Mass Effect 3 wins GOTY by GameInformer

I'm no boohoo-er about Mass Effect 3: I still enjoyed the game greatly and gave it a 9 out of 10. It has the best combat of the 3, the best played-out consequences of the 3(though the variety is a bit disproportionate), the best set pieces of the 3, and some of the best level designs of the 3.
Having said that, it's still their opinion. It's one of countless journalistic publications, and shooting them down for their choice is a bit pointless. I disagree with them, but there's little to no reason in demonization.

So it's a personal choice by an individual.

The keywords there are EDITOR'S PICK 2012.
So it's a personal choice by an individual.
What they do is, each Editor makes their list of Games of the Year. They each list their choices 1-5. #1 being that editors GOTY. The game that gets the most 1st place votes is declared Game Informers GOTY. It'll show all the editors picks in the issue. ME3 was obviously selected GOTY by the majority of the Editors

I remember seeing the 10 out of 10 score by GameInformer, and was a taken aback slightly by that. Historically, they gave the first 2 games around a 9.75 out of 10. Ignoring the various opinions about the ending, I'm curious how a game can increase in score with roughly 1/3 of the dialogue options removed, among other major issues and gripes with the title.

What a well-reasoned post.

Not surprised.
Still not better than ACIII, because I said so.
AC3 was fun. For a while. Sneaking up on deers in the forest, stringing up guards in trees..
However, the voice acting was horrible, in my opinion. At least compared to ME3. That, was out of this world.

cure the genophage or not? King Wrex...or is it King Wreave? What was Mordin's fate? Destroy the Geth or side with the Quarians....or Peace? Who did you romance? What was your final choice that consequently gave the Galaxy an actual future for the first time ever?Bourne Endeavor wrote...
They keep advertising this game where your choices matter. When can I play it?
Just to name a few choices....
Granted, Bioware still told "their" story. But we the player decided the details in which it plays out.

You're citing the only choices that have some effect on the story but...
- Mordin, while good, gets a perfect stand in if he died in ME2.
- The Geth/Quarian conflict is undercut by one of the endings causing genocide to the Geth.
- Who you romanced is irrelevant and if it happens to be someone from ME2, well too bad.
- My final choice was being allowed to win by the Reapers.

That's just weird. I'm sure there were games that are better done. I mean, I can spot the flaws a mile away.
Or maybe it's just the nerd in me who is dissatisfied and the average gamer just goes in, shoots stuff, doesn't think to hard and enjoys that Special McAwesomesauce got to save the galaxy and became a legend.
Edit: So it's just GI's favorites? Ok, that was to be expected.

But any other 2012 game didn't even give me 20 hours of enjoyment this year. Dishonored? Nope, not really. Black Ops 2? Yeah right...
If I had to choose any game I played this year it'd be contest between Battlefield 3, Witcher 2 or StarCraft 2. Man that'd be tough.
