*casts Dispel Hope*

While I'm sure it would be thrilling, having multiple companions that we would need to write up in their entirety only to allow you to have ONE of them would be a massive waste of resources. Considering that the budget for an expansion is already pretty small, it's not really feasible.

Sorry, just wearing my Expectations Management cap at the moment. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png

There is only one returning companion that you get the option to use in the expansion. We don't know who it is yet.

[Felene resist David Gaider's Dispel Hope]

Not working!

Unless Mr. Gaider or any Bioware dev makes statement "there will only be one possible returning companion in the expansion" I will hold on to my hope.B)

At first I think its the Dog. But besides from the Noble Origin, other Origins can choose to not have it join.

If its Oghren, what if player's import save has Oghren killed?

I am not saying every old companion can join, I am saying there is more than one old companion that can, that is not a lot.

$39.99 is worth something right?

I'm interested in that too. If you ask me, I think this might be an opportunity for Lohgain to redeem himself(or something of the sort).

@JK: A shame, but not a very surprising response. The usual "Yeah I can show you but I'm not going to for this reason and that." Bioware has exaggerated on things in the past, hell I can think of quite a few things with Dragon Age alone, but generally the exaggerations are small. The difference between what you are suggesting Awakening will do (Follow a canon ending and script) and what Bioware claims Awakening will do (Import and design certain events around the choices the character made in Origins) is huge and not simple exaggeration, more along the lines of a bold faced lie. Their defense is they are actually producing and developing the title, your defense in conspiracy. You've got to understand if I believe the truth is somewhere closer to their corner then yours.

Wait, so you can pick out of the 10 companions that you had in Origins?

No, Bioware picked one and wrote them into the expansion. One and only one, and Bioware have already picked the one.

He did say that. They have said that. I am sorry, but there is no hope.

One companion. Only one. Bioware have picked which one and written their dialogue / recorded their VO and included them in the expansion for use in your party.

Everyone has their own personal hopes and dreams. If the one Bioware picked isn't the one you wanted, that's unfortunate, but that's life.

Only one companion in Awakening has been seen in Origins. The rest are new characters we hope you'll enjoy bunches.

It is confirmed that there is only one companion from Origins that will be in Awakening. The other 5 companions will be new.

And as David Gaider said, they have NOT written up multiple companions and allowed you to pick which one. That would be a massive waste of time and money.

wasn't Loghain the in the trailer killing the archdemon or was I seeing things.

Well the companion won't be Morrigan or Alistair. Morrigan leaves regardless of choices made and it seems in the trailer Alistair is King. So leave a few others.

Don't think it is Sten, he goes back home. That leaves Orghen, Lelianna and Zevran. Kinda have to rule out Lelianna because well that would be too cliche.

Oghren is a great character, but I wish they had kept his obvious presence out of the trailer...

I'm thinking that the talking demon might be Morrigan's bastard child. If the archdemon was suppost to jump to another body, and she offered up the child as that body. Maybe it has the bonus of growing up super fast. Also, we don't really know how long after this expansion takes place do we?

I thought that was The Architect. Then again we did see two talking darkspawn one in silver mail and one in black. Maybe he has an evil twin brother?

I read on the Ign.com interview that there are new specializations. Can we have a hint as to what our Mages, Warrior's and Rogues will be able to do? And how many for each class will there be?

Just because only 1 of the originals is a companion doesn't mean that other former companions will not appear.

It could be like in Mass Effect 2 where former companions have a more limited role as non-recruitable npcs but they do appear in some manner. So it could still be that characters such as Morrigan, Sten, etc might have some limited part to play in the expansion.

At least Alistair will appear in one form or another, I wonder what will happen if his ending is different from the one shown in the trailers? Then again he says how much he misses the old days of hunting down darkspawn so maybe you end running around with the king after all...nah, probably not.

Hope to see some of the old crew in some fashion in the expansion.

Sten actually has to go through Amaranthine to go back to his home country, so upon further thinking, it could actually be Sten. And my last statement on the "conspiracy", I'm not saying BIOWARE is out right lying to us in that importing a character won't drastically change the game comparatively to creating a new Orlesian Warden, I'm simply stating that I don't believe their hyping of the game and how it's going to take into effect "so many choices" that were made in DA:O. If it does, I will be here to admit I'm wrong, I'm no where near so big as I can't admit when I'm wrong, and I'm not the sort to come here and gloat if I'm right, I hope I'm wrong honestly, because if this game is everything they're hyping it up to be, it will be probably the greatest expansion of all time. Because I mean seriously, how bad ass would it be to be King of Ferelden and running around Amaranthine wrecking havoc :-p

What I'd really love to see in an expansion or sequel is how things play out if you romanced Morrigan did the ritual and married Anora to become King while reassuring Morrigan it's just politics.

SO MANY delicious possibilities. PC King, Morrigan Queen and God child Prince. MUWAHAHAH!!

Alistair only becomes king if you make him king.

She clearly states that he will not be a demon when you talk to her about it before you say yes or no. She says that it will become a sort of god, so to speak and not become a darkspawn or whatever.

I think you could be right, it depends of end anyone choosed but...
Shale and wynne went together.
Alistair is king (normally)
Morrigan is busy with nappies
Sten returned home to kill humans
Lelianna went with the greywarden of DaO (in my case)

The only characters who normally havent ties are Oghren and Zevran. I bet for these ones.

****SPOILER WARNING****

Well, the problem with who the returning character might be is that actually many of your old companions have a chance to die. And if they died for some playthroughs, when your decisions carry over, they will either have to be magically resurrected or simply won't presen't be present, leaving that players with a party of five (wordplay :D) instead of a party of six.

Therefore, the former companions who can't die are the most likely choices. Some even have twice the chance to die twice, making them even more unlikely.
And of the characters who can't die, Oghren is by far  the most likely and easiest choice imo.

You might also add companions who death's are so rare that it can possibly be neglected: how many people killed dog worldwide? one, two? Can't be more, so he may be an option too.
