**** the whiners !! Congrats Bioware
Mass effect 3 was one of the best games I ever played!

Agree 100%.  It wasn't perfect, but as a gaming experience raised the bar siginificantly.  ME1 and ME2 were both excellent, but I prefer ME3 because, for me, the quality of the visuals (I don't just mean in terms of improved texture resolution, but the beauty/visual appeal of the various locations - Sur'kesh, Tuchanka, most of the N7 missions, Thessia, Rannoch, and a few others), combined with the intensity of the plot, made for a much more immersive, emotive and enjoyable experience.  Which is why I play computer games in the first place.

I have to agree. It has its faults just like any game. But damn it, the emotional impact is unmatched by any game I've played. And I've played a lot of games in the past 25 years....

I know its not one of the stand out parts of the game.....but I'm going on my 12th playthrough of ME3, and I swear I still get the shivers and tense up during the final farewells on Earth.

12th playthrough?!?  I thought I was doing well with half a dozen.   You're right about the emotional impact.  When you look at the various character love/hate threads here, and the thousands of responses that they generate, you realise what a good job Bioware did with the characters.  A character needs to be realistic to be disliked, and few of the characters generated indifference.

I find that hard to take seriously.

It's his/her opinion. What difference does it make to you?

None. I was just wondering how low that "bar" is.

Can't say that I see how ME3 "raised the bar siginificantly" either. Whether you liked the game or not it brought nothing new to the table more then a controversial ending. And even that has been done before.

The combat mechanics had some improvements over the previous installements in the series. But it's not like they outshine everything else in the industry.

Same with character development in terms of talents and equipment. It's may better then at least ME2, but really nothing revolutionary.

When it comes to storytelling as a RPG experience some my even say it got worse due to the increased amount of auto dialogue. But even if you for some reason enjoy auto dialogue it's not like it "raises the bar" and revolutionise storytelling in any shape or form.

ME3 may or may not have been a better game then previous Mass Effect games. But saying that it "raised the bar siginificantly as a gaming experience". Really?

I find it amusing, the ones who can't accept it won moaning in here. I am glad it won.

It might not have been my favorite game of the year but it is a good game and was worth seeing it win so I can swim in the rivers of tears from those who hoped it would not, thinking if it did not they could use that as ammo against Bioware in their bitter hatred of anything relating to ME3 and Bioware or EA.

To be fair, I can only think of 5-6 games I would rate higher this year.

Me3 Does NOTHING NEW and nothign better than other games.
Combat is already better in tons of other TPS. (Uncharted and Gears of wars feature a way more dynamic shooting gameplay than ME3.)
Me2 and Me1 did however something new at their time. The story and characters.

same here. On my 12th playthrough now(10 since the EC was released), and I see new scenes or hear new dialogue in every playthrough. Maybe the people that say theres no variety in this game, are those that spoiled it all for themselves on YouTube. Or maybe they just haven't played the game more than once or twice to experience all the different little things that change on every playthrough.

ME3 while a good and enjoyable game, does not deserve GotY.

Sorry but it doesn't guys. Just cos it was the "highest rated game" this year doesn't mean anything; all it shows is that journalists didn't have the time or inclination to really examine the game and its faults. Or they didn't bother. Or some of them were paid off.

EDIT:
I should say that many journalists said after the endings bruhahaha that they "missed" how poor the ending was because they didn't have time to complete the game prior to the reviews needing to be done and put out.
IMO, it is a poor excuse, but there it is.

There are several other games that deserve GotY more IMO.

You said every thing I was thinking quite eloquently. Mass Effect 3 just does nothing better than anything most gamers have seen already. Take pretty much anything Mass Effect 3 has and I can find other games that do it better.

Also I should point out that ME3 is NOT the highest rated game this year.

That particular accolade belongs to The Walking Dead series. So, ya know, ha!

GI is owned by a retailer. Their motivations are highly suspect. Until we have something for games akin to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, not game awarded "GotY" has really earned the title.

Wasn't expecting that, from my opinion, its a contender but not good enough to be Game of the Year.  Mass Effect titles have always pride themselves on their singleplayer and honestly Mass Effect 3 didn't do as good of a job as its prequels.

I've heard only a small amount of criticism concerning that game. I may check it out when I get some MS points.

well said. I've said something along these same lines before. I honestly think each and every squadmate is very well written. I just have my specific preferences. There's characters I can't stand, but thats just because they're different from who I surround myself with as a person.

I feel bad saying this but, I didn't really like Garrus until ME2. Idk.....I just found him slightly annoying in ME1(at times). Wrex was my dude though. Tough guy that would make anybody a little uneasy....then it turns out he's just busting my chops. Liara has been my favorite since the first time I rescued her on Therum. I've always looked at Tali as a little sister type dynamic between her and my Shep.(never romanced her, it'd just feel too weird.). And then there's Kaiden, in 20+ playthroughs of ME1, he is nothing more than a smoking crater to me. Lol

All great characters. All well written. All based on preference. It's a beautiful thing.

Congrats to EA/Bioware but in my opinion the game does not deserve it,even if i try to be objective about it.

considering you can only take 2 squadmates with you on each mission, and the variation in outcomes of certain missions....seeing "all there is" in 2 playthroughs, isn't even possible. Lol

Unless you watch YouTube

they're all full trilogy playthroughs. 8 of them are different....but 4 of them I played through ME3 with them twice.

I have over 20 ME1 Shepards. But I only played through ME2 8 times, so I only had 8 different Shepards to import into ME3. (ME2 was my least favorite, hence the low number of playthroughs. I still loved it. But it it was such a grind)
