I had to wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows.  before I did that, i copied by characters folder.  Now that I have windows 7 running and DA reinstalled, I copied my characters folder back.  The game wants me to create a new character and doesn't see any of my older characters or saved games?

Any ideas?

Is there a way to recreate the profile.dat file if all your info is stored on the server? It looks like my reinstalled game doesn't know about my previous characters. It has all the achievments and the screenshots but if I try to restore a game and I select switch character the list is empty?

If you downloaded and installed any DL (like the Stone Prisoner) you need to save the whole Dragon Age folder in you Documents/Bioware directory. All the information and installed DLCs are in there. Just copying the character folder is probably not enough. I always make backups of my savegames on an USB stick. After I read some threads on the forum, I now back up the whole folder (ca. 800 MB with the Stone Prisoner installed). Otherwise the game will forget about the DLC codes you redeemed and then you won't be able to load these savegames since they were created with the installed DLC.



So copy over the whole Dragon Age folder from the documents directory.

Thanks but it's too late and I can load any. I gave up and started a new character. I will have to check but I believe Stone Prisoner did download with the rest of the content.
