I'm confused. Did they give a canon ending? It's either you died and some noname becomes Grey Warden Commander, or you survived and became GWC?

Actually, I rethought my position. This is bad news. Why release it so early? It's been only a few months since DA:O was released. They should wait for late 2010 and make an expansion that lasts longer than 15 hours (which is BS, totally not worth 40$). An expansion should at least be 20-25-30 hours, compared to the 40-50-60 hours of the original.
And, forgive my cynical nature, I am almost 100% sure that EA is behind this.
Some others said the same thing. It might have been on the Gamespot message board. That's why some people thought it was rumor because of it being so closely released to the actual game.
Well remember the game itself was pretty much complete and ready to go last winter when it got delayed 9 months or so. So while I'm sure it was worked on and polished a bit I'm sure it allowed the team to start work on the expansion. So the timeline does seem reasonable to me, if it hit it's original target date instead of waiting for the ports to get finished up for a simatanious release it would be over a year between release and the expansion.
As for the game time, I don't know. The original rumor stated the main storyline took 15 hours, if that's the case you may be able to tack another 5-10 from various sidequests, random encounters, exploring, ect.

Alistair is definitely returning, although I don't if he's a party member. (Unless he's dead of course)
I must admit that I'm interested about how the game will respond to your PC being king or queen.
(Watch the trailer on gamespot)
If he is King, he is almost certainly not a party member.
Alistair in my playthrough is either a drunk or a corpse. I would HATE it if Bioware canonises any ending.
Plus, are they going to talk about the Morrigan issue if we chose the option? Cause 15 hours are not nearly enough to deal with the issue.
Of course, that's where EA comes in:
EA: "Hey, we have a great idea, why don't you make an expansion?"
Bioware: "Yea actually, we want to make this really big expansion that will deal with alot of issues, like rebuilding Ferelden, exploring the darkspawn, Morrigan's kid, the consequences of the player's choices".
EA: "Na, we have a better ideea. Make 2 small expansion packs, for the same price. Genius or what? Now go to work, you have 5 months"
Bioware: "But it's not the Bioware way"
EA: "Do it!"

True that. I can't imagine having anything this involved not already having been worked on in advance. Bioware has been planning this game for years. Anything that will promote me getting a new gaming rig is AOK in my book.

Is Allister. I do not know exactly how they can repharse him out of his deaths.
1) Death One, during the land's meet if you allow Logan to live.
2.) Death Two, during the battle against the Arch Demon
While we must consider there is always a BIG EVIL, in the game and many side quests. I am still not ruling out Morrgian coming back, perhaps not as a companion. However I am sure she plays some part in the dark spawn.
Remember it was her interest to have the baby with soul of old god. All storylines have suspense leading up to them, perhaps this new foe is the fruit of Morrgian's work.
I just don't imagine Bioware, dropping a storyline without giving more detail on it or closure. Not just because I enjoyed the storyline with Morrgian but because Bioware usually wraps up all storylines. With Morrgian, her storyline feels a bit out of place
I would be surprised if she was not encounterd in some way or something.

Also, Alistair is not the 'old favorite.'
It's Oghren. The most universally loved character in the entire game if you go by the message boards.

I dont know about everyone else but party npcs made this game for me, I continued playing to experience their stories. Fort drakon rescue was my favorite bit. The main pc/story was secondary. This sounds like "Mask of the betrayer mk2" something I didnt buy.
Quick cash-in, Bad news imo. Cant say im surprised either.

Join the club.
Plus the 15 hours. It makes me want to cry just thinking about it.
And I want to say I am surprised, but that would be lying. Dissapointed is the right word.

well they do have also a new warden origin.SinYang wrote...
It sounds like a mess... 1 out of 10 party members returning? why not just make it a new grey warden & be done with it?.
but if your character survives it would be highly unlikely that he/she wouldn't be involved in such a story.
it was also already explained how it is possible that they already have an expansion almost finished

So if you import your level 23 character, wouldn't you kick major ass? Or would you be starting over? I am confused about the characters too? I thought expansion pack means a new place to go in the current game environment.
well it might just be a new place to go, who knows (bioware does)

Not only that. You see he didn't keep Anora around either. Now if things are changed based on how we played the game love to know. What we see is Alistair around and King, No Anora so Loghain is dead. You are head of the Gray Wardens
And for all we know, Morrigan could have gotten Orlais to get involved in this. In some endings she goes to Orlais. How do we know the kid she created isn't the cause of all this? How do we know he/she/it isn't "The Architect"?
These are the kinds of threads I love!

You're assuming this is going to be the only expansion and the end of the Warden's story Josh. I agree Morrigan's story and character does need to go on, but I think it should be in an expansion/sequel centered around her and her story rather then being it second banana to something else.
Yes, precisely. They are planing to make two very short expansions, each costing 40$. Instead of making one big expansion for the same price.
I would have agreed with your point completely if this expansion was larger. But as it stands, it's not worth the 40$. And yet, in defiance of logic, I am still tempted to buy it.

I was assuming that this was the only expansion for it. I believe they kept it secert because they didn't want to misdirect attention of Mass Effect 2. Now I do feel better,
However yet to be explained, if storyline does go through their natural timeline. If that is Indeed Allister on the youtube. How exactly did he manage to come back to life after two seperate endings that could have resulted in his death.
I am not Anti Allister but from a logic stand point. He should be dead. It will be interesting to see how he comes to be, if they offer any reason at all. I suppose this is a bit like Fable 2 with the DLC. They offer a few DLC and maybe an expansion and in Fable 3 the story furthers itself besides the DLC content.
Ah well, here is hoping the new expansion is full of exciting new adventure's and moral choices.
