After sneak-peaking the trailer, I guess the old favorite will be Alistair, but the trailer also seemed to show Oghren (red-headed dwarf, with similar hair-cut).

There's a trailer? Why am I not on top of this?!

I am disappointed, I was expecting "Dragon Age: The Sims Move In". That would be so epic!! You can build your own home in Redcliffe Village and control your characters through their everyday life, watch them go to the toilet and eat.. oh my god I cant hold back the excitement...

@ Joshd21, or maybe you can choose 1 of a few of the original companions to start the game with you. BTW the only character you cant get rid of before Landsmeet is Alistair. You can get rid of Morrigan. I don't understand the hype around this character, to me she was just another companion in your camp.

Because it's broken for like 95% of the world.

In the General forum, Chris assured that they will put it back on the site soon (on YouTube, they shut it down after five minutes or so). Of course, given the RtO debacle, "soon" may be next holiday season.

I'm thinking BioWare is just going to let you "load" a completed game to the new campaign, allowing whatever ending consequences you had to be transferred to the new game of the expansion. 'Cause, you know, the whole questioning thing we had in KOTOR 2 would take waaay too long with DA.

And I'm hoping for Sandal as a party member.

This would certainly be the most interesting. Very difficult, as the more the stories diverge, the bigger a game they have to create, but absolutely the most interesting. To me, the character relationships built over time, and the consequences for actions were the most interesting thing about the game, and I'd like to keep that, rather than start from a clean slate. And they can explore the characters more if they aren't starting from scratch.

I can see that they might want to limit the mumber of 'old' party characters, letting you choose, to allow for new characters and interactions, though.

One thing I'd like to see is some human frailty from the PC, and the option of giving credit to the party more often. It would be nice to have more options for PC characterization in that way. It's pretty weird the way you almost always have no option but to take personal credit for victories. You'd think that would irritate the companions, or at least give them a certain impression of the kind of person you are. In terms of showing weaknesses or flaws (other than the existing possibility of arrogance or hunger for power).... Would Alistair step up more if he thought you needed him to? How would the individual characters react if you expressed doubts or fears? Would they freak out because they depend on you? Would they disapprove of weakness? Would they surprise you? That would be interesting and allow you to play a warden that was as complex and human as the companions.

EDIT: Lol! I just read the beginning of this thread and sawy that there had been an actual announcement! ;) Heh. I thought this was just more speculation. They say right there that we'll be able to use existing characters, so I'm very pleased about that.

I'm thinking that I better do a play-through where I depend less on Morrigan, though. I don't see how she can still be around as a party member, although I fully expect her to play a large part in future stories and to interact with her.

with this expansion ... what of soldier's peak then?
soldier's peak aka wardens keep, was advertised as the new (and old) grey warden base of operations.
now with the new expansion it says that Vigil's Keep will be the base of operations.

Actually the monarch of choice does announce at the end that the arling of Amaranthine (Howe's lands) will be given to the Grey Wardens.  I guess it would be considered more suitable for a GW base rather than the more isolated (and cooold!) Soldier's Peak.

Though I always imagine my elven female GW, who arranged for Alistair and Anora to marry but kept herself as his bit on the side, would base herself out of Soldier's Peak as a northern Warden outpost.  Close enough to Denerim for canoodles, far away enough not to have to deal with Anora's dirty looks.  Image IPB

Sounds great. Skeptical about the 15 hours thing though. Really skeptical.

Hopefully the Morrigan issue can also be addressed. And sounds like they are pulling off the same "Some Geth evolved outside the collective" thing with the darkspawn. Meeeh. Hopefully it's written in an original way.

But you do bring up a good point about companions fates, chase away from certain actions, killed, ect. However there is one other like that, Oghren. No single action will make him leave you aside from kicking him out or very, very low approval. He was also left in a prime situation for a return in all of his epilouges. I wouldn't read to much into that popular thing, obviously they'd use that phrase rather then say, the #5 most popular party member, or the companion you kind of liked.

what was Ohgrens ending? i think i remember him deciding he'd hang around, but had no clear plans.

Davidheat1088 wrote...

So this is going to be a separate game from Dragon age?

Expansions basically continue the previous story. It is like a separate game, but shorter (around 15 hours, this one). the story takes place shortly after the original campaign and continues its story (and you can even use your old character if he/she hasn't died). Even though it is mostly seperate, you will require the original game, because it will share assets.

He goes off to try his luck with Felsi I think. So he is at least not far away.

Responding to the statment's made, allow me to first respond in the order that they were listed.

1.) I don't see how they could bring her back as a companion

Answer: There is much to Morrgian we do not know, she says very little and her mother says very little. I'm not suggesting from the very start Morrgian will be able to join your party. I am suggesting that somewhere in the quest line you do Stumble upon Morrgian and (Bioware's Mystery) how she responds to you.

I admit, I don't know how exactly they would break her back into the Party. Perhaps if you do not kill her mother, she seeks your aide. It would make a worthy and fullfilling quest, wouldn't it? If you did kill her mother. The Demon child has gone out of control.

I am at a disvantage. I don't have Bioware's script. However considering all Companions, and Bioware's talent for writing skill. I am willing to bet they will find a way.

2) Marbi War Hound Dog brought back

While it's true he is a cute little dog. In the return of Ostgar. You are given a second option to bring another dog into your party. Obviously if hes not that important you can make him flee your party from the start. And they offer you a second dog in the DLC

I doubt they would bring him back in the 3rd one.

3.)Oghren.

While it's true even if his approval rating is real low he will not really leave. Then you have to consider two things, one in the way he talks. He's used to speaking very direct and obviously has tough skin. Seeing his love, being killed with in Anvil of Void or even saving her.

His reaction is not what you expect of a bleeding heart. I expect that, because of his nature he's used to being around for the worst, and can take alot of verbal abuse....though, I really don't see him as coming back from a favorite.

It's true, there are no ways he dies directly in a story. No quest, that will make him turn against you. But then again, how interesting is he really? He's certaintly an okay party member. But somewhere in the netural zone as far as liked or favored.

While I'm trying not to draw too much attention on the favoirite lines in Bioware's saying. I feel I must, only because bioware used that very experession so I assume it means something. In terms of favorite and unfinished storyline and non dying there is

Morrgian,

While the Dog and Oghren, are in the nertual zone because neither of them die directly or leave you. I don't think it would be grand smashing exciting to have the Dog or Oghren back in your party. I myself found Orhren funny at times but not enough to take him as a compainon

His nature is nice but just not that exciting. So only other option...again is Morrgian, I am going on this based of

1) No way she dies, ever...no matter what you do right or wrong she says there.

2.) She appear's at your room before land's meet, if the ritual is not accepted without a word she leaves. If she stays only for final battle.

3.) She is clearly...very popular. I assume Bioware had plans with her more so, or they wouldn't put her face on loading screen before you click play on bioware game and because when they first talked of Dragon Age Orgins trailor. They showed a secne with Morrgian

And said she has a large portion to do with the game.

While thought is my own, agree or not. However me personally how I see it, as Morrgian to come back. Somehow in a storyline.

Actually, I rethought my position. This is bad news. Why release it so early? It's been only a few months since DA:O was released. They should wait for late 2010 and make an expansion that lasts longer than 15 hours (which is BS, totally not worth 40$). An expansion should at least be 20-25-30 hours, compared to the 40-50-60 hours of the original.

And, forgive my cynical nature, I am almost 100% sure that EA is behind this.

Well at least we see Bioware have copped out and given us a Canon ending. Wr all now know that unless you choose to take control of the grey wardens and become the grey warden commander - YOU ARE PLAYING WRONG!!!

BioWare’s next thread in
the Dragon Age: Origins tapestry, occurs following the
events of Dragon Age: Origins and puts players into the role of a
Grey Warden Commander entrusted with rebuilding the order of Grey
Wardens. In addition to rebuilding the ranks of the Grey Wardens, you
will be tasked with uncovering the mystery of how the darkspawn survive
after the slaying of the Archdemon.

I wonder what the rest of the canon ending is.

It doesn't mean you're playing wrong if you chose differently. It means your personal game is AU. So what? What I think is more interesting is that it means the Warden Commander didn't sacrifice him or herself, so either Alistair/Loghain suicide bombed the Archdemon or Morrigan is pregnant with its now cleansed Old God self. I want to find out which one they went with.

Anyway, this choice for game canon makes sense to me. Putting a Grey Warden on the throne seems like an invitation for other nobles to cry foul and start with the kingmaking. Wardens mucking about in politics hasn't turned out well in the past anyway (I'm looking at you, Miss Dryden). Either way, the Fereldan throne is not going to have an heir and there is going to be a lot of squabbling over the succession, and I think it's just as well that the Wardens not be in a position to be blamed for causing said squabbles.

Hey, I was an excellent wingwoman.  Felsi nearly jumped him right there in the Spoiled Princess.  It was suitably embarassing.  Little guy deserves some lovin' after having to kill his crazy, moss-licking wife.

I have to wonder, though, since there is a real point made if you rebuild the gray wardens, that Zevran either as a friend or lover stays with you and helps recruit and train new members, though he doesn't actually join. I'm hoping he stays. I'm not sure I'd want to play if he doesn't.

Some others said the same thing. It might have been on the Gamespot message board. That's why some people thought it was rumor because of it being so closely released to the actual game.

Alistair is definitely returning, although I don't if he's a party member. (Unless he's dead of course)

I must admit that I'm interested about how the game will respond to your PC being king or queen.

well, it is an addon, it just probably is started as a seperate campaign

btw. what about the DLC that will appear in the next few years? will a character that migrated to the expansion be incapable of playing them? will i have to play them with a character from back when the original campaign ended?

i do agree that this is awfully early for an expansion, but hey, they did have most of the things of Dragon Age finished up quite some time ago, which gave them time to make Shale, Warden's Keep and apparently also an expansion..
it would be nice though if it was a bit longer. 15 hours sounds so short compared to the 60 hours i played the original campaign

There could be many factors to why Dragon Age is releasing it early. But isn't that what we want? so who are we to complain when we finally get it? should we ask them to hold back the expansion to milk from more money. From a Business stand point,

I think it's a good move, you are striking while the iron is hot. While people's interest is still on Dragon Age. If they didn't release this for six months, think how boring it could be waiting. Some might move back on to another game. By doing this you are already knowing your game is going to sell big

And could be they need profit. Why wait so long to release an expansion, even if they want more money from Dragon Age Orgins. I think you will need Dragon Age Orgins to play the expansion, so they would have to buy it either way.

I am pleased they decided to do this, this is a few months after Mass Effect 2. They will have more then enough time to promote Mass Effect 2, as if they didn't already. Then they can promote the expansion. They are maybe aiming for two games of the year, best seller perhaps
