Shale at a certain point *no spoilers here* instead of Oghren. That whole scene bugs out with an invisible Oghren speaking lines.

Anything that differs to your save game will be Cannon infact.. choosen by the devs, its not the choice you made, the term cannon seems to apply.

I dont think this, infact I believe alot of people including me will be very disappointed come release.
Due to chopping the Warden up into lil pieces to fit this expansion which seems to defy the very term.. expansion.

Choices from the previous game impacting the expansion, yes to a degree. The ending on the other hand will most likely be Canon. It looks so far that the canon is that the PC did the dark ritual with Morrigan, and Alistair became King.

Well they have said that whoever you decide to become queen/king will impact the expac so i do not think everyone will have the same experience, there are likely other major aspects in the expac that depend on your actions. So when it comes to it yeah it seems like there wont be a canon ending.

Certainly there will be some canonized or more likely vaguely mentioned aspects. But if you read the post I quoted and commented on, he spoke of endings and Bioware has said plenty of times and are advertising to the fact that your choices are imported and effect the game. So are you guys claiming that Bioware is completely lying here and you know more of their expansion then they do or what? Just read the interview it states what it'll do very clearly.

And I reiterate, that you have to remember, he's trying to sell a product here.  Of course he's going to dramatize exactly how much of your choices from the original game will actually impact the expansion pack.  And then he will pull and Obi-Wan and be like "so what I told you was true.....from a certain point of view".

And will mother be here too?

I have a couple hundred hours playing Origins. The RTO dlc while the fast play through may be short and the DAO A is a paltrie 15 hours the replay value is as MC would have you believe Priceless. What I need and want which may include every DAO player out there is weekly DLC and monthly Expansions ... until we stop p(l)aying.

Because of what you saw with the trailer. Right, Mary Kirby made a response to a similar theory.

You mean a 1:38 trailer didn't spend its entirety showing all the
permutations of how the story could be continued? What the heck,
Bioware! Obviously, you didn't account for my ending, and the whole
story is ruined, and forever after I will be unable to enjoy spring
breezes, food will have lost all flavor, and there will no longer be
joy in the world! HOW COULD YOU?

I am AMAZED that people think they know how the expansion will work better then Bioware.
