It's not going to be Alistair because he might (SPOILER) be king, or drunk, or dead. And if he were the companion, they would have to take into account how his sidequest turned out, at least a little. Too many complexities.

Bringing companions back wouldn't be a problem if this game didn't rely on VA.
I say they should add old companions even if there is no VA, I don't mind. Reading the dialogue is good enough If it means I get to see returning party members. Plus the money they save not hiring the VA could go to improve other areas. I.E. Your own voice actor. LOL.
I DARE bioware to make a POLL on the Matter of VAs vs Returning companions.
Not really. The writing is usually done way before development ever gets into full gear. More then likely they had repeat actors (Alistair's as an example) record the dialouge for Awakening while they were recording the dialouge for Origins and may have done another project or two if needed. Cheaper and easier instead of bringing them back and forth, especially if they only have a few lines in the game.

Personally I just think it'd be a terrible waste if they didn't maker her and her story the center of a game/expansion and I'm not even a fan of Morrigan.
This man speaks wisely.
BioWare has even stated that people overrate Morrigan's whole role in the series. Her plot isn't really all that important. And you forget, not everybody chose to take the ritual.
Her plot isn't really all that important because it hasn't been made important, there just wasn't enough there. When she gave you her offer it was like getting hit by a bus then watching it speed away as you ask yourself WTF just happened, it came suddenly and was done before you blink an eye. But there is a huge stepping stone there that cannot be denied, tons of angles they can take in any direction they want. The offer and the option to pass, again it's been debated and there is plenty of leeway for them to work and make it happen, perhaps Awakening will add even more leeway. If they want it done it can get done without stepping over the players choice to refuse.
As for Bioware's comments on people overstating her importance. Ironically Bioware also has said Morrigan is the face of the franchise and that her story will no doubt continue on. I'm not expecting project after project to involve her which some people have suggested, I think that's where that comment has stemmed from, but a expansion meant to deal solely with her, Flemeth, the other thing isn't really "overstating" her importance if she is the face of the franchise and her story is meant to go on.

Economically speaking, the dog is the most likely choice. It's not terribly long-winded. And (SPOILER), despite the progressive nature of the game, there isn't a romance option for the canine yet.

Well I hope you're wrong b/c I want Loghain at my side!!!!!

I agree with you that it is not overstating her importance if they were to give Morrigan her own expansion or large DLC. As you said they once claimed her to be the face of the franchise which makes perfect sense taking into account it is a dark fantasy & she is a very dark person plus Felemmeth is an amazing character in game & in the books. I really hope Morrigan plays a large role in this expansion, the next or even DA2.

What I don't understand is all this economic talk....um didn't they just make a buttload of money off of this game? You're going to tell me that they don't have enough money in their budget to give their fans exactly what they want. If they are so concerned about capturing and maintaining the interest of their customers maybe they should reevaluate their marketing strategies and give the people what they want otherwise Dragon Age will not stand out as much as a game that is based off one's own personal decisions which affects not only the storyline but it allows each character to have his or her own unique story.
Firstly, this is a business issue, not an 'economics' issue, but the 'economics' of the situation is that the bulk of the 'buttload of money' that is made from this game goes into paying ongoing costs that keep the company afloat between the delivery of games. One has to remember that a software development company makes the majority of its money only when a new piece of software is developed and delivered to the market; but the company operates 24/7. Those people sitting there for a few years to develop the game aren't being paid with air.
As such, the budget allocated to expansions and DLC is significantly smaller, than say, for the next fully-fledged project, because the potential income to be generated by expansion material is never as high as for new software. As such, they cannot afford to allocate the same level of budget to expansions, it would never work from a business perspective.

Anyways hopefully they will give you an option to choose your companion from the original story line, you can do a separate quest to "recruit" the chosen one then start the new campaign. Wishful thinking on my part.

I kind of hope it is, just to have something come back & bite us or those of us that let him live. I did b/c he didn't drop anything good...plus I like money!!!!
Also I don't remember I might have to watch the trailer again but it looked like he was summoned so maybe it is a different Pride Demon.

Personally I like this delay, say if RTO is out by late January or early February it'll make waiting for the expansion even shorter! As well as 24 is starting back up so Monday nights are consumed and Splinter Cell Conviction is coming out in February so it won't seem like such a long wait to continue my journey.

I also can't wait for SC:C!!!! I'm only renting it to save some cash for now b/c I'm not sure if I want that or AVP. I can't wait to try spy vs spy in Conviction!!!!!

After personal soul searching on the subject, I think I can probably live with this (maybe) so long as the cameos from my VRBF is worthwhile and explains why we're not together instead of, oh, by the way I've got stuff to do, see ya! I understand that no one maybe wants to spend 24/7 together but I also am not sure I buy then allowing me to go off on a dangerous mission without them along.

Sadly, the more I think about it, the more I'm sure that the companion will be Oghren (the teaser video seems to be fairly strong proof but even besides that). Not that I didn't LIKE Oghren - I did like him, he was in my group along with Zevran and Dog. But any other character, especially any other romantic character (A/L/M/Z) would cause too much trouble - you can't please everyone so it's easier to really not try to please anyone. Picking any one of the four would cause the people who chose one of the other three to get frothy with rage (okay, well not everyone will get frothy, but I'd be frothy). Dog would be reasonable too. But just read all (57 now) pages - everyone wants THEIR romance to continue. I want Zevran, some other person wants Leliana. If neither of us get what we want, we're both unhappy but we still both buy the expansion. Imagine if I get what I want. Zevran is the companion and we Zevran lovers are thrilled. There are then 500,000 angry posts: We hate Zevran, why did you choose Zevran and not A/L/M?! They've already said, budgetwise, it's not feasible for us to choose who we bring (alas, make more people buy DA and perhaps it will be for the next expansion!)

Never Thought of it that way, i wonder what will come of my romance with Lilianna if she is not in it, or wel now that i think of it,l she could very well be IN it, everyone could be, just not in your party.

But for now I shall hope for the best, just a bit worried. Also I wanted to say dog would be the returning party member, but after watching the trailer, i'm extremely uncertain.

what i want to know is if this expansion wil also be available as DLC for the CONSOLES and not just a retail disc.
They announced it would be for digital retail so if Steam can get it I do not see why XBL couldn't as a game add-on but that is just my opinion nothing official yet so we can just wait & see!!
